    Excellent bait. Here in India we use a combo of wheat flour and a particular type of Indian cerial to make a dough which is flattened to a thick cake and cooked partially on a dry pan and then cut to suitable pieces for the hook. The cooking is to make the bait more stable so that it will last longer and will not get dislodged by the smaller fish.

    I use exactly the same tehnique to put bread on a hook..I mostly use hard part (not soft) of a bread and it can stay in water for such a long time..I put also some attractors or vanilla sugar on bait

    After you liquidise your bread groundbait, do you keep the groundbait in a sealed plastic bag also , or do you leave it open ?

  • @lolrobin

    He's just using a couple of shot/sinkers pinched on his line, they will sink to the bottom and stay lightly on the bottom with the current from the river, giving very little resistance when the fish bites!

    Matt is a great angler, but he is getting some of the finer points wrong here. imo flake is always better than crust for chub, and you can mould it quite hard around the hook shank, as long as the hook point is well exposed. You don't want a shot just above the hook, this just makes the bait look unnatural, the bread wafting in the current is a great attractor... and unlike in any other fishing situation... never, ever throw in loose feed, it just attracts smaller fish, and chub are hierarchic feeders, the largest fish feeding first. If you feed, you'll just catch the smaller shoal members. Just my opinion, but I do catch 50+ 5lb+ fish every winter and have had several chub over 8lb... don't take my word for it. Try both approaches and see which one works for you. :) Cheers Matt.

      recent match on our club water..upper severn. Winning weight of 45lb of chub (13 fish) floatfished maggot came after loose feeding maggot and hemp all the way through the match not a bite for first hour. . . In recent years a shortage of small fish to worry about attracting but dace and chublets back in abundance but he had none just big chub.. dont think theres always a one cap fits all.

    • @BoingBB
      @BoingBB 4 года назад

      @@robshaw3655 We don't actually know what else he caught though, do we? That chub was probably the only one big enough to show on TV. He was using a size 6 hook, so really small fish wouldn't have been caught.
