Downtown Birmingham is a fine sight for sore eyes. This is one of the few renovations to a downtown that revitalized the local streets as well as the interstates. I have always wanted to see the beginning miles of US 280, so it was good to go under it. Where is US 31? It sounds like Birmingham and Jackson, Mississippi, are great reservoirs of civil rights history. Jackson's History Museum and Civil Rights Museum are amazing places, and now I want to see Birmingham's.
Nice video. The intersection of 1st Ave N and 20th St N at 9:30 is known as the Heaviest Corner on Earth. This was because four very tall buildings were built there at nearly the same time in the early 20th Century. Sloss Furnaces is visible on the right side of the viaduct at 11:30.

Noticed the clown at 1:35 driving in the center turn lane using it as a passing lane. 🙄
I was wondering if anyone would notice that!
@@504RoadTrips I live here and see it often. Thanks for the video!
@@ja78-l4d not uncommon for any urban area. Total disregard for traffic laws.
Thanks for watching!
Nice drive through Birmingham AL
Nice video!

It seems that 31 runs along 280 and I completely missed it. There’s no actual junction with US-11.
Nice video , Jason.

That’s interesting. Is that close to the geographical center of the city? You know, to keep the whole city from tipping over? 🤔
@@504RoadTrips I think it’s slightly off-center. 😁
There's some crazy stories about the Sloss Furnaces. Some not for the faint of heart. It was a dangerous place to work, especially in the early days.
Great drive! Did you flim this before Birmingham was hit by a tornado few months ago?
I can’t find any news of a tornado hitting Birmingham since 2011.
@@504RoadTrips I meant to say Little Rock but you didn't drove there anyway. I had them mixed up. Oops.
@@RoadsOfAsiaBen yep. I have never been to Little Rock.

Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure why that happened.
Where was US 31? Didn't you cross it when you crossed US 280?
I guess. It’s completely unmarked on the maps there.
You are correct; US 31 is concurrent with US 280 through downtown. US 280 ends at the junction with I-20/59.
‘Rich history’ AKA high crime area.
