Me, a dane, am planning a massive road trip through all of the us mainland states (48). I will be departing around 2024 or 2025. This video has just fueled my excitement, and made me realise that, America truly is the most beautiful country on earth. There is just so much culture and beauty there. Wish me luck :)

For me a great but of the fun is the planning. Ok, so far, the plan and the reality tend to be different, but always a great joy. I’ve taken a few road trips in America and I can confirm it’s the great country on Earth. There’s simply no place like it, it’s diversity is astounding, it’s people welcoming, open and honest. (Don’t tell me, there’s places you wouldn’t want to visit, save your typing, I live in England and there’s plenty of places I won’t go). I’m a firm believer that you take it with you. Be uptight, closed minded, mean and jealous, well don’t be surprised if that’s what you find. My experience tells me the people of America are wonderful, and so I proceed from there. I love to see the lower 48 in one trip! What’s your plan? As a Brit, I can only visit for 90 days under the visa wavier program. 90 days isn’t long enough to see America. I’d need 3 times that at least. What a wonderful world it is when we plan such life affirming trips. I hope you do it. Make it happen.

Good Luck. We did Charleston, SC to LA (via Savannah, Macon, Little White House, Selma, Jackson, Shreveport, Mena, Lawton, Amarillo, Palo Duro Canyon, Rte 66, Tucumcari, Albuquerque, Espanola, Pagosa Springs, Cortez, 4 Corners, Monument Valley, Page & Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Grand Canyon (Sth rim), Kingman, Oatman (in Hills on Hwy 10), Rte 66 to Hollywood, Rodeo Drive), then up Hwy 101, PCH 1, & Big Sur to Monterey, Palo Alto to Napa, back to Yosemite NP, East to Las Vegas via Death Valley, up North again via Zion, Bryce, Salt Lake City, Tetons and Yellowstone, out East to Cody, Buffalo, then onto Mt Rushmore & Rapid City, ND. Then Badlands, Wounded Knee, Nth Platte, then fast track via Kansas, Nashville, Ashville and Home.
6 weeks and 9,200 miles roughly. We were not Camping.
Detailed this not to show off, but hopefully wet your appetite. We loved it so much, we are advanced Stages of the next crossing the US via the Great Lakes to Washington, Pacific Coast and back through middle from SanFran.
Most likely in 2022, or 23.
      Safe Driving & Bon Voyages.

US 395 through Owens Valley offers the towering, snow-clad Sierra Nevada Mts to the west and just as high, more rounded, and drier White Mts (in the rain shadow of the Sierra) to the east, just a few miles from base to base and about 20 miles from crest to crest. Both ranges are amazing, and the contrast phenomenal. This should be #1 on the list.

Pacific coast highway is breathtaking. Visiting Big Sur once was my childhood dream as a small Hungarian kid. Now I live nearby and drive down there once a month. You can't get bored of the view. @@steviejd5803 My recommendation is to take 101 South and take a detour by Monterey. There you can get on Highway 1. The first couple of miles don't offer much to see, just shopping malls and sand dunes. Once you pass Monterey the view is awesome all the way down. There's a Chevron gas station on the left before you leave Monterey. Also you need to have your ID with you in Monterey county in order to purchase liquor or smokes. There's also a gas station in Big Sur but I don't think it's open 24 hours a day. Big Sur restaurants are pretty good too, some are only open on weekends though. Limekiln state park in Lucia is a good spot to have a break or spend the night. They have camping spots and fire pits too, also there's a beach access there. You have to make a reservation a couple of weeks prior because it can get very busy late Summer. Always check the road conditions too. There may be some closures due to landslides, wildfires or bridge closures. Farther South near San Luis Obispo you can get back on 101. This detour may take up to 5 hours but it's well worth it. Enjoy your trip. Be safe.

The HWY 101 aka pacific HWY I drove that road more than 20 times😂and never stopped to camp or anything always just thought it was a normal road. I grew up in Washington and moved to California when I got older. I have family in California and in Washington and we would drive back and forth on this HWY, we took this HWY every time, so not only is it a scenic HWY but it also holds a lot of memories from my childhood. This HWY is always gonna remain #1 cause it brings you through the sunny coast of California the rugged coast of Oregon and the forested land of Washington. Never knew I grew up on such blessed land. The pacific coast is the place to be.

Many other great mentions in the comments but I’ll just add one - Lake Superior North Shore Drive (Hwy. 61) in Minnesota. It runs from Duluth, MN to the Canadian border. There's another scenic drive worth taking on the east coast. Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. The cool thing about Skyline Drive is the southern terminus of Skyline Drive is the northern terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Start at the north end of Skyline Drive in Front Royal, VA and make it a trip all the way down to the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway at Cherokee, NC (or do the whole trip going north ...)
If you do them both together your road trip is anchored by Shenandoah National Park in the north and Great Smokey Mountains National Park (the most visited national park in the U.S.) in the south. The combined distance is 574 miles.

Highway 12 from Kooskia, Idaho to Lolo, Montana, along the Clearwater and Lochsa Rivers. Highway 93 from the Canadian border to Lost Trail Pass in Montana. The edge was f Glacier Park, the Flathead Valley, Flathead Lake, the Mission Mountains, the Missoula Valley and the Bitterroot Valley.

Been on everyone of these roadtrips. All offered amazing sites. Just drove the going to the sun road this summer. Amazing. I would probably take the High Road to Taos off the list and give Scenic Byway 12 in Utah some props. It is the equal to all of the roads on this list. The US has some beautiful locations if you are willing to get in the car and go see them.

I have done many road trips throughout my life, got hooked at a very young age. I have driven each of these roads. They are all beautiful in their own unique way. Going To The Sun Road will always be my favorite, High Road To Taos would not make my top 10, Trail Ridge Road or Cascade Highway would.

I keep seeing "you forgot...highway" comments, as expected. This vast country is so diverse and beautiful, there is no way to have a 'top-ten' most beautiful video. A top 100 wouldn't even be fair! Just here in Oregon, I could easily name 10 awe-inspiring drives at the top of my head. One being the scenic Columbia River Gorge Hwy. I look forward to my departure/move to North Carolina, nice and easy in a big motorhome. I know much of the trip is plain compared to these, but it's gonna be awesome especially the end result.

@@steviejd5803 Oh, thanks! I've actually been able to pay cash for some land with house in Kentucky, instead. Got here end of October. Kentucky is a hidden and underappreciated gem for people on a tight budget! I'd no idea it is this green and lovely. Similar to its neighbor, West Virginia, but with less extreme poverty. Very rural and country-like (privacy and freedom), but within an hour or few of tons of good sized cities (Louisville, Lexington, Nashville, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Columbus, St. Louis, Chicago, etc.) and tons of small to medium towns closer. Bowling Green is where my favorite car is built 😉.

@@steviejd5803 Thanks again! Awesome to hear you're from England! Honestly, there's too much to see in many of the other 50 states to make a special trip to Kentucky. It's a peaceful foresty and pasture-filled state (probably more like rural parts of UK than any other state), but not too much excitement. We do have the largest cave in the world (Mammoth Cave state park), and the world famous Kentucky Horse Derby, and the proud American Corvette sports-car built here- but otherwise it's just easy going, mildly boring, and comparably inexpensive. Exactly what I wanted, and 2200 miles from where I came!

@@jeladsnikpoh1289 perfect. Well done you for making it happen. I’m on my journey too, paying off this house, than more travelling. I’m tempted to sell up, big profit, downsizing and getting out in this world. Ps I love the Corvette too. Back in 2019 I had great fun in a Mustang GT and later the Dodge Challenger, never had the pleasure of driving a Corvette. Fingers crossed.
