Why not make a video about Kawhi Leonard breaking the NBA? He's an NBA champion, finals MVP, 2X defensive POTY, 2X All Defensive First Team, 2016 All Star, has a 7'3 wingspan with an 11'5 hand length, and he's only 25!

    • @carmeloanthony410
      @carmeloanthony410 7 лет назад +8

luis torres he's a champion becauee his team is stacked, and he's a finals mvp because he was the 4th option on the floor, just like how iggy got it... they played good D on LBJ and that gets them finals mvp. Kawhi is a decent playoff player. Come post season he is just not a crazy reliable or consistent scorer like he is in the regular season. He's actually a pretty shaky offensive player come playoffs time.

I agree with most of that, but this year Kawhi has stepped his game up in the playoffs. He's a clear star on their team now loaded with old bums that fall down walking, and his game only dipped in OT against the Grizzlies in Game 4 I think.

    • @jamesmoore6558
      @jamesmoore6558 6 лет назад +2

luis torres ...to be honest I think he's reached his peak, you see Giannis and Davis consistently improving and getting better at something, but Kawhi has been playing at the exact same level for the past few years, exceptional player, but he's not improving any further.

In regards to Derrick Roses MVP in 2011
"Derrick's probably the MVP of this league. I think he has all the tools to be one of the best that played this game...I think so far, in my book, he would be the MVP."
    - Jason Kidd
"He has stepped up and is now one of the best players in the league. I think he is worthy of MVP this year.
    - Steve Nash
"Derrick Rose has taken that team to another level. He's definitely the MVP, to me, the way he's been playing... putting pressure on teams and stepping it up, leading his team on the offensive end. He has been spectacular this year."
    - Tyson Chandler
"You look at what he's done for his team, it's tough to argue D Rose isn't the MVP."
    - Kevin Love
    "MVP. He's my MVP."
    - Z-Bo post-game on Rose after the PG scorched Memphis
"I think Derrick has become the best point guard in the NBA, and I think right now he has to be the front-runner for MVP. Derrick Rose has been a tremendous leader. He's missed his second and third best players the majority of the season, and they have the best record in the Eastern Conference. That's pretty remarkable."
    - Charles Barkley
"I’m not even being politically correct, normally guys say I’m giving it to LeBron, but honestly I’ll give it to Rose. If he stays on this pace that he’s on right now, he’s got my vote if I was part of the committee."
    - Juwan Howard
"Derrick has had a phenomenal season. Just looking at what he's done with the team and their record, how improved they are as a team and how much improved he is as a player. I think I would give it to Derrick if I were a voter. He’s playing well, like he’s the best point guard in the league and the best player in the league. He’s the most valuable player if you really think about it. If you take him out of the lineup, there is no telling what you get."
    - Chris Bosh
"I think it's Derrick Rose, definitely. He's the leader. What he's done for that team, with all the injuries they have and for them being first in the Eastern Conference - they're playing some really good basketball."
    - Lebron James himself when asked by ESPN's Mike Wallace to weigh in on the MVP race.

      Stephen Curry 's 2014-2015 stats:
      23.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 7.7 apg, 2.0 spg and 0.2 bpg
      James Harden's 2014-2015 stats:
      27.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 7.0 apg, 1.9 spg and 0.7 bpg
James Harden has beaten Stephen Curry in 3 out of the 5 major statistical categories.
I forgot to mention that James Harden had to carry the Rockets with Dwight Howard missing half the season and Patrick Beverley missing 26 games for the reminder of the season. Despite that Harden carried the Rockets all the way to the 2nd seed with a 56-26 record and led them all the way to the Western Conference Finals with the 2nd most injuried team in the league. SO HOW THE FUCK DIDN'T HE WIN MVP?!

It is called the Most VALUABLE Player, not the best player. You can't tell how valuable a player is by only looking at his stats. That's why Bill Russel won 11 titles. His style of playing made him so valuable for his team.

How about 2002-2003 T-Mac? McGrady: 32.1 ppg, 6.5 rb, 5.5 ast vs Tim Duncan: 23.3 ppg, 12.9 rpg, and 3.9 ast.
    Advanced Stats
    T-Mac: PER 30.3 WS 16.1
    Duncan: PER 26.9 WS 16.5
On the Magic team: 33 year old Shawn Kemp (who started 55 games), Grant Hill who managed to appear in only 29 games, Pat Garrity (53 Starts), Jacque Vaughn (48 Starts) and arguably the 2nd best player on that entire team since Grant Hill was always injured was Mike Miller (39 Starts)
Maybe not the biggest snub of all time, could see an argument for Duncan still but still, McGrady had the 15th high PER rating OF ALL TIME that season. But I am a pretty big T-Mac fan so I'm probably just biased.

Thank goodness for this, Mike! I've been a NBA-ABA-NBL rabid fan since the 1960 season (because I had seen Wilt LIVE with the Harlem Globetrotters the previous year and followed him into the NBA). That 1962 MVP vote was (Greatest Of All Time) GOAT-atrocious. Wilt has already won the MVP two years earlier as a rookie; and his '62 campaign was just other-worldly great. Over that two year span, no way did Bill Russell improve much, much less as astronomically as did Wilt. That vote was sheer Celtic-biased media trumping truth.
Same with Cowens over Kareem. WTF! Same pro-Boston media bias revising-trashing real history.
Btw, I agree with all 10 of your stands here, EXCELLENT work.

That IS, by far, the most disgusting MVP-voting result ever. The "Big O's" triple-double was no "ordinary" triple double either - it was a 30 ppg triple double! Meanwhile Wilt had improved significantly over his 1960 rookie season MVP campaign. No way was Russell even in their "league" during the 62 season. The media-voting was dominated by a general East Coast, and particularly, pro-Boston bias during that entire period.

They only reason he didn't win it was because of the media constantly criticizing him for leaving Cleveland and voters got fatigued for picking him- he had won the last two MVPS in 09' and 10'. Derrick Rose only won because of his story: the hometown new kid from Chicago winning his city their first MVP since MJ.
EDIT: Derrick Rose also had a 62-20 record in the 1st seed but lost in the Conference Finals to none other than Lebron James. (4-1)

That was not a weak supporting cast. The Bulls had solid team with COACH OF THE YEAR and KYLE KORVER who led the league in 3 pointers that season. They led the league in highest defensive rating.
Bulls had 4 players averaging 10+ PPG
Heat had 3 players averaging 10+ PPG
Lebron has more points, win shares, higher FG%, and PER.
If you're gonna say that Derrick Rose had more wins, than I guess Steve Nash did deserve those MVPS against Kobe and Shaq.

  • @GMALEON
    @GMALEON 7 лет назад +157

Mike, you will excuse me but, I feel like I've got to make certain points here for the sake of accurate NBA Basketball history.
    1. 2008: Chris Paul put up great numbers, and his team won just one game less that the Lakers. Granted. However, this was the year the Lakers went back to the Championship contender list, while the Hornets didn't. Kobe played slightly better. I agree that it was a tough call, but I don't think it was robbed from Chris Paul. It was simply very close. Btw, the Katrina issue has nothing to do with the NBA MVP award, the game of basketball, or anything regarding the NBA. It's more of a social, environmental and economic matter than anything else. CP didn't get robbed!
    2. 2006: Kobe did put great numbers (the greatest in his career), after all he was at the apex of his career. But that is also due to the fact that his team sucked, BADLY! Yes they made the playoffs because of him. But, Micheal Jordan's bulls made the playoffs for the first time in years in his rookie season, the season after that, and his third, all while being a very bad team as well. On an interesting note, while Kobe averaged 35.4 ppg, 1.8 spg in 2006, and got the first round, in 1987 Jordan averaged 37.1 ppg, 2.9 spg, and and got to the first round as well, while MJ didn't win the MVP either. He would go on to win it the following yr for the first time. The 1987 Bulls got eliminated quickly as well. So same situation. It's not only about the numbers, but also about winning. Kobe didn't get robbed!
    3. 2005: The Phoenix Suns went from a buffonish 29-53 win loss record in 2004, to a resounding 62-20 best league record in 2005. Granted, the Heat improved their record as well (but not as notably as the Suns), as well as Shaq also improved his numbers, but the overall improvement the Suns underwent by being led by Steve Nash that yr isn't questionable. Shaq didn't get robbed.
    4. 1997: This one really infuriated me. I'm sorry, but there are way too many inaccuracies here. Before continuing, I will point point out the fact that I'm an avid Jordan fan. That said, let's begin. Jordan's numbers started to go down this year. He was just passed his prime. This was the year he stopped averaging over 30 ppg, after a decade of doing so. First year ever he averaged less than 2 spg! Lowest assist pg average at that point, second lowest field goal percentage average in his career to that point. And to top it all, the Bulls failed to win 70 games, which would've made them the only team to do so more than once, and consecutively. So worst record than the year before. All this while the Utah Jazz's win record was improved, and one of the best they've ever had, while being led by Karl Malone who increased most of his numbers during the season, at age 34 (same age as Jordan). Btw, Jordan didn't have 5 MVPs by this year but 4. He obviously didn't get robbed. And the Jazz did give the Bulls a run for their money, although, I'm content the Bulls did win in the end. There is always PR and propaganda fired from both ends of the spectrum, and the stories did get written and published, but this didn't have a meaningful influence in the outcome of the voting. Facts are facts. Karl did better for his team and for himself that year. Therefore, the "voting fatigue" statement isn't accurate. Don't get me wrong, Jordan was still a killer in 1997, just not that much of a killer as he was in 1996, and as I said, he and the Bulls didn't improve while actually doing worse, all the while Karl and the Jazz certainly did.
    4. 1993: Even though Sir Charles wasn't the best player, this year he proved the best leader of any team, league wide. The Phoenix Suns not only improved their record greatly from the previous yr, but they would go on to frequently beating teams known as superior to them. They did end up with the best win record in the NBA, and Charles Barkley had one of his best years while Improving his numbers somewhat. I agree that Jordan had a great yr, but the Bulls didn't. The Bulls lost 11 more games than the previous yr, while being the defending champion; and the Houston Rockets, while having the Dream put up great numbers that yr, simply achieved to win as many games as the Bulls. Again, I am a Jordan fan, but MJ didn't lead his team during the regular season like Charles led the Suns. Also, this was one of the most controversial years for MJ and the Bulls, as you've stated in previous vids. This has been said to have taken somewhat of a toll on the Bulls team chemistry during that yr. Charles didn't get robbed.
    5. 1990: Totally agree! Michael Jordan should've been the 1990 NBA MVP. The Bulls improved their record, and went on to give the Pistons a run for their money, provoking a game 7 in the 1990 eastern conference finals. However, no voter fatigue, because MJ wasn't MVP the previous yr, and he had only won the award once by 1990 anyways. Michael was still proving himself as a winner in the NBA, as he still hadn't even won his 1st championship. Mike got robbed!
    6. 1978: Completely agree. Walton was good, but missed too many games. His team knew how to do without him. Him winning the MVP this yr was ludicrous! Gervin got robbed!
    7. 1973: Granted! In fact, Cowens was as average a player, as he turned out to be as a coach! Kareem got Robbed. Likely due to voter fatigue as you say! In this case it was more of a "pick the next guy" type of mentality.
    8. 1970: The problem here is that the Lakers win record was worst than in the previous yr by about 7 losses. Even though Jerry West was great, his team wasn't. However, I'm not sure I'd give the award to Reed anyways. This one is very controversial. His team was great, while he was good, and West was great, while his team was somewhat good. Close call. Not sure it is a Robbery, not sure it isn't! PR may have played a role, but the Lakers record might have just made the story a believable one!
    9. 1968: Granted. Reed OBVIOUSLY got robbed!
    10. 1962: Again, Wilt's team lost about 11 more games than Russel's. However, I would agree it is a close call. Sort of like with West and Willis Reed. Maybe even closer. The thing is, the MVP doesn't necessarily go to the player who scores incredible amounts of points, or simply puts incredible numbers. His team play also counts a lot, and the team record has a huge influence in evaluating this in a given player. Still, I will repeat that in this case it is a close call, and could go either way. It would be very hard for me to give it to the leading scorer, or the one who led the other candidate in points avg by 30, if his team didn't do at least somewhat as good or close. That's why there's the award of scoring champion. Again, close call. Very hard to give it to Wilt in my view, but I will give you this: definitely not impossible!
As a final note, I will re-emphasize that if a player wins the MVP award, it doesn't necessarily mean that he is the one with the best numbers. Individual as well as team improvement from previous years, is one of the most important factors. In the only case in which I will say the MVP evaluation and voting of a player was somewhat non traditional while still being accurate, was in 1998 when Jordan won his 5th. The Bulls started 7 and 8 for the first month as Scottie Pippen was out for the first 35 games due to a foot injury, and MJ was starting to have problems with his knees, as well as had a cracked bone in his right index finger - the one his used for shooting his jump shot. As a result, for the first two months his numbers and percentages were at the worst of his career. He was after all turning 35 by then. However, suddenly and prior to Pippen returning, he started playing incredibly great. His numbers and percentages went up, and he ended being the scoring champion, having scored over 40 points 13 times during the season, and the Bulls ending up tied for the best record with the Utah Jazz. And even though Pippen returned and helped out, he wasn't his old self, as the injury had obviously taken a toll on his athleticism. Michael really played greatly that yr, and much better than in 1997 despite playing injured, putting similar to better numbers than the previous yr, all while coming from behind and bad percentages. He won the MVP award, and needless to say, the Bulls went on to win the 1998 NBA title, their 6th, a second Three-peat, and just before being finally broken up in the following months. So while starting very slow, to the point of his team having a record and put numbers of a team that would barely make the playoffs, MJ rose to lead the Bulls to greatness once again.
The NBA evidently has gone out of its way sometimes, in giving the award to someone who doesn't deserve it. So your underlying point WAS proven in the video. Just be mindful of historical facts, and their importance.

Proof that Harden was robbed of MVP:

    Steve Nash deserved his MVP.
PHX was good because Nash made them good. Did we forget 2003-04 PHX was one of the worst teams in the league before Nash came?
Here were the stats of the top 3 vote picks. Nash, Dirk and Shaq
    Shaq: - 22.9ppg/10.4rpg/2.7apg/60%fg/46%ft/11ws
    Dirk: 26.1ppg/9.7rpg/3.1apg/46%fg/~40%3pt/87%ft/15.6ws
    Nash: 15.5ppg/3.3rpg/11.5apg/50%fg/43%3pt/~89%ft/10.9ws
Despite averaging lower stats than both individuals, Nash had the most impact on his team.
    03-04
    PHX: 29- 53
    MIA: 42-40
    DAL: 52-30
    04-05 Season
    PHX: 62-20 (Nash's 1st year)
    MIA: 59- 23
    DAL: 58- 24
That's a 33 game win increase, top10 in largest win increases or swings.
    Here's some comparable win swings: 97-98 Spurs - +36 win swing 89-90 Spurs - +33 win swing 79-80 Celtics - +32 win swing
The major difference between the 03-04 PHX season was a increase in games Amare played (30 more) and Nash's arrival. With Nash running the Offense Phoenix finished first in offensive rating and PPG, as well as first in the West with 5 other 50+ win teams. For comparison the 97-98 Spurs finished 7th overall in the league, the 89-90 Spurs finished 4th overall, and and the 79-80 Celtics finished 1st.
With Nash at the helm, the Suns' 3 next best players saw bumps in scoring and efficiency:
    Stoudomire- 20.6ppg/47.5%fg to 26ppg/55.9%fg.
    Joe Johnson - 16.7ppg/43%fg/30.5%3pt to 17.1ppg/ 46.1%fg/47.8%3pt(Best year)
Shawn Marion - 19.0ppg on 44%fg to 19.4ppg on 47.6%fg (not much increase)
Nash's impact was so great on each player, Amar'e and Marion were also in the MVP race. Nash led one of the greatest turnarounds ever.
Stop with the nonsense, Nash deserved his MVP.

    • @VICTORGENTRY
      @VICTORGENTRY 7 лет назад +3

Completely disagree. Amar'e only played 55 games for one in 2003-04, also the Suns were going through a coaching change having fired Frank Johnson after 21 games... with this, D'antoni didn't have time to plant his system since 1/4 of the season had already passed. This in turn gave the Suns a whole 2004 summer to learn D'Antoni's system. Also, the Suns added Quentin Richardson who averaged 15 PPG which is crazy considering you look at the other 4 studs the Suns had and his FG% was actually a little down compared to the year before with the Clippers.
Also, has we are seeing now in 2016-17 with James Harden, D'antoni's system is PERFECT for any PG to increase their stats. Shit look at Kobe in 2012-13 with D'antoni as coach. Kobe went from averaging 4.6 assists in 2011-12 to 6.0 assist in 2012-13.
The NBA also changed the entire division standing from 2003-04 to 2004-05. The Pacific division had Seattle and Portland in 2003-04 season but moved them to the North West for 2004-05. Seattle went from 37-45 to 52-30 in just 1 year. Also, the Lakers had taken a HUGE hit basically losing everyone but Kobe and they sucked to go along with the Clippers and Warriors who were also garbage. The Kings were also still a playoff team but were declining and that would be their last 50+ win season (50-32) and their last playoff appearance would be in 2005-06, meaning they were QUICKLY on the decline. Also, they had traded C-Webb and Doug Christie Meaning Peja was the last great player they had from their early 00's runs.

@@VICTORGENTRY What you said, I agree... I saw an article recently ranking the top 20 NBA offenses of all time... Like 6 of them were Steve Nash teams, 3 from his Dallas years, and 3 from his Suns years... But if Steve Nash was so great, and he spent almost all of his career surrounded by good/great players, then why did he never even make it to the Finals?
Jason Kidd played the same number of years with Dirk, and even in the twilight of his career, once he finally had another Hall of Famer next to him, Kidd was able to help the Mavs finally win the title.
Nash was a very good player on offense, but a total liability on defense. Nash is the most overrated player in NBA history.

How? Rose led his team to the best record with Noah and Boozer out half the season. Lebron had a big 3 and couldn't do that. Rose was the only player in the top 10 in Pts and Ast. Rose was arguably the best defensive PG he held the opposing PGs to the fewest points all season after Rose's injury the Bulls dropped to one of the worst in PG defense. So again nice try, I'm glad you thought it necessary to make a shitty point and try to cover it poorly but sadly it backfired on you.

Ariel Castillo C'mon dude, the NFL MVP doesn't mean jack shit. It almost unilaterally goes to a quarterback or a running back. Occasionally a linebacker or a defensive end gets it. The NBA MVP can go to anyone in any position if your team is good enough.

Should try to do a MVB video - Most Valuable Busts. Basically the video would look at perceived "busts" and see who among them actually do not deserve the label based on whatever production they had throughout their NBA stints. I guess you can also look at which of these busts should have been seen as a role player instead of stars.

    • @brianscalabrine5184
      @brianscalabrine5184 7 лет назад +28

Proof that Harden was robbed of MVP:

      +Brian Scalabrine
      Wrong.
      per 36 minutes, 2014-15 season:
      Harden: 26.8 PPG, 6.8 ast, 5.5 reb, 44% FG, 37% 3, 87% FT, 3.9 turnovers
      Curry: 26.2 PPG, 8.5 ast, 4.7 reb, 49% FG, 44% 3, 91% FT, 3.4 turnovers
Curry was so dominant he skipped out in 20+ 4th quarters thus way less minutes. Curry shot way better from the field, way less turnovers, better passing, better defense, and led his team to 11 more wins than Harden did. Curry also had better 4th quarter stats than Harden.
And Harden did not lead them to the Western Conference Finals. Josh Smith is the only reason Harden got past the 2nd round, with his literally MJ like clutch performance in game 6, *when Harden got BENCHED by his coach in an elimination game*
And then Harden disappeared in games 3, and 5 of the WCF, including NBA record 13 turnovers in game 5.
