I don't think AJ is the best pursuit theme, but I don't get the "too hyped" thing either. Like if you get hyped while playing then i think the theme makes a good job.
My Overtaken-loving heart is crying rn. I don't get the "too-hype" argument, that's exactly how Apollo would've reacted whenever cornering someone - loud and emotional. And the reason it's played a lot less times is because unlike in the trilogy, you're not exactly cornering people to reveal who the bad guy is. You're fighting to uncover the truth. Which is exactly why the Truth theme is playing much more often.
Aj fans really make anything up to defend their game. You know the other themes also play while fighting to uncover the truth right? They just also play later in the case when finding the killer

The original cornered and lying coldly have the best feeling of actually cornering someone, the other themes are good but maybe too hype for their own good, the original 2001 has a certain harshness that the other themes lack and probably what makes it unique and perfect for the kinds of breakdowns and pressing the witness
Cornered 2001, SpellBreaker/Casting Magic, & The Resolution of Naruhodo Ryuunosuke are my fav of all time, welp especially SpellBreaker. Never played Layton Vs AA but that theme stuck inside my head.....

Really great that you based it on it's era and not on how it sounds good because tbh, anyone can just argue that TGAA has like orchestral vibes to it which sounds really really nice( One of my favs) and argue that it's better than the classics such as lying coldy. Heck I would even put trials and tribulations pursuit in S tier because of how it fits to the emotion of the game's cases. But yeah, that's my opinion about the the topic. I see that I have really different taste. Because on the first place I would put AA1' pursuit theme or DD(they're really close and I just can't pick), then I kinda prefer Wanting to find the truth over Lying Coldly. LC is amazing, but that part in WTFTT from 0:52 just amazes me. And overall the song is good, but that part is the reason why I think it's better. And lastly... I think Cornering together is slightly better then Great Pursuit (but the DGS1 Pursuit is still better then Cornering together) But I enjoyed your ranking and I know everyone has different taste, so I am not disappointed or anything.

Very good tier list and I think Questioned deserves its place at D for one simple fact: the Pursuit theme is supposed to, above all else, be a theme that encapsulates "victory". Questioned in the only Pursuit theme that makes me feel stressed upon hearing it, which is exactly what a victory theme should not be aiming to do.

My rankings of the themes only on their musical quality regardless of their game use-(No spoilers here and my opinion) 11)Casting Magic(Also Cornered- English Court)- Yes, their are lowest on d tier. And I can justify. So Casting Magic would have been S tier.......if it was only used in a case where Phoenix saved Earth from some super aliens. It is way tooooo hyped! Way too.. it lacks urgency completely. And now Cornered Orchestra of PL/PW...... it sounds great but it is lacking. Both of them are good songs but they deserve this spot(my opinion) 10)The Great Turnabout- Alright so it suits the use in game...but as a song alone, it lacks urgency. Way too triumphant. It plays only at the end of the case(at least in 1st case as i have only went through that for now...)so it suits well in game. But it lacks urgency. C tier. 9)Cornering Together- Alright hold your fire guns! I know it sounds extremely crazy but it actually deserves this. And i can explain. So the melody of this song is great but lacking intensity. It needed perfect instrumentation to not sound dejected in the second half. And the instrumentation was worse than i expected. It lacks the needed hits and sounds empty at parts. The bass still keeps the song alive to some extent but apart from the intro, the rise of the tone in middle and the end, the rest of song is really lacking...hugely. Still C tier for it's nice melody. 8) Questioned- Alright, time for the theme which always gets the short end of the stick. Alright so it suits the game perfectly. AND AND it does really well even on its own. It is really intense and it's second half is awesome. It has great urgency too! Lacks a bit of needed pursuity feeling but then it wouldn't have suited JFA at all! And a song which cant suit the game is a bad song for ost no matter how well composed it is. It could have had bass tho. Still B tier. 7)Overtaken- Overhyped, lacking urgency, hot blooded like Apollo, epic, the least used pursuit theme and overrated. Said enough. B tier 6)Caught- Alright another theme which is underrated(except this video). It has the most layers i think, and despite that it keeps it's intensity really well. And it's urgency is so awesome too! And boy the way it captures the emotion is so awesome! The themes are getting awesome from here. It has the hype and also the somber part. A tier easily. 5)The Great Pursuit- Alright keep those guns down please. I can explain this too... so see. It's first half is marvellous! But in the second half it loses the intensity. It's urgency is really hard to articulate. Like it is more triumphant than the previous but it doesn't seem overdone. It's done well but loses it's 4th spot in the second half. A tier 4)Keep Pressing On- Alright a loved theme but super underrated! Like people like it but underrate it. Also when you said that it isnt hype, I laughed so bad that I fell of my chair fr. Don't get me wrong, I understand that everyone has different opinions and I respect them. But like...uhh i kind of got offended. And I can explain. It's melody is super pursuity without sounding too triumphant. The guitar section is awesome and the bass is great! And it is consistent, like the themes ahead are too. The variation version is perfect and actually how the normal one should have been with the normal intro. Trust me had the normal one had the twinkling effects and the hits,it would have been 3rd. Missed S tier too. A tier. Next 3 are S 3)Cornered- Yes for the last time keep your guns down. Yes it is S tier and it is really cathartic. It suits Phoenix perfectly too. It's melody and instrumentation and intensity and urgency is done awesome. It is just kind of repetitive and the two themes ahead give so much more than this. Cornered Variation is the best song in AA, not Cornered. Still great, S tier. 2)Wanting to Find the Truth-Alright this theme is loved enough but slightly underrated mostly and heavily underrated here. It is awesome and majestic musically. It has the perfect urgency, intensity, melody and instrumentation. Oh and you said that it doesn't suit Edgeworth? It wouldn't have...had been any other game than AAI2. In this game Edgeworth goes through a huge arc too. Won't spoil but yes he questions his purpose as a prosecutor and the challenges he faces are really big. The stakes are really big. And this theme suits the Edgeworth of AAI2 and the situations in that game perfectly. Just one song which is completely perfectly beats it.S tier. 1)Lying Coldly- Of course this is the best pursuit theme and 2nd best pursuit overall and 2nd best song if variation included. It has the perfect urgency, the perfect urgency, the perfect intensity, the perfect characterization. Just awesome! The piano, the best bass in the series and the amazing musical structure! Cornering Together is my least favourite by far. I love all the other ones, but for some reason that one never did it for me at all.
The JFA Pursuit is the best, and the PLVSAA Pursuit is the worst.
