  • Today I roundup the micro 1/4” EDC Socket/Tool Kits that I’ve been through so far and what I like about each of them. As well as some of the things I don’t like. We have Milwaukee, Facom, Icon, Craftsman, and Gearwrench. I didn’t include the Husky because there was really nothing about it that I liked. If you click through any of the links to Amazon, I might see some small amount of monetary gain. Any others, I will not. They’re all here for your convenience.
CRAFTSMAN V-SERIES Socket Set, Shallow MM, 1/4 Inch Drive, 38 Piece (CMMT45751V) (there is also an SAE option)
    amzn.to/4dl4WZn
    Facom 1/4 inch socket set, 6 points, 38 pieces, 1 piece, RL.Nano1
    amzn.to/3A9SIV2
Milwaukee Ratchet, Socket and Bit Set 1/4 Inch 38 Pieces
    amzn.to/3Sr02St
Icon Locking Flex Head Ratchet and Bit Set, 35-Piece
    www.harborfrei...
And regrettably, Gearwrench has gone to this new thing that I’ve not yet laid my eyes on and the two kits I have here are both discontinued. But this is the closest thing they have these days.

HF set with the Mikita impact socket set Model # E-01694 @ HD for $15. You can get a small pouch like Maxpedition Micro and you have a $65 all in tool set that has sockets, a ratchet, driver, bits, extension, and a pouch that can hold a multi tool as well. I built a motorcycle tool set that has the HF set, KESI Tool Socket Set 13-Piece, 1/4" Dr Quick Release Ratchet (amazon), Yiyeie 9Pc. Super Thin Wrench Set (amazon), Klein stubby 32308 screw driver, knipix cobra mini, and an HF Gordon multi tool in a Pelican 1040 micro case. About $150 and I have an awesome kit to make any roadside repair for when I go cross country. I feel very confident that if I can't at least bandaid it on the side of the road with that kit then I can't do it at all even with all my tools.

Thanks for this round up. I've learned a lot and have several of the same kits. My favorite overall is the Icon.
However I also really like the Wiha go box set as well for one specific reason. It's a true achievement in compactness. They really squeezed those bits together. Also the metal box saved some more space. It's like half the volume footprint of the Icon.
Oddly enough it's really heavy though. It's like they filled the ratchet with lead. Noticeably more dense than the other ratchets. That's the one thing keeping it from being undisputed EDC champ.

I kind want the ratchet from both the Icon and the Milwaukee, one of the screw driver handles (but as a bit driver and just have that adapter), the case material of the Icon, a couple of wrenches, and sockets from whichever. Lol

Man something like it with some sockets would have been amazing in my glove compartment last summer. Yours truly here discovered his car running poorly on a road trip. I’d had to replace the starter before I left. Seems I’d forgotten to tighten the air intake and it was letting air past the MAF. A 1/4” drive Duralast Ratchet, 2” extension, and a 10mm socket got the job done.
Also, HF is supposed to have a version with sockets here soon. And I wonder how much it’ll be compared to the Facom that varies between about $80 and $90.

You missed probably the best value in a compact 1/4 drive set by not covering the Dewalt 50 piece (like 22 pieces are bits) 1/4 inch drive set DWMT81610T. It's $34 on Amazon. the box isn't perfect but it does offer both Metric & SAE sizes in a small package and has a great ratchet. Dewalt also offers a slightly lager set in 3/8 drive. Try truco for the case, they sell many different models. All metal, nice colour and such. I use foam for mine, came out grear. Mine isn't as compact as you may want. But it deff carry size. Im primeraly using 3/8 and 1/4. They kit came out great as i chose every single tool. Funny enough i love that facom ratchet, its deff head heavy. But its smood and reliable. Much better then the hybrid crafsman made for their version of the kit. One thing is true, if it doesn't feel good in the hand you won't use it. Is why i have a million screwdrivers 😅. Talking about screwdrivers, i went with vessel wood screwdrivers. Excellent options. Anyway great vids and great collection of tools. Just some warning, once you start customising your tools, its hard to stop 😅.
