That craftsman V series set is designed to hold a Facom ratchet. Craftsman swapped in their 1/4 ratchet, thats why is has those plastic parts in there to make it fit.
Its fine without the plastic inserts we arnt sending it to the fake film set we call the international space station the ratchet is fine so what if wiggles around.
I have the ICON set, and I'm waiting for the new one to come out. I service assembly machines, and they have SAE & Metric, so I need both in one set. Craftsman's case looks okay other than the ratchets not held in place and the ratchet is not serviceable, has terrible back drag, and the head is too big. I do appreciate you showing these. Have a great day Man
I'm gonna hold off on the craftsman for the upgraded icon bit set. It is literally the exact components as this set even the bit holders are spring loaded and flip up like this set does. Has a bit driver, a flex head ratchet, 2 extensions, a four way flex extension and both metric AND SAE sockets. Except it's gonna be priced at $80. I'm an certain it will go on sale for $50 regularly.
@@ThingsMen You know the best deal is to actually get the icon 1/4 drive modular socket set that is on sale thru tomorrow for $59.99. that combined with the icon meme tool and you have top of the line everything you need. SAE and metric full set no skip sizes.
These definitely seem like some nice socket sets. I wish my Lowe’s would have had the Craftsman V Series stuff available. Not one store with 90 miles stocked any of it for these past couple months since all this stuff has been “on sale”. I don’t care for the ratchet at all but I like the driver handle and of course the sockets seem quite nice. I also like that the sizes go up to 14(metric) and 9/16(SAE). I can’t stand when a 1/4 drive set only goes up to 1/2” or 13mm. Personally I wish every 1/4 set would include sizes up to 15 and 5/8” but that’s very rare.
why dont you just buy a different socket in that size? Is it the end of the world not to have 1 or 2 not matching? I have actually used all three different size drive sockets in these sets as well as the socket sets sold alone they are very nice these are on par with old USA SK sockets I have> The deep sockets ar4e exceptionally heavy in the hand very nice.
when Amazon (not 3rd party sellers on amz) has it in stock it's the Lowes prices. I got everything I wanted except the pliers wrench. Managed the screwdriver set a few days ago which I didn't expect to happen.
@ no I never said that. I was just simply stating that it would be nice if more 1/4” sets went up to 15mm and 5/8”. I’m not opposed to having different mixed up brands in a set. Honestly most of the socket rails in my toolbox are mismatched brands mostly made up of older Mac, SK, Proto, and Craftsman -V-(older series most likely from the 60s). I inherited a lot of the older stuff from my pops and prefer them to the new Taiwanese stuff these days even though a lot of it is still well made stuff. I have seen the newer V Series 1/2” sockets and they do seem very nice and heavy.
I don't necessarily think high back drag is a metric suggesting it's a horrible ratchet..sometimes you need a 1/4" ratchet to be strong..I (like most other people) have low back drag ratchets for those few a far between situations...
@@boosted2.4_sky it doesn’t mean they are bad but in a 1/4” situation that would only make them useful for a couple of turns until you would need to use another hand. I think there is an acceptable range and this would be right outside that range. Add in some oil and it fixes it.
Their ratchet kills that for me. I'd also like to know if they use chrome vanadium or chrome-moly to make their sockets out of. I believe if I do get one, I'll wait for the Icon version to hit the shelves. Icon would make a killing if they would start offering their cases for individual sale. I've already got everything that will be in the new kit, I just need a case. I'm considering just making a few extra cutouts into the foam of my 1/4 Icon master kit to add some bit rails and an adapter.
The facom is much better, but it is not serviceable. It's made for the aviation industry. Craftsman makes a much nicer 1/4 called the "mini head". That ratchet is serviceable and has really light backdrag. I think it fits there, but I'm not entirely sure.
This set is really a facom set from facom tools...if you buy the facom version you get a better rachet. Removing those plastic pieces will allow the facom ratched will fit in the box..
All the guys complaining about v-series’ horrendous back-drag is a moot point. Obviously they have more than one 1/4 in their toolbox, so if back-drag is a problem, just fing go grab the one that has none. And that’s besides the point that these can indeed be lubricated and improved a bit.
