Great to hear you used Darkside for parts. They are near me in the UK. They probably have the best tuning parts for the PD engines. If you haven't already check out their videos on here!!!
Here in the uk too, yep they’re THE best for VAG. They’re newest project is fitting the Audi Q7 v12 tdi into a VW Amarok. It’s gunna be epic. 2003 Beetle owner here (1.9 ATD PD)
The main reason for all that carbon buildup is the problematic EGR valve. Additionally, your PCV valve doesn't seem to function properly. Please replace it before it causes issues with your intake. Both the EGR and PCV valves can severely impact the ALH engine's performance.
So I own a 2000 jetta tdi 1.9 manual Is this a pd engine or the other one, or an ALH.. I'm so confused ... And do you know if I can remove my intake manifold without having to remove the turbo or is it integrated on this tdi?
Hello I am doing the same intake manifold for my 2003 Golf TDI, but we didn't get the egr for it. Do you know or have the egr part number for it. Thank you Miguel
Being how old of a diesel it is plus the fact that it is a diesel yes and no you don't need to run a tune but off course if you want every ounce of power it is always recommended
@@gearhead4266 thank you! I'm gonna be ordering mine soon . super excited. I've read that it won't work and must need racepipe, but you just made it work.
I clean my parts in a different way now than I did then and it gives a like new result. I soak the parts it 3:1 water and aircraft simply green decreaser for about a day then pressure wash and they look new the aircraft simply green is non caustic so it's safe on aluminum.
Great video. How was your hole buying experience with Darkside developments, did you parts come in a timely manner and was the DNL Air Express any trouble since we are in the US and the shipment of parts is outside the EU. I'm looking at a few parts for my mk4 Jetta Alh Tdi. Thanks again for the informational video.
Nice! Did all this to my 03 golf alh. Sounds like we are both in the south East. Tons of those pancake pipes on the 1.8t Jetta/golf in junk yards. I’m not a big fan of the karma tune. Have a couple friends that like it. The Maloan tune sounds like it’s more aggressive and has been around forever. On there website they show tunes for the Tesla. I like that.
Yes sir north Florida and I plan on making my own OMI then putting it on youtube I haven't heard of Maloan before I'll have to check them out but I do plan to go with a s7 turbo 1019 injectors and colt cam all from Karma so I might just go with them and a tesla tune that's cool
Having owned multiple pd150s, 130s, etc and been tuning these for a few years now get rid of the EGR!!!! You will never ever get more power from running one! Also, you can get an inlet manifold used for less than £50 on ebay uk. We have thousands of the gt tdis (130,150s golfs) in the uk...you can even buy a whole Golf for what you paid for that from darkside....
That's good info but I would like to keep my egr with the EPA being extra a-holy in the states these last few months and with the added power I'm only relaying what kermatdi told me
@@gearhead4266 aahh, thats fair enough. We only have a smoke test in the UK so they pass with it deleted. Egr valves open when on light load or boost conditions and close when the engines make power. It is detrimental to engine power to use "recycled" air in the form of hot exhaust gas. Introducing warm air is essentially reducing its oxygen content as warm air is less dense and therefore does not "hold" the same amout of O2 compared to cooler more dense air. The same reason why intercoolers are used in charged engines ( cools down the air that is heated up by the action of preasurisation from the turbo)

The shut-off value creates a vacuum in the intake manifold which stops the engine from rattling when you turn it off.
Yes, and during a runaway situation, it can be used to shut the engine down.
Don’t count on it preventing a runaway. I’ve seen a runaway on an ALH with ASV in tact and it did nothing. Good thing it had a strong clutch.
There is a setting in VCDS for off road EGR to limit the function a bit.
Already did that

Great video. My question for you is this. Which would be easier for replacement of the turbo? From the top or underneath?
Top for sure
@@gearhead4266 Thank you. I saw the way you removed that cowling to give yourself some more room.

And the intake you are pointing out isnt the pancake tube. The pancake is the one that goes from the turbo to the intercooler
I'm aware of what the pancake tube is I misspeake regularly like most other people

You have an ALH and you do not need to remove the turbo to remove the intake manifold

Of course
Is the egr cooler and lines also larger or just the valve?
The egr cooler is the same size just a slightly different placement the ear itself is larger

Any recommendations on where to find a old man intake? Seems like they don't make them anymore.. not sure tho. Good video tho
Thank you and unfortunately I do not know where to get one but I do plan on making one and putting a video up of how todo it and all the parts needed
Kerma TDI sells both for the ALH and the BEW PD on the States

No idea tbh. In a stock car, the only intended effect would probably just be compressor intake noise, which I want.

I got them from ebay man

Yes it is. During shut down a solenoid allows vacuum to close the ASV to help the engine slow down to a gentle stop

Kerma TDI still in business? Seen a lot of bad reviews recently on them I wanted a tune but never heard back from them
From what I know of they are but I can't confirm I hope they are still open
I just got their stage 2 colt cams about a month ago. He even called me with options about tunes and turbo an intercooler setups.
Did you hear any change in how the engine sounds?
Maybe a little lower tone but not really it does feel alot smoother
Question!! Would the stock egr wouldve fitted or it needed the bigger one? (Bolts holes) thank you
The size of the bolt holes are the same everything else is different so you will need the larger one or a race pipe
