I've looked at so many TDI swaps that seeing a TDI in it's natural habitat seems strange.
Had an 04 TDI beetle that I did a VNT17/22 hybrid, tune, intake, EGR delete, and turbo back straight pipe...fun little car after that! I had too many projects and got rid of it. I wish I had kept it to put the TDI in a Suzuki Sami for offroading.
What tune were you using?
did you use kerma for tuning?
Put a little grease on the drill bit and tap to keep the metal chips from falling in. The vacuum cleaner is a good idea too.
Sorry I'm late to this one Austin. I wish I had your vast TDI knowledge. I could really use it right about now. Great job of showing the removal. You were able to show way more than I thought you would. Especially going over the top of the motor.
Thanks for the heads-up about Xman! I ordered his 15/17 hybrid for the stockish resurrection of my '00 Jetta sedan, along with rebuilt injectors with DLC1019 nozzles from DBW, EGR cooler delete, 3 bar MAP, etc. Hoping to fire it up and do some preliminary configuration this weekend, and the full Malone tune on Monday. Thanks for all the good info in your videos. 👍
If you load the tap up with grease, it will catch and hold most of the metal chips while also lubricating the tap. Then follow with your steps of insuring there’s no metal chips inside.
you need to get a lift for your vehicles. you have enough room in your shop for one. plus it will help you get to things a little easier
Yes I do!!
@@austinniemela amazingly, they aren’t that expensive atleast not as bad as you would think.
@@wrmathis2 yeah I need to just do it
A good way to score an inexpensive used one is to look at auction sites.
I agree. Then let's be friends so I can use it.
I really hope you open your own shop one day. I’d love for you to do a 3.4 swap for me😁
Sweet! I used to have the exact 2001 jetta black on black with some mods. I loved that car. Now with a 1999 Tacoma... Damn good taste on this channel if I don't say!
Sweet thanks man!!
@@austinniemela digging what you do bro thanks for sharing your work 💪
I like the way you guys work because you do everything Mechanic to save a lot of money 💯💯
Why not stage 7.25
You should make a complete mod video on this car, I’m loving it! Super clean man, great videos by the way!
Have you ever thought about doing a 2jz swap on a 1st gen Tacoma? There aren’t many series on RUclips that have done it so it would really grow your channel. Keep up the work bro. I look forward to every upload!
I love the starter whine when it gets started up 😂😂😂 good ole ALH
I thought it was just mine 🤣
Same🤣 its very anoying
I found your channel a few months ago looking for content related to my 92 pickup, just got an 03 TDI today and saw that you posted this vid. I didn’t know you were a TDI guy as well 😫😎
Yeah man you have seen the red truck right? I swapped a tdi in that thing!
@@austinniemela sheeeeesh that’s sick! I knew it was diesel swapped but I never payed enough attention to realize it was a TDI. How does the little motor manage in the pickup?
Been a big fan of your brother for a while, I have a TDI powered Mitsubishi Lancer so love to see some TDi content! It actually has the same size turbo as yours currently, although i've replaced every single suspension component/bushings/coiloverrs and now all that's finished I have a GTB2262VKLR and injectors to go in to hopefully make 300whp : )
Sounds like a sweet build!!!
I love your setup, my first car was an mk4 jetta with the 1.8 and now i have a mk4 bug with the tdi
My 01 golf starter did the same thing as yours. If you pull it apart and lube it it will stop doing that after start whine. There’s a few youtube videos on it as it’s fairly common. Love the video as usual! I need another ALH
Yeah I have lubed it a couple times, it doesn’t last long for me!!
Austin, I just found your channel today and I must say I enjoy your content a lot. Do you happen to have a full list of mods on your jetta engine? I have a flash tune and some nozzles on mine but I need more top end power, like what your described your car now having.
Its got the gt1756 turbo, .230 injectors, 11mm pump, lift pump, exhaust and thats about it!
what lift pump are you using ?
@@austinniemela Thank you! I just purchased the same turbo from Xman. You are correct, best prices anywhere!
Hello, nice channel :) found today, I got my '99 bora, oryginally Ahf 110 engine, I put stage 1 and strong single mass clutch from darkside development and egr delete.
I have custom flash done by friend with high torque and Maf is disconnected, its fix value 1000 there.
Can I kindly ask You what all intake pipes you have and 11mm pump and lift pump? what that mind?
Forgot mension about exhaust..
I really appreciate You help.
Yet another awesome video! Keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy!!
Man my 2002 tdi Jetta starter does the exact same sound. Good to know 🤔.
I'd be interested to see a cost breakdown of this car, similar to what you've done for the red and green truck in the past. Here in Canada we are getting screwed on gas prices so I'm looking to weigh out the cost of a more fuel efficient daily that I can still enjoy.
In stock form these cars get 50 mpg!! And these are actually really cheap to mod!
Take it from a fellow Canadian. The only issue you'll have with these cars are the salted winters for rusty body panels (especially where the fender meets the side skirt). And also in the winter you're gonna have to block off the front grills or this thing will NEVER warm up.
99.5-03 are the slightly more reliable engine (ALH) than the 04-06 (BEW) 1.9 TDI. THE BEWs ate cams if you used the wrong oil (which a lot of owners did).
@@RandomlnternetGuy Fellow Canadian here also. If your having to block your front grills in the winter to get heat, and warm up to temp then check/replace thermostat or coolant temp sensor. As for the rusting around the front fender to the side skirt, remove the inner wheel well plastic. there's most likely 3-4" of packed in dirt and debris that builds up right in the corner there that always causes the rust or the fender to be pushed out a bit. Don't mind me. Just puffed a bit, felt like some typing.
@@jeffoneill4290 funny you say that, just puffed one and replaced my cts and thermo. Defintely fixed the long warm up problem, noticed it would do the same when the weather warmed up recently. And yea the bottom of the wheel liner was done for the first time when i bought my car, guess the 3 US owners before me didn't have a clue.
And to the OP... ^^ common fail points along with LCA bushings and a droopy headliner.
Mine has a tune, larger turbo, stage 2 cam, manual swap and nozzles. Gets minimum 47mpg even more on longer trips going faster on higher speed roads. You can find a balance between power and fuel economy. Fastest fuel efficient commuter setup on mine as I could
Stock internals?
Autin, you should try and figure out how to hybrid the VW J TDI LOL get 150 MPG LOL VW made a gas hybrid...
I purchased the mild upgrade of a vnt15/17 from xman after watching this video. My Vnt-15 had finally had enough so it was perfect timing. Dropped off my ECU at Malone this afternoon to be picked up tomorrow. Kinda kicking myself in the head for not going bigger but I wanted to retain my ridiculously good fuel mileage.. I have full pd150 Tip kit, deletes, 2.5 turbo back, south bend ect. I want to upgrade to the DLC 1019s but having a hard time pulling the trigger at around $700cad. Well see what the stock injectors can do.. Never had a tune before ! Thanks for the advice on xman turbos brosk
what all deletes did you do?
I had this car a few years back it had been rebuilt just needed paint. I miss it so much 😭
Thanks for the hat and stickers Austin!! will fly your brand proud mate!
Awesome thank you!! 👍👍
nice EGR off, have the same in my golf4, same engine; U don't need this plastic sphere, it's vacuum accumulator for extinguishing flap(?) which was on EGR so it's expendable.... 😶🌫
i thought the website was a scam because they want less than 2000 for upgraded turbos for a v10 tdi so i'm glad they at least do ship parts lol
Sounds great..is it a straight pipe?
Lift the jetta and do some offroad mods on it! They look good when people lift them 👌🏻
Takes a toll on the axles
@@jaredcronin7295 but thats a small problem that can be fixed with stronger axels 😜👌🏻
Hey man nice video! What size rim an tire you running there? What offsett?? Thinking of a similar set up but silver
Hi Austin, do yourself a favor and put a SS flexible braided line on the turbo oil inlet. Much less PITA to remove. Anyway, great vid as always !
I was watching this like, why does this guy kinda look like Cameron Niemela, LOL!
Hey Cameron is my brother!
Guess I’ll have to subscribe to your channel too!
@@nicholassilvestri1804 thanks man!!
Clean TDI bruh!
Hey buddy. What wheels are those? Size and offset? Looks mean. My 00 Jetta alh needs them… “EDIT” never mind. I just watched your video from 3 years ago when you put them on!
Can it be tuned so you get less black smoke when you're getting on it? Seems like either too much fuel, or you need more air and would make more power?
you ever get to dyno this austin? or a guesstimate on how much it made after installing the 1756?
Are those XXR’s? Some good looking wheels. I need to start collecting PD150 parts. With you being on the Eastside, I know it gets cold over there during the winter, with “that certain” thing Deleted, how do you stay warm?! Haha I freeze my ass off here on the Westside.
Yessir new video👏🏼
I absolutely love your turbo setup on this beast. I have a MK4 1.8T, but now I think I want to buy a 1.9 TDI too!
Thank you!! Its a fun car!
What kind of rims are those on there? i really like that look but maybe in black instead my car is silver. That color on the black car does look sweet tho!
Hey dude just picked up a couple jettas where is a good place or forums to fix stuff? One won't shut off with the key?
Hey man, great video! Curious if you have a build thread anywhere? I have an 01' TDI as well and love your suspension, tire / wheel setup. Also curious about your other mods as well. Thanks!
Hey Austin, what rims do you have & is it stock heigh
You probably wont see this but what mods do you run? I have an 04.5 bew and im getting the 1756 from xman, but i dont have fmic will it overheat?
Great editing skills btw.
New to Tdi, I’m wondering what is that device hooked up to you’re CCV? Some kinda catch can? I have a 2002 Jetta with manual
He just has his vented to the atmosphere
Good video, Where did you get the intercooler piping?
How do u jack up ur car without bending up tbe underbody i jacked mine up from the subframe and it jacked up on one wheel in the corner is my car supposed to be that stiff and how do u do it properly thanks 2000 tdi 5 spd 😊
Does Gt1749vb core fit directly into GT1749V Housing ?? Need to know 👍
Hi Austin, I'm from Alberta Canada, great Video. question for you I have a 03 Jetta TDI, and just blew the turbo on it. I have the 11mm injector pump with just the stock injectors and a mild tune its not crazy fast but very fun I love it, my question for you is would you go with this same turbo you have?
Go with a vnt17,did that, injectors and programming and 3 bar map sensor and works well.
Who did you get the tune from?
Here in Portugal an 1756vk not v can't do 230hp, only with pd130 (asv) or pd150 (arl) can get more than 220 or 240hp. Vp 110 ahf need 520 race stg1 to get more than 150hp
Great vid. What headlights are those?
Super clean 🙌🏻
Thanks! I built them, search my channel for the video!!!
YEESS JETTA CONTENT
Clean ALH Austin. Too bad for the overfilled green coolant. :P
Do you still have stock internals?
Where did you get that intake tube? I want that metal intake pipe. Is it needed for the new turbo
Hey just got a 2005 Passat wagon where did you get your performance parts at
Nice!! Keep going, please how can i fix the headliner on my jetta mk4?
Thank you !
is your fitting for a turbo gauge? if so why wouldn't you just run it through your race pipe?
really clean tdi
I’m dying to know the wheel setup! Would love to replicate it for mine
Is it bad to be pushing 36psi through a gt1749v
waiting more fuel and power! congrats
how much hp does this tdi build go for?
Why did you just put the egt in the egr block off plate?
@Austin Niemela, Could you please link me the PD 150 intake? i having really hard time finding them anywhere, maybe called something different? not sure.
Hey where did you get these headlights?
I hope if you search in RUclips for people who converted this jetta to pickup & see it next project soon
is that a tractor battery ;)
nice vid!
Curious why you didn't put the EGT probe in the EGR plate. This turbo is really tempting. I'm afraid it won't be quite enough, thinking maybe the 1856 for me. I have a BEW in a Beetle with Malone Stage 2, and I want MORE. Thanks for posting this video.
EGT in the egr port is not very accurate, i have tried! Putting it right before the turbo in the actual exhaust stream is the best spot for a good reading
@@austinniemela Thank you, good to know! What EGT's are you seeing with this tune and turbo setup?
@@Lord_Verminaard full throttle through a couple gears I see 1300-1350 or so! Maybe more if I hold in it for a while
Did you have a long probe EGT probe when trying block off plate, or a short probe?
Great video!
Why not put a long EGT sensor on the block off plate?
What are your wheel/tire specs and suspension setup?
What was that scratching sound once you started the car after you primed the new turbo. I heard that before.
Never mind you mensioned it was the starter
Once again great job, would like to see you working on vehicles with, shorts and no shirt 😉
Hi,
what kind of vacuum system do you have?
What lift pump
Are you running
what intercooler piping did you use? home made or bought as a kit?
I built it!
I got a pd130 with a 1756 hybrid and its running 210 on the turbo lovely cars boost gaugse says 35psi
Is it laggy
@@davidbillyard6629 tbh felt like. A normal pd130 turbo we’re the boost kicked was nice. No extra lag. Sold the car ages ago and got a. Saab 2.0t now running 275 bhp
my 2003 tdi jetta has a 2002 cummins 5.9 turbo on it and it has a bit of lag
nice work bro!
Hey man, just curious about those headlights
I hope that wasn't all it had?? I can't keep my tires in traction through 2nd into 3rd...
Do you have a LSD?
From what car is that turbo?
Was this a 1.9?
Nice video, where are you located in WA
Am I tripping or is that a diesel!!!!😂
What wheels and the specs? Thanks!
What gauge setup are you using for the boost?
Dude! Nice video! This literally convinced me I can do a turbo myself and I've been thinking about xman's offerings for a while. What tune did you go with? Do you already have head studs?
Do it!! Malone tuned and yes i have head studs
Where did you get the wheels?
How much mpg you getting?
Hello, xman turbo is good quality in turbo 👌🏻 well i think this
You can use the egr flange to put the egt probe
yes but often the probe is not long enough
Or you could use that to see how much back pressure the turbo causes.
Yo man what rims do you have on your tdi?
Xxr530
About what hp do you think your at?
Can I get a link to those wheels things are fire
What’s that wheel setup?
