Groudon and Kyogre: Pokémon's greatest rivalry in lore, VGC and Singles.
Imagine if they we canocially lover and they have a some sort of special move that only works when they are together on the team.
@@Prash_0 Or a common enemy
The fact that those two went top tier unbalanced until fucking gen 9 is absurd
@@thelastshadowpigzThis is a combination that Groudon and Kyogre can do against Rayquaza. Groudon uses Stone Edge and Kyogre uses Ice Beam. If they did that they would not have to worry about Rayquaza again.
Best pair of legendaries ever.
The Groudon and Kyogre Wars are one of the only times legendary lore was accurately reflected in gameplay
I agree, but as the joke says, 4x weakness to water.
@@rodrigovisk3120 haha funny ability but ye
@@rodrigovisk3120 Who laughs last, laughs the best.
Now that I think about, setting a weather to have complete immunity to your 4x weakness is kinda crazy
Yeah they're one of the best legendary duos.
You gotta make one after gen 9 called: What Is The Best Pokémon? Where you compare every number one pick until there's only Incineroar left.
If we get Primals back, Primal Groudon already beat Incineroar during the "What is the best Fire Type Pokemon" video
@@Aquilenne
It literally didn't, Wolfe said Incineroar was better than Primal Groudon.
@@Aquilenneprimal groudon is quite literally worse than incineroar
@@Aquilennenever let bro cook again 💀
He'll probably say incineroar
Kyogre and groudon sharing the no1 spot feels good, they feel like the most "duo" out of all legendary pokemon duos
It does make a lot of sense but idk, I personally just ~feel~ like Kyogre is "better" (context being a "best pokemon" video) and, since Wolfey listed it last and mentioned it's one of his personal favourites as well, I'm considering it the winner - for whatever that's worth. Surely it's one of Wolfey's favourites over Groudon for a reason right?
If you like them tied or think Groudon's better, that's cool but I'm going to type out my thoughts below just for my own sake. "Best" is pretty subjective to opinion and I didn't even play with the Primals so don't have proper context for Groudon's peak anyways.
That said, Kyogre doesn't need to mega to boost it's own stabs and fix it's own Thunder accuracy. Water Spout's accuracy is also really reliable whereas Groudon is relying on P Blades more often. The thing that does it for me though is that in gen 8, there were a whole bunch of sun teams powered by Groudon but players still decided to replace it with Torkoal to fit Kyogre on the team (see Players Cup 3 winner). I get that was a metagame thing but it wasn't a one time use and it really impresses me that Kyogre was self-sufficient to the point of slotting in nicely with sun cores and seeing success. I'm probably underrating how effectively Groudon props up it's teammates while being so powerful on it's own but it just ~feels~ like it's less consistent of a threat itself without abusing the generational mechanic - the Primal fire typing and water immunity being massive or Dynamax fixing it's accuracy and bulk all at once. (Edit: I also feel like if it weren't for Storm Drain, this would be much less close.)
TL;DR: Torkoal can be strong enough to be a decent replacement for Groudon, Groudon was only strongest while abusing gen gimmicks and Kyogre sets itself up more easily and doesn't rely on inaccurate moves as often.
@@2LettersSho Yeah, I noticed its more detrimental to whip out a drizzle pokemon other than kyogre, but when its replacing groudon with torkoal, I see the value that torkoal can brings without taking up your retricted slot. Id also agree the kyogre definitely has a good balance of offense and defense and can be more verdatile than og groudon. They only become most equal when they are in primal form, and at that point, they are both at the top of the meta games that they exist in
I think it's kinda poetic how the region of "doubles" or "pairs" (double battles, two bikes, plusle and minun, two villain teams, you get it) gets two Pokemon tied for first place
Plus two pseudo-legendaries, twin gym leaders

In a video about gen 3, it took about 0 seconds for someone to comment Hoennian Inceneroar
It's wild that Blaziken and Mega Blaziken aren't on this list because it absolutely rocked the single battle world. Doubles are so different.
Blaziken gren and cinderace did so well in singles that they never gained spotlight in vgc(weren't that good tbf),same goes for swampert tbh
Meanwhile Rillaboom And the kanto trio gained spotlight in both metas
@@AnweshanPandit primarina too
It's really good in the sun
@ZyjhenCredo Yep I left it for someone to comment
Primarina is exceptionally good in vgc and 6v6ss (btw it's one of the top-dogs in smogon 1v1 meta)
Not really wild to think about tbh. Wolfey clarified it's for vgc so everything about singles will treated like it doesn't exist, which practically doesn't for competitive players and most of the viewers
@@FrancisEmanuelMirasoleh, i think most of the viewers are pretty aware of singles, probably more than vgc. But the point of the comment was more about blaziken being such an impactful pokemon in singles, but not much in doubles.
I think peli would do great at its high school reunion. When it left gen 3 high it didn’t have drizzle, tailwind, or hurricane. Done pretty well for itself since then, i’d say.
He said tho if it just showed up with its base stats

"Don't make me release Mega Incenaroar" is a *threat* LMAO
Pelipper and torkoal getting weather setting abilities took them from bad pokemon to one of the best setters of their respective weathers in singles and doubles

Hey it's also 2 minutes shorter than the gen one video
Wolfey: “I’m gonna keep this one a bit brief.”
The Run Time: Are you sure about that?
Was hoping someone else noticed that lol
I mean, 25% shorter than the Johto video for a bigger and more interesting gen is a decent effort :)
He might’ve meant that he sent the editor less raw footage to edit.
Runtime is one word jsyk
I need to give some praise to the "jury of his peers" bit with a jury composed *entirely of Incineroars* lmfao
🤝
Also from Shield dex: Incineroar’s rough and aggressive behavior is its most notable trait, but the way it helps out small Pokémon shows that it has a kind side as well.
Incineroar might actually make a good judge & jury
Lmao yeah I tried to contain my laughter but I couldn’t, that popped me ngl 🤣
There's something very fitting about the majority of the Hoenn top 10 being weather related Pokemon
and yet the weather pokemon (castform) cant do shit

The editing on your videos is absolutely phenomenal.
The 2 top are in a funny situation, because they get similar results with very different ideas.
Groudon is "the moveset". It can go both sides of the spectrum, it can go in a more support role with rocks and Twave, it can use variable moves (quake o blades, you can cheese solar beam, maybe use heatcrash or heavy slam), while kyogre is spout, ice beam, thunder + other move, since that coverage is already perfect

@@loool72 :>
Yeah. If Kyogre and Groudon aren't on the top teams, it's almost always because the top team was made to counter them. There was no question. Yeah, this current generation they're a little less dominant due to its gimmick and general conditions not being great, but there's no doubt. Kyogre in its worst form is still better than most pokemon's peak.
The kyogre and Groudon situation is similar to koraidon and miradons situation (in terms of what their abilities do for them), 1 has an ability that combos with its stab and signature move while the other just doesn't.

Love these series Wolfe! I think Kyogre has the edge over Groudon. I suggest you put a slide at the end of the video, a summary of the ranking
the bit where kyogre smiled at me was a moment of genuine and unbridled joy
I recently used a Pelliper in a playthrough of Ultra Sun and it getting Drizzle is the buff it needed. It was one of those mons that I wouldn't have paid mind to otherwise, not because I disliked it, but it didn't do anything interesting for me. I mostly wanted to use it as I was told it was great now and I needed a water type that wasn't Primarina (I chose Rowlett). I ultimately gave it scald, ice beam, and hurricane (I don't remember what the fourth move was). I also remember giving it leftovers to make it last longer. Not gonna lie it held its own rather well and was great for shutting down fire-types and removing any unwanted weather. I also had a Tyranitar on the team, so whenever it wasn't on the field I didn't exactly want to deal with sand.
