Our Phantom 2 Quadcopter lost transmission control during flying above 1km in the sky this evening.,descended rapidly down to the earth,crashed through a tree brunches,off to the beach.Witness the most amazing footage,finger nail bitting,heart pounding moments as the quadcopter flew to the middle of the sea almost 1.3km without control,hovered up in the sky above 600 meters,in safe mode,tried to re-lock the unit with satellites and returns to it's original home base where it first take off SAFELY..And the camera planted on the quadcopter recorded it all....

Well done.if we wouldn't like or love our dji units, we would send it back to them..but problems must be solved, quick.I know they wanna make money like everyone, but dji don't sell stamps.they sell uav that must as safe as aircrafts.i hope nobody is gonna hurt by a flyaway or similar.im glad that i decided to buy one,but need totally confidence.we're used to fly in urban areas.there can't be compromising.have a beautiful day and if u find the time, take a look at my channel, thx

I'm gonna upload the raw footage later today since they're many out there who believes that this is fake.But it doesn't matter what people think about it. Bottom line I almost lost a Quadcopter,gimbal and a new GoPro Hero 3+...logically it doesn't make sense looking at the Quadcopter behavior till finish.Hope the raw footage may able to clear the dust...

i have no DJI but Nova CX-20... same incident like what you have here.
made a test flight behind my home then all of the sudden lost control.
it tries to RTL but hit the roof top then descend and hit a tree branches.
fortunately, still flies and hover away to an express way.
5 minutes later, safely return and land.
yours were having bigger batt caps, mine was limited.
called it, Alhamdulillah ;)
moral, never trigger loiter when cloudy!
The default height which Phantom goes to when it has reached the homepoint in RTH is below 70 feet, and the height your Phantom went was many times higher than that. And Phantom does not turn while automatically landing in RTH.
I guess now,I should upload the raw video,without the on screen animations..let people judge it upon watching it...
RAW Footage doint mean nothing, of course its a FAKE RTH .... DJI does NOT stop to reaquire GPS Satelites... if it has no Satelites for whatever reason it slowly lands where it is at that time and dont stay in the Air for Seconds to reoptain GPS FIX !!!!

Is this the phantom 2 upgraded bersion or is this the original version? Because dji claims to have put a better compass on the newer one and im thinking of buyig that one.
This is an awesome video on the return of your drone! I'm thinking of getting a Dji myself....but I'm not sure whether to get the vision 2+ or get the older model and outfit it with a zenmuse gimbal and a gopro. Is it that much more difficult to put together?

That is the scariest and coolest RC related video I have ever seen. This will definitely be my next quadcopter (currently I have an SK450 type quad I built, no GPS or baro). This or the Quanum Nova. Both seem great.

we lost our first one, lost radio at high altitude, the wind was stronger than the RTH, and she flew into the sky. I was more peeved about losing the Gopro. Searched for hours. Nice Video. We Subscribed.

Hi, one question, when radio contact is lost, the fail safe mode should be activated immediately. Why is it fly solo far away until failsafe is activated?

What editing software did you use for the titles/FX and how did you do this sort of HUD-Display showing up in the clip?
I use FCP X and FX Factory..The HUD display I believe it's a stock effect from FCP X

Go for Adobe Premiere for Wins.There are many plugins for it to download..

I just had this happen to me last week. Phantom 2 Flyaway is a real thing. I love my quadcopter and the images it produces, but dang if that is not scary when it does it. Makes me a sad panda.
Glad to hear someone on earth has the same issue.But nevertheless its no good.Hope that its the first and the last.Stay away from those areas which produce RF.

nice video ;) i regonize this issue, loose many time's the connection i have a dji vision .. running after it X) catch it .. & so on ... but not as much space as you have! i life in Holland near Amsterdam ,,,, My god my dji still working :P
I never saw a "return to home" happening in 2 steps like yours did, whenever the contact is lost my Phantom1 always came back directly over my head and did not stop in midway to "re-acquire satellites".
As I see it, it either stopped because it re-acquired your remote or some heavy interference.
We have no clue at first..but later we realized that there was a marine base 500 meters away from the place that we're playing..and later we understand that at certain period of time marines will block other radio frequencies interferance during their radio communication…hope so...

at 4:43 it was still shedding a tree branch it had stuck in its props or on top, you can see the leaves falling. How it stayed level and did not crash from that alone was amazing. Also at 5:29, it was as if the branch finally fell. Also, I hate to make you look like a noob RaFreezo, but did you Immediately shut off the Transmitter as soon as you realized you were in trouble, or did you try to control it, or was transmitter on but you were off the sticks? I have a reason for asking.

I've no idea seriously Bro.Recently DJI HQ saw my video on YT.And they did sent me an email asking me explain what actually happen and I replied.Yet to receive any feedback.
It did fly as norm on that day.Used NAZA mode,did compass calibration,both battery was full but at some point during flight,it lost control/disconnected and reconnect back later into RTH mode.
I believe it's a frequency interference.We didn't aware that there were a marine base nearby.

Why Phantom wen to the see so far like that. The failed safe shood be activated with in 5 second after lost control signal. And it is very strange that it hopped in the air so long before landing.
