      the point is that the vice out and in it have grease, which very quickly consumes the abrasive and sticks them together, which at a later stage may lead to clogging of the nozzle in the sandblaster, in extreme cases, even damage it 😊

    Had to stop this video. Mig welding to a cast iron vise…yeah that doesn’t ever work well(note when milling you can see all the cast iron dust). Chances are it went from here to worse so I stopped. I know he put a fair amount of work into it but I just had to stop.

    • @customrestoration5317
      @customrestoration5317  3 года назад

      If it is not in accordance with the art, I apologize, but I have seen a dozen of videos about how people weld cast iron using the MIG method after preheating the element.

    • @jacilynns6330
      @jacilynns6330 3 года назад +1

      @@customrestoration5317 cast iron is a porous material with lots of graphite in it. You can only braze it with either oxy acetalene, tig ,or arc. Mig is for welding steel or tin. I’ve tried different wires, gases and whatnot. It does not hold.
      There is a rare method for fixing cast iron of forge welding but that is pretty darn hard to do. Bring whole piece up to just below melting point, mix in filler material, and . Some train rapids do it.slowly cool for a day or so.
      On a vise like this I would have either left it or used turkite.

      @@customrestoration5317 I’ve repaired my share of vises over the years and done a lot of welding. Don’t get me wrong you put a lot of effort into doing as good a job as you could. The presentation was good. For future reference, cast iron is porous so is old steel and tin. They soak up oils and these do not wash out. You have to use the flame from a propane torch to bleed it out if you want anything to stick. You will see the water and oils pop right out as soon as you put the flame too it, just wipe up with paper towel and move to another spot till your done.
