A beautiful finished item. I have restored many engineers vices over the years, but never to this standard. Unless, like yours, the tool is to be used as a display item I have never seen the need to remove casting marks, use filler to get a really smooth finish or polish any parts. It is a working tool and these usually lead a hard life and receive quite a battering over the years. I usually clean off the rust, make sure that the sliding parts are in good condition and then slap on a coat of Hammerite paint to finish. I mostly use a Record No.2 vice that I bought second-hand and restored 55 years ago and it still serves me well.
As I mention in the video, there is totally no need to do this kind of finish. But if I want to highlight the design from this era without compromising on function.. I think its a legit approach :) Thank you for your kind comment
The restorations channel is focusing on perfection, this is for entertainment and standard on RUclips is increasing day by day... everything’s started with my mechanics, mr patina and other crazy perfectionist... and this channel is at this level... and it works because quality over quantity is the mission!
I love the color and I love your work! I am just a woman, relaxing by watching your videos. And knitting by watching. Ich mag das Blau total, es ist der Hammer! Ich kann mich bei den Videos total entspannen und stricken. Danke!
Wonderful restoration. This vice looks too beautiful to use. Color is great. When your girlfriend sees how nice this vise looks, she will be proud that her baking plan was part of a very successful project. Regards from the USA.
Good on you for doing a lovely restoration despite not having a workshop, you will get to having a workshop as you seem passionate about your work. We all start somewhere. Greetings from Perth, West Australia.
Greetings from Whidbey Island, Washington State, USA. Another not terrible restoration. Actually, it was a great restoration. The color is perfect and it is set off by the highly polished surfaces and the blued surfaces. Well done, sir. You've earned a new subscriber.
@@NTRprojects I'm working on restoring an '81 Honda CX500C motorcycle. The idea you gave me was for painting the plastic pieces on the bike but also not being afraid the be rough with it and alter it if it's gonna look better. Like you did when you filed down the sides of the clamps to make them even.
Unbelievable! If I had not watched I wouldn't believe it's the same vice. Love that color too. It looks great in your new shop. Thanks for saving that good old piece, something of that quality deserves to be rescued and made to look better than it ever did. Fine work doc!!
MAN THIS TURNED OUT AMAZING. THE COMBINATION OF THE NIGHT BLUE PAINT, BLUED STEEL AND POLISHED STEEL IS BEAUTIFUL. IMAGINE RETURNING THIS BACK TO THE ORIGINAL BLACKSMITH YOU MENTIONED. THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WOULD BE PRICELESS. GREAT JOB BRO.
no cracks. man you got a top shelf piece of equipment there. I got a big old Reed from a buddy of mine a year ago when his pa passed away and he was cleaning his dad's house to sell it. Cleaned it up real good and had to make a new handle. Knew his dad and now have something real nice to remember him with.
Its nice to see a genuinely old vice and not the ones you see on other "restoration" channels that are covered in bright orange surface rust because they buried it in the garden with some salt 2 weeks ago after ordering it from Amazon.
me restoring my tools: oh i'll just brush the rust off, oil it a bit this man: full disassembly, scratch removal, new parts manufactured, everything re-aligned, AND a paint job beautiful ultramarine color by the way, puts me at ease seeing someone do every step of this perfectly. a true restoration master.
I drank a lot of Peroni during my US Navy career. Not the best beer I’ve ever had but drinkable and cheap, two important things for a young sailor. Beautiful job on the vise. Darlington, South Carolina USA
The Blue Gloss is a great color. The polishing is great, too. Luckily those acme threads on the main screw were intact. I just had to restore an arbor that had acme threads, right and left hand. Great difficulty finding nuts, but I found them. Restoration is great fun!! I enjoy your videos.
Brilliant! I cringed when you decided on blue finish, but that cobalt blue turned out great. A new life for old quality tools is something we can all be proud of. They will outlive us for sure.
I hope you have your workshop by now. I am watching your videos out of order but love them so much I wanted to start at the beginning! I hope you bought your girlfriend a new baking tray! Fantastic job and a real work of art!
Yes of course, Omen and Best of luck Dear. For your Brilliant Workmanship, You need a Beautiful and Organized Workshop and Tools and, Please put up such pictures.
Hey Henrik your not the first one to suggest a red one, but metallic is one more step. But I like the idea... Guess not a lot of people would understand it 😅
Wonderfully done, this vise really needed some care and attention and you gave a new lease of life. Thanks for sharing this with is, it was a delight to see.
On a scale of 1 to 6, I give this restoration a full 6. Awesome results, that's a vise to be proud of!!! Great job. Glad I subscribed to your channel!!!!

I’ve watched practically every Vise resto on YT . . . this one is at the top. Very nice. 👍
Thank you so much Scott!
This made me so happy. Reminded me of my Dad. Eye water came.
Thank you from Virginia.
Good on you for doing a lovely restoration despite not having a workshop, you will get to having a workshop as you seem passionate about your work. We all start somewhere. Greetings from Perth, West Australia.
Not bad at all, you did an excellent job polishing the steel. I'll be honest, many people have a real issue getting a good finish but you nailed it!
Thank you Joanna. I learned a lot lately about polishing, so I hop future vids show even better results
what a wonderful tool - fantastic restoration - a tribute the workers who designed, made and used these items.

Thank you for your kind feedback. Greetings back to Washington from Germany
The stunning blue with chrome look and bluing very snazzy. Very good job.👏
From 9gag, you did a great job! Love the look. You gave me an idea for a restoration I'm doing. Thanks!
Thank you James, but you made me quite curious about your project. What are you working on and what Gabe you an idea?

Very nice and professional. Restored pieces are hard to put back in use, they get better than new ones.
Yes they are!
19 min video with no ads! You are literally jesus!
One of the nicest restoration I have ever seen it looks too nice to use now it's a work of art.....
Thank you so much robert, I hope you like my new restoration as well. Best regards

Thank you so much nick. Really appreciate your enthusiasm. Im really happy too
Beauty color. It's like restoring a vise is the rite of passage for the RUclips restorer. :)
Beautiful to see!... Now look for a glass dome and take it to the museum of contemporary fine arts to be seen and admired for centuries to come.
You are just showing a new shop mate that it's good to look and feel better than new.
I use it whenever I'm in the workshop, but I take great care of it, because I also really like how it turned out
After having seen the vise in use in later videos, it was nice to come back to see it restoration. Nice work!

I think that's not an unusual rating scale for a beer 🍻👍
I loved the colour and the detail to restoring is unbelievable from a none starter to a stunner I'd say definitely a keeper
Hey Gaynor, I didn't know that you haven't seen this one yet. Very nice of you to crawl through the channel 😊
Very well done. Too many restorers turn working tools into knickknacks. Here we see a tool preserved and made a showpiece! 👍👍
Superb, many thanks for this video!

Beautiful job! Love the color and polished parts! You took the ugly out of her with an awesome spa treatment! 💎👌🦾

Well done. Think I would have gone with hammer tone paint, but my last big vice was exactly that blue! Nice job.
It turned out great. Like the new blue colour. Well done👌🏼
Love the new screws for the jaw plates and the removable hardware. Very nice touch.
I'm a simple man - I see sandblasting, I upvote!

Fantastic work Sir. I always wanted to polish like you did and have it red metallic just to see how it looks.
