    I think MLB needs to start announcing when an umpire gets suspended or fined. I hear it's happened but MLB never says the umpires name. If Rob Manfred wants to improve player relations within MLB he should start cleaning up umpire's mistakes with fines suspensions & firings. Like Angel Hernandez needs to be fired immediately

    • @jacobhorak4578
      @jacobhorak4578 2 года назад +3

      I fully agree, however part of the umpire union's agreement with MLB is that all punishments to umps are kept private so unfortunately I don't think we're gonna get to see any fines or suspensions to umps publicly in the near future.

    • @brianemerich2524
      @brianemerich2524 2 года назад +5

      your first issue is understanding the mlb doesn't regulate umpire punishments, unless it is something not related to calls made on the field. mlb designates the crew assignments and that is pretty much it, which is what hernandez sues them over. remember angel hernandez has already lost lawsuits claiming the mlb was racist, and now is currently in a lawsuit claiming that joe torre manipulated end of season umpiring statistics to make his numbers look worse than they were. my take on hernandez is that he has been bad enough for long enough that people who have never watched baseball in their lives know his name.

    • @williamsampson4460
      @williamsampson4460 2 года назад +2

      I think the Mariners should enthusiastically celebrate every hit, strikeout and run. The M's would get in trouble for retaliating even though the Angels were cowardly bullies.
      The disciplinary committee at the front office at MLB set a horrible precedent in this incident. The message is that you can hit a batter after warnings and if they react, the player who reacts gets the hammer brought down while the team that ordered the hit gets a slap on the wrist. The angels also basically mugged Winker at the start of the fight. The Angels Manager and pitcher should have received suspensions at least twice as long as the most severe punishment for a Mariner.

    Noticing a trend with the arguments with balls and strikes not involving the swing, the catcher for each one seems to frame the ball to make the pitch look like it's a strike, like for example if the ball is high, the catcher brings it down, low brings it high enough, inside ones are brought to the center
    EDIT: Noticed an unintentional typo

  • @MH-Tesla
    @MH-Tesla 2 года назад +3

    14:15. Trying to avoid getting hit by a pitch. The rule is, did the batter strike at the pitch? It's not, "did the bat travel through the zone." If he's attempting to avoid getting hit and as a result his bat travels through the zone, that's not a strike. It must be, in the umpires judgement, an attempt to "strike at the pitch." So this was a good call.

    • @MrDizzle715

    The screen of the pitch at 17:50 gives a very clear indication of how badly that computer strike zone box is. The fancy computer shows the ball above the computerised box, yet where they show the ball as being at the plate is level with the batters elbow and about halfway between where the top of the box is and where it should be. based on the drawing of the strike zone in the official rule book the top of the catcher's helmet is where the top of this batter's strike zone should be, yet the TV magic box has the top of the strike zone about a foot below where it should be based on the batter and the rules. So the announcers have to ague the call due to bad technology screwing things up - again.

    the kepler clip is amusing, because he clearly didn't touch the ball, but he also clearly didn't check his swing. so the ump got the call right for the wrong reason go figure. also the annoucers reaction to the other guy saying maybe one of the other guys saw it miss the bat by 6 inches was exactly how we all feel about umpires haha. the only ump who ever was gonna see that properly would hace been the 2nd base guy. 1st base guy would have no angle, 3rd base guy should be watching the bat, and the home plate ump went on sound. baldelli had no reason to fight that hard enough to get tossed, barring other things happening in that game which i saw 0 seconds of.

      The runner ran to second on the play so that’s why he fought so hard it should’ve been runner at 2nd with nobody out instead of him at 1st

  • @Maxbps88
    @Maxbps88 2 года назад +1

    @ 8:40 = Clearly we're listening to the Minnesota game-callers as it was a strike anyway because he offered at the pitch. Now it being a passed-ball the runner at first getting to 2nd is legit.

      But I think that was the crux of the argument. The ump calling it a strike as a foul tip did not let the runner advance. That's the way I interpreted it at least.🤷‍♂️

    It's not just the players but the announcers show why youth sports have a shortage of officials. Just look at the disrespect in the majors and you see it mirrored in the youth games.

    Baseball needs a new commissioner - someone who can get these narcissistic umpires under control - also umpires who know something about the game of baseball. Too many don't have any feel for the game.

    Until Manfred grows a spine and starts punishing these umpires for blown calls or worse putting themselves over the game. He will be coward and a pushover.

    • @nateward9592
      @nateward9592 2 года назад +1

      He has no control over the umpires Union. Part of the Union agreement with MLB is the union has full control of punishment and grading. Only thing MLB does is assign em. Manfred’s hands are tied. He’s not a pushover or a coward, he’s a man with no choice or options.
      And there are way less blown calls than the media and whiny coaches would want you to believe. That’s why I follow things like Close Call, groups that analyze and show what happened and if it’s truly a bad call or not.
      Much of the rulebook is based around judgment and broad criteria, they are calling things as written and sometimes it’s a split second decision. I’d love to see most of the people who comment and complain spend time in the umpires shoes, or in referees shoes if they are so inclined. I’m a football referee, state certified, work everything from kids up to semi-pro, I gained a whole new respect for officials by becoming one. It is so not as easy as anyone sitting on the coach things it should be. Not by a long shot. Maybe if more gave it a try, they’d understand that. I’m sure most wouldn’t get past training and classroom work, and if they did not sure they’d last on the field where it becomes real and fast.

    Interference isn't always intentional, but interference is interference. If the runner tries to get up and run to the next base and he's got a player on his back then it's interference. He would've absolutely made it to third base if he didn't have someone on top of him. Rules are rules. Umpires are supposed to uphold those rules and they fail way too much.

    • @iparent2148
      @iparent2148 2 года назад

      That would be 'Obstruction'.........and no, he would not have 'absolutely' made it to third base. If you look at the 'rules', it is called 'judgement'.

    The foul ball argument by Rocco should have been a moot point, Kepler offered at the pitch anyway so it was a strike by swing or by foul.

    That one at 3:20 was dumb. The Astros were in the lead and it was the bottom of the 9th. It had no intent whatsoever, he was just struggling with command. The ump overreacted. Even the guy at bat wasn't pissed.

      You know what I would like to see, when a manager gets he should throw out the umpire. It should start happening with all the worst umpires. And yes I know there are many good umpires but I'm tired of paying for this garbage.
      And unless they make everything public like the player's, managers and all the other team officials fines and suspensions I will not believe any punishment is imposed on these umpires.
