I love how traditional MLB wisdom has it that a manager needs to "defend his players" and get thrown out of the game as a result, actual statistics show that the more an manager manages to get thrown out of a game, the more "close calls" go to the other teams' way. Ejections hurt your team. End of the story. One thing I like about SF Giants manager Gabe Kapler, as well as Bruce Bochy before him, is that they don't/didn't get ejected very often at all, and if players got heated, the manager would seek to assure and calm the player down, rather than getting in the umpire's face, which results in ejection. Smooth, calm, steady, and calculated wins games. Hot, angry, and impulsive loses games.

Not balls and strikes as it’s established you can’t argue them, but perhaps not arguing a reviewed play but protesting because it changes the tenor and outcome, or on a play like you discussed where there’s no opportunity to tag a runner.

The pitcher used two different set positions on the first pitch shown, which is technically illegal, but if you do it the same every time, they let you get away with it. He went from pretty much a set at the belt, then reset up by his chin on the first one. It looked like Ross mildly bitched that he double-set. On the second one, he set from the belt only, then pitched. You really can't do that. It's one or the other, but not both. The announcers didn't know what Ross was arguing. The video editor for this clip understood.

10:20 is the only call I've agreed with so far.. you can't just run the whole way around the catcher like that and pass home plate just to come back and touch up when you notice the catcher didnt catch the ball.. fuck outta here. idc if the catcher missed the ball, he already went WAY OUT OF THE BASELINE!!!!!

Base line is established in the tag attempt. Since he never had the ball he never could attempt a tag which means no base line established to be out of. Safe.
