    a local company wanted $1,200 to do what you just did, but with 2 more vents that were half the size of this (total of 3 vents). i said the hell with that, bought a $275 28 ft ladder and did it myself. besides the ladder, it was about $20 in materials. A+ video man

      Hi Medic311, I want to follow your step to do the same. First thing I have to buy a ladder longer enough to allow me reach the top of my chimney, I can measure the hight and get the ft numbers. But I am not sure what kind of materials I need and how the bats can come out without problems and cannot get back in? here is my email address, if possible, you can email me, toddzhang2008@gmail.com thank you very much for your help. -todd

    • @MiguelSanchez-tj8nu
      @MiguelSanchez-tj8nu 5 лет назад +2

      Medic311 Putting up bat cones is not how you make sure bats don’t get back inside your home. You have to seal up secondary points. If you don’t the bats will get back into your home with no problem.

    Great video. Found bats in my vent just like this one and followed your technique. It worked like a charm. Only difference is that I let them all fly out last night and went up the ladder in the dark. I was afraid they would fly out while i was on the ladder during the day. Once I covered the vent with some screen, I saw them flying around this morning around 6:45 AM trying to return. They all of a sudden disappeared. Not sure where they are now but I'm glad they are gone!! Thanks a lot.

    Thank you for your video. I used your method to get rid of bats. I installed a flexible pipe like what you used in this video. It worked perfectly. Majority of bats were excluded after first night
    (> 90%). And after 3rd night, zero activity around the pipe. The difficult part of this procedure is to seal all possible entry points and you have to be on a ladder for a few days. I installed the pipe on August 16 and removed it a week later. Probably there were around 20-40 bats in the attic. They cause a terrible smell.

    I don't get the "one way door" part? You just used a flex vent that had no door at all. What stops the bats from coming back in?

    • @JamesTalmage
      @JamesTalmage  7 лет назад +18

      Bats need lift to fly. Once they drop out of the one way door, they cannot fly back up in through the door. Also the plastic is too slippery for the bats to land and crawl back in. The reason I know it works because we have done hundreds of jobs that we come back and all the bats are gone. May through July is the time of year for baby bats so be careful about inadvertently trapping them inside with no way to get out.

    All these bat removal videos are awesome, but you all get to work with wood. My problem Is my house was originally wood sided but bricked over with slot bricks for the end vent so they are nesting in between. I have to find something to attach the screen to brick.

    • @JamesTalmage
      @JamesTalmage  2 года назад +1

      Go to your local hardware store and get some masonry screws. The common name is tap cons. Typically they are blue but you would want to paint them a silver color or maybe they have silver. You also need a masonry bit a little smaller than the screws to pre drill a hole then the screw will go right in. The drilling is an extra step but that is the correct way to attach the screen to brick or concrete.

    So you have to know where they're getting in to do this obviously right?

    • @JamesTalmage
      @JamesTalmage  9 лет назад +3

      Yes. You want to seal up all potential entry points so they don't just move to different areas, then put the one way door at the main entry point. Bats can squeeze in gaps a half inch in size.

      That is not ‘chicken wire’ it’s called ‘hardware cloth’. It comes in various sizes, this looks to be 1/4”. Just so you know most employees in a Home Depot or Lowe’s don’t know what hardware cloth is, you will get that 1000 yard Home Depot stare. So you will probably have to describe it as ‘ that heavy screen that is in a grid pattern that comes in rolls’.

      It depends on how many vents. This job was close to 1600 dollars but it had multiple gable vents where the bats were getting in and there was a large amount of bat guano in the attic.
