    This video is more of a rant than a solution

      I agree. It’s not meant to be a how to video. More of a here is “what incompetent non specialist work looks like” I do a better job of explaining the difference in 10 red flags ruclips.net/video/3GBygw0aAFg/видео.htmlsi=DyEi0T9JZz6AjdNP

      @benbatty I disagree. I found the video helpful. Especially with your number one mistake. Ive personally seen a bat caught in netting so I know the vent needs to be smooth but I could see how many people would make that mistake.

    If bat guys weren't so expensive maybe us common folk wouldn't have to try everything in the book to rid our houses of bats.
    I mean I've seen 2500 to 4800 to fix the issues and that price doesn't include clean up of bat poop/pee.

      Yep! And we just spent close to 4,000.00 for this service and guess what?! We still have bats and he informed us he was done!
      Beware, he also has a RUclips channel that I just watched, too!😡
      ( Not this channel, though)

    Very informative video! What company name should I look for to get someone in to identify entryways AND seal them up so bats cannot get back in? I imagine it would not have BAT REMOVAL in the name as I would be connected to a contract forever UNLESS they also seal up entryways (Buffalo, New York).

    What are the odds you can help me with a bat problem in Maryland near Washington DC? Bat infestation, year after year in a commercial building. Many exterminators have tried and failed, going back to 2013. I'd be happy to pay for your flight and pay you extremely well for your help.

      Very flattering. However I am swamped here in Canada. There must be some Bat Specialists in the USA. The trick is to hire someone who only does bats.

    Thanks for the info, a fellow Ontarian! I'll check out your page as Count Dracula, or his son, ( not very big and we loathe killing anything...) swooped in and the household went ballistic- me, yes, classical female standing on the table ( for hours! Till "George" gets home!) 2 Siamese cats most eager to help! And a Jack Russell- I think she a little afraid too- I was under the covers! They are VERY HARD TO CATCH! I'll check out your firm- got a bad feeling, as every year 1 or even 3! appear- got a feeling might be a family? I hope you have a video on "how to lure and catch a bat" sounds like a nursery rhyme! How many are actually rabid? My pets have their vaccinations but partner and I dont- drew the line at covid! Thanks for an informative video. Namaste. Z.

    Had a bat twice in our house over the past 4 years. Most recent one tested postive for rabies. :/
    Hired a company and paid $3000 and they did redid my drip edges and everything in the video right besides using homemade metal cone. However their cone appears to be big enough as i watched a bat fly out of it.
    Please make a video on catching a bat in a house

    You did mention what kind of caulking isn't good, but didn't mention which one you should use. Can you advice please? (and explain why it is better then silicon for the purpose?)

    • @benbatty
      @benbatty  Месяц назад

      I suppose i shouldn’t condemn silicone in general just the cheap aquarium silicone crap they sell in hardware store. You know the stuff because it smells like shit. Latest and thermoplastic is good on walls, soffits and siding especially wood and areas out of direct sun and rainwater runoff. On roofs and areas of high sun exposure and rainwater runoff you want the highest grade silicones. They are very expensive typically and rated for roofs, sun and water exposure. They don’t smell compared to the cheap stuff is the biggest tell. Not sure the brand names in the USA but here they are “adseal” “Novaflex” And “Silpruf” scs2000.

    Well, I wanted to know the type of caulking to use, too.

    • @benbatty
      @benbatty  8 месяцев назад +2

      it depends on the surface. Latex and thermoplastic is ok for exterior walls. For roof areas Specialial Siliconized caulks made specifically for roofs are best(bloody expenisve) and you will have to colour match too as the clear stuff sucks.

  • @stilltuckered
    @stilltuckered 3 года назад +1

    What is the proper kind of caulking to use?

    • @benbatty
      @benbatty  2 года назад

      Sorry to be vague but it depends on the material you are caulking. We use 5 different types of caulk.

    • @xyzyzx2734
      @xyzyzx2734 2 года назад

      use non-expandable calk.
      as far as nets: Flexible Net will Entangle a bat in it. Not good - Use Rigid Net, 1/4"

    How does one fabricate that exclusion device your using?

    • @tompem
      @tompem 3 года назад

      Amazon

    • @benbatty
      @benbatty  2 года назад +1

      Inch and a half plastic tubing, duct tape and plastic fingers cut from a garbage bag. Also we don't use any plastic exclusion devices anymore, too many mice and other rodents would chew thru them. Ours are laser cut aluminum and colour matched to the home.

  • @amydeidre
    @amydeidre 2 года назад

    What is the correct type of caulking if silicone is incorrect? I’m hiring a bat control company and want to ask them what they’ll use and want to make sure they’re using the right kind.

    • @benbatty
      @benbatty  2 года назад

      That would depend on the material it’s being applied to. If they want to use silicone or kitchen caulk then they don’t know what they are doing. If they don’t have a metal brake and aluminum to make custom flashings then you want someone else. Most important is the type of exclusion devices they use. If they want to use mesh to make their exclusion devises then fire them immediately. Mostly ask to see online reviews specifically about bat control. If all their reviews are about squirrels and raccoons and skunks then you have the wrong company.

    • @xyzyzx2734
      @xyzyzx2734 2 года назад

      Depends on you being able to reach the affected area on your own, a company will charge you big... Got lucky - sprayed wasp spray on a wasp nest near the bats, that spray sound woke up the bats, and they flew away, one by one. Made certain no bat was left in there. Ended up using a long piece of wood, screwed in, on the largest gaps, then used the great stuff foam to block some other gaps with it, using a small piece of wood for a minute to keep the foam from falling down, until set. It worked. Bats - gone. After a few days, saw several bats flying by and flying away - no place to park... A net full of moth balls hanging from a nail - to further discourage their visits... Did this exclusion late Aug, when bats can fly, including the baby ones, by late Aug.

    This is hilarious bats can get in down to 3/8 inch openings 1/4” mesh is the way to go

    • @benbatty
      @benbatty  Месяц назад

      3/8ths in “Height”
      The minimum opening needed is an inch and a quarter “wide” as well as 3/8th “high”. So half inch square mesh will work just as well as quarter inch.

    “Specialists” = $$$$
    Get some galvanized mesh, “correct caulking”, a bat cone off Amazon, and watch some RUclips videos and suddenly become a “specialist” without having to drop $3-4k!!

      I know right? Many think of us as monkeys with caulking guns. However there is so much detail and nuance to bat-proofing houses correctly it would make your head swim.

      That’s about as ignorant as going to Home Depot, buying a tool kit and now playing car or boat mechanic lol. Love them as they usually just make me more money but they can also be so cheap you want to send them packing! Every trade has detailed knowledge for a reason and that saves you money in the long run and with Bats! Major health issues….

    Isaiah 53:5, he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes, we are healed.
    For salvation, people just need to follow the way they did it in Acts? They were baptized in the water and of the spirit. Here's why! The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If we are to follow him, we must do the same thing. Death= repentance, Burial = baptism, and resurrection = being filled and rising again from the dead. That's what Acts 2:38 is.
    We must obey the gospel, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ... Matthew 7:21-23, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in Heaven. St John 3:3-5, EXCEPT a man, be born of WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD.
    We can't come up with our own gospel. Galatians 1:8-9, But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Don't be cursed.
    One way for all people. Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans. Our salvation has to match-up with the scriptures and no scriptures on the subject can be taken away.
    Eternity is TOOO long to be WRONG! st, John 5:39, Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
    The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38.
    The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church.
    It's better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction.
    Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, And they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.
    Don't get Titus 3:5 mixed up with James 2:14-26, about WORKS. One is a WORK of your OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS OR GOOD DEEDS and the other is a WORK OF FAITH. Titus 1:16, They profess that they know God; but in WORKS they deny , being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
    If you believe in this message, help spread it in the name of Jesus Christ so people can get saved the right way. God bless you.
