@8:40 My main question about painting metal wheels is: What exactly do you do after priming? See I primed one side of the wheel (internal), and in many places the prime (I used Rust-Oleum Automotive Primer) was like a layer of chalk. I wiped it out, it was a lot, like a thick layer of dust. Then I just washed that wheel. The primer adhere to some parts (best where there was a bare metal), but not everywhere where it was painted surface. I think maybe I should just go over that primed surface w/paint, so together they would adhere, or I did something wrong. The primer is for Metal and Fiberglass surfaces. When you touch that primed surface (after it dries of course), should it stay on your fingers or not? I would appreciate any opinion on this matter, I googled and nothing about it. Some people use application of Glass Cleaner on a rag to wipe it out before and between layers of paint. The wheels are not aluminum, they got a bit rusted, I removed that rust, prepared surface, but smth went wrong w/Primer, I think. Thank you for this detailed film. Update: It might be too high temperature. I painted in Dallas, and it was ~100F, I didn't know about the effect of primer drying in the air. I'll try in the morning at lower T.
Hey buddy your wheels you did look really good they turned out great and I didn't know that you painted that car with cans I'm going to check that video out this is the first video I watched of yours and I subscribed because you did a great job at painting and telling us how you was doing it

@@savagegaming3696 I used the same Rustoleum black paint he used here and they came out beautiful! They guy I bought them off dropped the price since they were all scratched up. A little sanding and some bondo and you can't even tell.

Bro been waiting for you to drop a video for a minute! Love your content just like James content! Been following him for years ever since he painted his wife’s crv pink and probably before that. found your channel through him. Hope all is well with you and your family during these crazy times!
Good how-to. I have a set of stock wheels with a brushed lip and they all have some level of rash on them so I am going to strip the clear coat and refinish them myself and paint the centers to match the car then K2 the entire wheel to keep the lip finish protected. Good job and good to know the Rustoleum doesn’t need the clear unless you are running K2.
I noticed you said cheap pressure washer. It’s cool man, as long as it gets the job done; that’s all that matters. I bought a second hand reel mower of of craigslist for 50 bucks. It’s somewhat rusty but still cuts my small yard. I live in a trailer park and it works for what I need. I appreciate all of your videos! Thanks
You can do some surprising things with spray cans. If you need a specific paint code matched talk to napa. But I've literally repainted half my truck with spray cans and even roll on paint. Believe it or not. It looks like it came from the factory. Napa's paint match spray cans work awesome.
Bro... I had the same results!! With my 2 cans of clear! There is something different about this new clear. I went to Home Depot and got the older formula clear and it works just fine. Glad you did this on your channel, hopefully rustoleum will keep the older formula.

Wondering if you ever spray canned wheels without tire AND painted the lips as well. If so, was there any damage to the paint that occurred during tire installation? I painted a set of wheels gold once but they had the tires on during the paint process so I just used the playing card masking trick.
This is pretty good spray paint and yeah when I put the clear coat on it started to wrinkle. Maybe it was the temperature or something. It wasn't real noticable but knowing me im very detailed and I had to fix it.

Love the video. Question for you. What if you are repainting the wheels that are already black. I know about sanding them mainly to take off the clear coat, but do I need to prime them the respray black or just sand, clean and skip to black paint then clear?
I have done it and not gotten a reaction but im not sure what causes it. I know that some would say it’s from gasses being trapped and trying to escape but that don’t seem to always be the case since I have had paint jobs 1year old wet sanded and wiped down clean no contamination and never been waxed and they do it so not sure why it does it.
Why do you not paint the inside first, then the outside? That would keep overspray from getting on the part you are looking at...makes a much more smooth finish and less chance of having to go back and correct mistakes.
The absolute best degreaser You can buy 111 Tricloroethane. Clean like You have then lightly spray (mist) down the areas You're gonna paint with Tricloroethane. If you have something metal wise that you have trouble with paint adhering to you have to get it down to the bare metal to use this product try a product called etching primer this has muriatic acid in it and it actually eats into the metal and the primer becomes a part of the metal paint sticks like hot dip galvanized. after using etching primer you can put any kind of coating you want on it it will not come off I've tried scraping it off with a metal putty knife off of aluminum and if you get it off you'll have aluminum stuck to the back of the primer. Hey Moore, I am thinking of spraying my wheels. I have some 20" chrome Denali wheels on my Silverado Thunder Ed. Do you have any suggestions on a method of action due to the CHROME (so ugly, I just hate chrome 🤢)...? I am gonna do Black with Graphite Metallic.
I had a video but it got deleted somehow but I use 80 grit to scuff then 220-320 to make it smooth. Prime them then do these steps in this video. The clear is up to you but I prefer without clear unless it’s 2K.
@@JamesDguy Ok, so are you gonna repost video? I have some curb rash, but the 80 should knock it down some. I enjoy all your vids, I have dabble in spray paint all my life that I can remember. You make it look so easy, fresh and clean. Hey big props to you my man. Thanks in advance for your knowledge.
Mark Barilleau II can’t re post that video it was 2yrs ago and all my videos once they get posted to RUclips get deleted from my computer since i would need at least a 5 terabyte hard drive to keep all the videos I have done I have over 400 videos between the 2 channels. It also didn’t help that after I uploaded that video my computer crashed so lost the file anyways. -_-
@@JamesDguy not a problem, was just checking. But thanks for the input bro.
Nice work.
