Got a tip for y'all here to Mask off the tires - use DISHWASHING LIQUID SOAP! Paint this all over the tire - LET IT DRY go ahead and spray the rim - (dont worry about going over the tire!) When the paint dries hose off or pressure wash off the dish soap it will lather up taking all the extra paint with it! GO AHEAD try it. Used this method hundreds of times, cheap and easy! GREAT VIDEO BUDDY!
Dude thank you so much people, when I was painting my rims everyone doubted me and didn't believe it would work or was gonna last but when I was done they were so surprised.thanks for the diy tutorials. Please keep doing what you do.youre making a difference!💯
Hey @buddysDIY Thanks a bunch for ur vids! My only question would be, can I go directly to the alcohol step if it’s new wheels that I don’t like the colour of ?
Thanks for these to-the-point DIY videos. My 15 years old Son and I had a great time restoring his factory wheels. This method worked perfectly as you already know. Awesome video.
I showed mechanic buddy brake caliper trick as he already did his rims....now we doing mine....he got all the tools ,including hydraulic tire remover ...thank you. LOOKS MUCH BETTER .
I really appreciate how straightforward this tutorial was I was really happy to not have to sit through a 30 minute intro explaining a bunch of bs And more importantly following everything that you said it came out amazing it was very cheap and worth it 10/10
Nice job for a rattle can finish. Im a professional painter by trade and just rattled canned a roof rack for my truck. Anything can be done with anything!!! Beautiful job my friend!!!
Thanks, brother...just bought a car to do up for my daughter's 17th and after watching your videos, I have the confidence to do all these cosmetic jobs myself safely and save that all important money. I have an innate distrust of garages due to my own ignorance (and fear) of all things car maintenance...but you're helping me along the way. Quoted £610 to refurb and paint my diamond cut 17" rims and the calipers both in semi gloss Matt)...but I'm gonna do it myself now... thanks again 👊 Gonna put a brand new engine in for her and bring the clock back to zero... but will leave that to the professionals!
So many other videos don’t say how many cans of paint, primer, and gloss you need, but you had it all laid out very clearly. Hopefully gunna get this done as soon as I make time.
Very informative video. Straight to the point . I love the finish on the brake calibra. You speak very well an clear. Your English teacher will be proud of you .

Good video. Something else that works for old clear and paint, Aircraft Stripper u can buy at any parts store. Just use gloves and paper towels and used rag bag. Well vented area. Bubbles up the clear and paint super easy in a few minutes. Then Simple Green 45/55 Water mix to clean after. Let dry and ready to go. Less elbow grease this way
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm curious about painting the lugnuts. Any tips on that? How do you keep them from getting all scrapped up during the installation?

When you were sanding the wheels in the beginning, would you recommend using the wire brush to make the job faster or using the sand paper grids like you did in the video?
Bro I just gotta say how you made this video Is perfect, no bs just to the point. You’ve earned my respect and subscription without even asking. Keep up the grind bro 💪🏼💯
This is awesome mod. I’m deff trying this on my 06 accord wheels. I got the same design and once they get painted black they will look awesome with the silver exterior
Very creative with index cards. I was for sure you were going to fold them back over the tires though..lol Love watching how you did this from beginning to end. I looked outside at my rim's and want to do mines now..lol.

Great video! Ill be doing my rims next Saturday. I was hoping to see you use the wire brush in comparison with the sandpaper. I was debating renting a small 5" orbital sander to make the sanding a bit easier until I saw your wire brush as I already have a high end drill.
Excellent video. I just watched your video on how to paint brake calipers. I love how you get right to the demonstration without the B. S. Like other videos. Thank you!!
Hi, Great vid, thanks. I never thought of using sanitizer to prep, always was worried the additives would interfere with the adhesion. So just wanted to double check, Germ-x contains some "nourishing and lipid regulating additives". Doesn't it leave any residue that could cause problems down the line?
your not going to paint on top of the germx, you are going to wipe it away and i don’t think it will leave much residue for it to make a huge difference. i’m doing my rims right now and i used germ x, will let you know if it messes up
update: the paint was not effected at all and it still came out perfect, don’t hesitate to use germx, i think you can use anything alcohol based to clean the dirt / dust! tip: when u take the wheel off the car, paint the calliper while u have the wheel off to save a lot of time, and then do the wheel. u can paint the wheel while the calliper is drying and smash it out
My years of experience with paint : wear a good filter mask , to protect your lungs from the solvents in spray paint . Wear protective a glove on the hand spraying the paint .
I’m going to be painting all 4 rims on my 2014 Honda Accord this same way and was wondering how many cans of primer and paint i will need to do that? I will also be painting my calibers how many cans of red for all four as well?
Hey thanks! So you wanna wait till paint is tacky but not dry. Honestly I usually paint about 5-10 mims between coats. Any paint can will usually say "Between a few mins and 45 mins." You don't wanna wait till its dry But you also wanna give it atleast 3 mins or so to not be soaking wet. If youre in a super cold area id wait about 20 mins, And youre doint it in the sun or in a warm area liie texas, florida, Airzona, if say 5 mins is probably enough.
Great job. I was wondering if you need to apply a clear coat on the rims for added protection? I'm in Toronto so we get brutal snow and salted roads for like 6 months
Hey @buddy's Diy. Did you end up using the Gloss paint can at the end for your result or did you just say you can if you wanted a more gloss look. Can you specify for those rims if the last can was used or not. Thanks!
Forgive my ignorance, but why did you use a regular 2x primer + bumper paint + enamel gloss instead of an automotive primer + wheel paint (specially designed for wheel rims) + clear wheel paint? I mean it looks really slick but just wondering, I want to make sure I buy the right stuff and don't mix incompatible stuff or have to repaint them sooner.
I used sheet plastic to mask the tire. If you have a blunt edging tool (what I call the safety-cram) you tuck the plastic under the rim edge with the tire deflated. The wheels may need sandblasting if there's a bunch of rust.
They look great. I'm going to do the same. Do you have any tips for the lug nuts to avoid getting paint or clearcoat on the threads? If you layer to much primer, paint, and clear coat are there issues with fit? I'm probably over thinking it but would rather not get to the end and realize I did something stupid.
The best DIY videos out there!!! Thanks bro 😎 . You’re awesome .👏 The way you explain everything step by step always keeping safety in mind and also indicate why you use certain products is extremely helpful. Great job.👏
I’ve been using this spray paint brand lately but never thought of using on my rims or brake caliper. I saw your other video by the way. I was curious about the rustoreluem on brake caliper would hold because it’s not heat resistant.
I have some sunspots on the hood of my black accord. do you think I could use that trim + bumper on it? Thank you for this video. can't wait to fix her up!
How many coats of the clear gloss should I put on at the end after the three coats of the black bumper paint is laid on ? And does that go right on after 20 minutes of the third and final coat of the black ?
‼️‼️Great video! Wondering did you end up putting the high gloss finish on or just the trim and bumper paint? Love the way it came out just wondering if I need the high gloss finish?

How’s the paint holding up 3 years later?
No answer lol
If u don't live in gravel roads or salty roads it'll be okay.
Probably not as good as using actual wheel paint instead of bumper paint.
Just repaint everytime it get bad
Probably better than it looked before.

Buy black lug nuts

I think I'm going to redo mine (curb rash) and go for the high gloss honestly

@@BuddysDIY does this work on chrome rims?
amazing finish and teaching. but how many cans should i buy to cover 4 wheels??
How long does this last before chipping? Or how often do you retouch?
He's using paint meant for plastic and rubber.not gonna last.use enamel primer paint and clearcoat only..rustoleum
Is it necessary to remove previous clear coat and sand entire rim even if there isn't much scratch or damage
How did you paint the inside of the wheel? Did you just repeat the same steps as the front or did you just let it overspray?
I have factory gloss black rims and while you can’t deny they do look superb they’re also the hardest to keep clean and scratch free lol

Yes you should unless the paint already is a two in one product that has a clearcoat in it. But even those won't be as good as a separate clear coat.
Do I need to sand NEW wheels before painting them?
Amazing videos man. I'm devouring your content. Don't you dare stop!
cool. if i still want to preserve the original color of the rims. can i skip to primer and paint? or is always necessary to sand.

Do you have to turn the wheel around and paint the back (inside) too? If yes, did you sand it down and primer it?
Thanks!

I used sheet plastic to mask the tire. If you have a blunt edging tool (what I call the safety-cram) you tuck the plastic under the rim edge with the tire deflated. The wheels may need sandblasting if there's a bunch of rust.
Just use a garbage bag with a hole in it. Even cheaper.

When using the paint for a car could you apply a separate can of clear coat on top and if you can would it still leave the satin finish?
Yeah of course. You would look for clear coat 'flat'
There is clear coat 'gloss' which would cause a shiny finish.
You need the clear coat or it wont last.

Do you need to sand every time? Even if the existing finish is in great condition and smooth??
Thanks man, about to paint my truck rims black. Definitely going to use your technique. 🤙
thats whats up i did similar to my 97 prelude factory wheels aslo added a red painted honda h and a red stri0e around wheel lip.
Do you paint over the valve stem?
And what about if the lug nuts are chrome?
Do you paint them too?
Great video. Really. Confidence inspiring!
One question though. Do you paint the wheel barrels? I thought you’d notice them not being black
can you use acetone instead of germex or alcohol?
Great job! Would you recommend a clear coat at the end.

‼️‼️Great video! Wondering did you end up putting the high gloss finish on or just the trim and bumper paint? Love the way it came out just wondering if I need the high gloss finish?
Let the tyre down and squeeze some 4 /5 mm electrical wire around between the tyre and rim ,then mask up .
Getter a better edge finish.
Lug nuts...how did you do those? Wouldn't they scratch when you put them back on the car?
Do you also paint the inside of the wheel as well? Or just what’s visible?
