      Doing my soon this week. Getting new rotors and brake pads for the third time on my car, no biggie but putting in new struts and control arm. Going to follow this up by listening to you on the Walmart part getting supplies and ready to see my wheels pop! 8 hours isn’t bad at all.

  • @petesky007

    Worth mentioning that you use axle stands and not to rely on the car jack.
    Also, some cars (VW, Audi etc) are more difficult to lift from a single point at the front so to be able to rotate the front wheels you need to jack up both sides.
    My preference is not to use spray paint but to use caliper paint (which in the UK can be had for £5) and after 3 coats gives a smooth finish and there's none of the overspray.

  • @Mr.PeabodyateU2
    @Mr.PeabodyateU2 3 года назад +253

    If you do choose this method I highly suggest masking off the entire wheel well from over spray, the over spray will definitely be noticable inside the wheel well, and also recommend masking off some of the outside fenders, over spray is no joke it gets everywhere, or you can choose to use brush on paint, still looks just as good, no worries of over spray, much less masking..

Needless to say I was very angry at him.. red overspray on the front end of the car. Car was only a few years old! What a dummy! You are correct. Take the brake off then spray. This paint is not for brake. it will over heated. It will only last for 1 year. The paint chips will stuck on to you brake pad.be careful. this is friendly suggestion.

    Love the way you give the basics. Quick and simple. Only issues i had were the single jack under the front end. Better safe than sorry. Do one corner at a time if you dont have jack stands. It may take longer but its safer than trying to balance a car on one point. Also taking off the caliper and bracket only need 4 bolts total. You can sand/wire wheel while its installed. Then just balance it on top of the covered rotor to paint. I would remove the pads as they are just held with clips or just by pressure of the caliper. Taping off the rubber and plastic parts and bleeder valve are a necessity but you also dont want paint on the rotor. Youll have paint that will be seen through some cars wheels. As for the rest its great.

    @ronaldwoofer5024 2 дня назад

    proper technique.
    some people just spray primer and then paint the caliper then wonder why couple years later their pads siezed up...
    Its cause now theres rust flakes trapped under the paint causing the whole thing to blister...
    Naturally unpainted rusty calipers have the rust flake off and fall onto the road, but when its trapped under the paint... well you get it.

    I don’t usually subscribe to folks….but I did here.
    One thing I will note about steps.
    You used a heavy duty Jack to raise the entire front end of the car. I definitely can see the front shift & wobble.
    It was nice to see the smaller Jack stands used in the video shots with the wheel removed.
    You might have mentioned safety & the need to do that. I realize it would seem to be common sense, but if you aren’t used to jacking up cars and taking wheels off someone might get hurt or the car get damaged by using just one centered heavy duty Jack & both front wheels off the car. You did mention the safety aspects of the E-Brake & chocking the back wheels…..reminding people to use Jack stands once lifted would have also been a helpful tip.
    Other than that…..great video.

    I did mine last 2 years ago but used a brush on epoxy. This method means I don't have to tape or mask anything off. In a perfect word, you'd paint them the same time you're doing a brake job. This way you get the top bracket sand blasted so it looks like new.

    Dude! Those bright metal brackers part of which sticking out at the bottom and top of pads is where your pads slide back and forth, they can not be contaminated with paint, clearcoat, etc. For simple safety, if you understand how floating caliper/brake system works, you should've remove pads and sliding brackets.
    Beatifull job cant be just about looks good screw safety measures, some safety and common sense should be applied especially if you advertize/show this to general public, contaminating pads and rotor surface with all those cleaners does not seem like a great idea either.
    2 stinking bolts out and you could have remove pads and hardware, gain full acces to put plastig bag over rotor and have better acces around the caliper to clean and paint, I mean you could mount it back without pads, just dont press brake pedal while at it.

    Nice video, to the point. I like that. Never enough hours in a day if I want to sleep or sit-down and eat. Some easy reminders for me in your video. Saw how non-rusty your vehicle is, nice. Here there's a constant battle with rust (they pile on the road salts from October to May) and after 2-yrs my calibers look 5-yrs old with rust (average 18k miles a year on my Buick alone). When I re-do the front-end and rear-end this spring (due to sodium-chloride [road salt] and rust) I'll keep your video in mind. Yea, I'll still have to take the calibers off to paint them, but they'll be off anyway. Thank you.
