@@vanishingpoint808The short answer to that is: depends on the bolts. Although titanium offers a superior strength to weight ratio when compared to steel, titanium isn't necessarily stronger than steel. So unless you are very sure of the specs of the bolts you're taking out, I wouldn't risk it and just renew them as BBS requires. Be it steel or titanium, metal fatigue happens to any metal that's exposed to repeated stresses.
1:34 for situations like the broken bolt you may give a *manual* impact driver a try. Like KS Tools 515.1003 (it's just the first one I happened to google)
Would it be a good idea to clear coat the barrel? mine got restored a few years ago but it's been hard to maintain the rims, they are now black almost.
They were just normal wheels back in the days. You have no Idea for what germans used them 😅 My grandfather put his garden hose around it... Some used them as flower potts
Can you tell us what torque you used when re-installing the face bolts? I have a set of 2 piece AMG rims that will need to be refinished and the assembly torque is the only spec I am missing.
Look great 😁I have the same mag and i planned to restor it but i dont have a sunblast or rust gun remover and paint gun so this is possible to do it without all this with just some sandpaper, chimical product, good sray cane skills? I know that would be long but my friend told me a restoration like that is almost the price of the mag so do u have any tips to do it on a budjet ? 🤔
when I restored some badly worn aluminum wheels I only spent $140 on sandpaper, aluminum polish, and a polish applicator. It takes a boat load of time to do but its worth it in the savings you get compared to having a professional restore ur wheels
Kudos for the effort, they look awesome. Did this sort of project on a couple sets of rims, I would consider applying clear lacquer after mirror polishing the bead. It was a pain to maintain if kept raw.👍
Bolts should constantly be renewed!!! That is a must for the company BBS!
Even with titanium bolts?

Sandblasting without gloves... You are sick madman. Beautiful job
Thats some janky ass sandblasting styles, love it haha.
It doesn't hurt too bad as long as the pressure isn't too high and you're not pointing directly at your hands xD
I just picked up a set of RS771 and I'm gonna get mine looking good here very soon.
Now THIS is a proper wheel restoration. Well done!
Thanks 🙏
...famous last words - 63 MORE! GREAT job!!!
1.Broken Bolt What tool did you try 2nd time?
2. Is it a 5mm hexagon tool? 2:40
Yes, something like that (don’t remember ?mm)
9/10 shops wouldn't even dissemble let alone clean up each bolt. Really thorough job and very refreshing to see 👌
Neither would I disassemble the rims. Chances are high, shearing these screws off. Those are made of Titanium.
Masking them and happy it is.
1500-2000k in a shop..
shops didt remove old balancer glues anymore people just go after green paper
A lot of hard work and looks good as new!
Thanks 🙏
I've always had BBS and MOMO close to my heart. Great job.

Thats some labour intensive job! well done.

I think this is the sweet spot for the channel. I need more of this.
Gorgeous job. Would love to see how you deal with deeply scratched/scraped wheels.

Usually 25-28nm
@@makukhawheels4674 thank you

Beautiful result and excellent careful process. How many hours of sanding and polishing were involved?

Amazing job! I can't believe how people destroy quality BBS wheels like that :(
Thanks🙏
They were just normal wheels back in the days. You have no Idea for what germans used them 😅 My grandfather put his garden hose around it... Some used them as flower potts
They weren't "destroyed" the cerakote thats put on them from the factory is garbage.

6:12 What is the blue stuff? Some type of lubricant? If yes: should one be using lubricant on bolts?
It'll be thread-lock mate
Well done lots of patience.
What did you use to polish the lips to get the chrome finish?
120-240-400-600-800 sandpaper, than 2 polishing paste
@@makukhawheels4674were the lips powder coated silver before you polished?
@ yes, whole barrel was powdered with lip
@ how did you polish them? Looking to do the same on my set👍🏼

Great work. I’m impressed I can’t lie.
I hah a set done a couple yrs ago had centre done in bronze with black barrel and bolts the Audi logo on the caps was in black as well. Looked 👍👌👌
Interesting video. Was wondering if having a motorised turntable in sandblaster might save you time?
A bit, i guess)))
When an bolt is broken, we decide to weld an nut on it. Its the best and easiest way to replace it.

If they are titanium, witch i believe they are it would be expensive

That looks so good! How are they holding up? I wonder if the bolts would start to rust, now that they have been stripped of everything.
