I honestly love you David! I went through almost all of the instaonex review videos on youtube by famous youtubers like Casey, potato, and so many more, but I was pretty bummed out since they all talked about the save things (stabilization, audio quality, etc). I love how you went above and beyond to talk about how it could be used in a podcast (super creative btw), why instaonex is so great in post which nobody talked about, and being able to review your past videos 360. Dear ambassador David... you are the first person giving us the real answer as to the real world resolution of the One X... it is 1080... Although it has one feature - the "disappearing" selfie stick that I'd just love to have... it is just 1080. I'll wait a year or so for the 4K one - 4K real world! Thanks and blessings!
I'm going to make all of my friends refer to me as Ambassador David! Hahahaa!!! Just to be clear, the full resolution is 5.7K, so if you're using it as a 360 camera, then you're getting the full 5.7K. For me though, the concept of 360 is much more about reframing. So yeah, when you crop just a piece of that 5.7K, you're obviously going to get a lower resolution. Sort of just the nature of 360 in general. Totally agree with you that when they can up the res a bit more, this thing is going to be even sweeter!
@@jonmatle Probably, but even if they could get it up into the 6K+ range, that cropped in piece would look even better! The 1080 on it right now is already super impressive!
@@DavidManningvlog Oh for sure. I was just replying to say that it'll take longer than that to make the jump to 4k. On larger sensor cameras, it was easy enough to increase the video resolution because the sensor was already over 4k, but the commenting fella is suggesting something much more of an engineering lift. That's a whole new sensor that's probably several cycles away. Also, I think the majority of people who seem to need 4k may be over blowing that need. 1080 is still a great resolution that will work for 99% of applications. One of the main reasons to shoot 4k is so you can crop in without losing much resolution and on a 360 cam, you're already getting that function.
Nice. Similar to podcast idea. I did a few vids where were eating a meal with the fam at the restaurant. Pros and cons. Pro: tons of camera angles giving the impression of multiple cams. Cons. Very poor low light and definitely need external audio. But overall it was cool and easy to use for newbies. To me it is a GoPro killer. The hyper lapse has been so much fun to use. Oh I have found that you absolutely have to calibrate before every use.
Where the Jones that’s a rad idea and such a good use for it! Totally agree it needs external audio pickup and the low light is pretty poopy. But for the use cases you can come up with for this thing, I see why it’s a GoPro Killer for some people! For me, it’s like a GoPro almost killer. Like, it just beat it up real bad, but didn’t die 🤣
Might help ya out on the hyperlapse. On the GoPro just film normal. Speed it up in post and you can slow it for audio sections. If the next one x improves the audio it will be more of a challenge to the GoPro.
Thanks Sean! Yeah, I've done just the speed up thing, but a Hyperlapse has a specific look that you don't get with just speeding up the footage. There's an extra level of stabilization that happens to give it that really odd effect. And I'm totally with you that the Insta360 needs to up their audio game. For now, I'm using the Rode Smart Lav hooked straight into my iPhone, then syncing in post. A pain, but sounds great!
It's tough because this one is still so new. This camera is for sure incredible to have, but you're right that each new generation just gets better and better! This is still pretty early in their product cycle though, so I think it's a safe buy right now!
It's interesting that you mention filming a podcast. I've done that for my podcast many times but it's always on the GoPro, I have the Hero 7 Black. Works well. I never even thought of this camera, let alone being able to have it film multiple angles so it looks like I've got a multi-cam shoot. I was actually gonna search FB marketplace for some older cheap GoPros to achieve multiple angles but now I may as well save up and try and get the Insta360 instead. Thanks for the knowledge!

Hey Sammy, just responded on your other comment, but I'm a fan of the Insta360 over the Fusion mainly for size, price, and the Insta360 has the latest features. The Insta360 also has a higher resolution and an app that makes the usability of 360 footage so much easier!
You can turn off the led in the app. I'm having a problem with the app freaking out and rebooting(?) when I go into a video and try to edit. Using a Hauwei Mate 10 Pro.
Thanks Scott! Someone else mentioned that as well. As for the app freaking out, I haven’t heard that at all. It’s actually crazy to see that the Insta360 app has 4.5 stars on the App Store. I would say try deleting and then redownloading the app to see if that works for you👍
Thanks Chris! Yeah, the GoPro is still king for now, but especially when you're trying to focus on something else, making sure you're in frame is sometimes crazy tough to do! Pretty sure 360 is the future and it's close!

David Manning yeah that’s the hardest thing I find right now that I’m not sure if I’m really capturing what I want to capture. But I’m on vacation now and being able to swim with my GoPro hero 7 black and not have to worry about it getting wet or submerged in water is a beautiful thing. I love the durability of the GoPro but love the functionality of the insta360
There is 1 thing you have wrong. You can turn off the light and the beep in the settings...and ...people who are initially having issues with the camera need to check and see what the phone setting is. By default, its set for IOS...you have to change it to Android. When i 1st got mine, i thought mine was broken because i couldnt update it. contacted customer support and they didnt even ask me about it...so they sent a replacement....later on my own, i noticed that setting. Changed it and everything started working. When i do my review...ill touch on some things you may have left off...like some of the bad
Man, I’ve gone through everything and I know you can turn the beep off, but I don’t see anywhere how to turn off the light blinking. Could you share where in the settings that is? That’s crazy about the iOS and Android settings being like that. You should for sure make a video putting that info out there!

I've been looking into this, and the one thing that stops me from getting it is that the battery only lasts 60 minutes. I'd like it to go longer so I can sift through all the running footage I capture with the GoPro.
Will is That GoPro Guy totally and in real world usage, I’m seeing about 45 mins of battery life. What are you getting on your GoPro? I’ve seen pretty similar results when recording on the GoPro.
@@DavidManningvlog I get just over 90 minutes. When I use the GoPro Karma Grip, I get about an hour and 45 minutes, but if I'm careful, I can pop the GoPro out and get the last bit of running if I'm still on the road, or get the after party.

@@DavidManningvlog I've only recently changed my GoPro settings. I was running 1080p/60fps with Protune on for the Hero 6. But I'm experiementing with 1080p/24fps and Protune off, so I can adjust the color and lighting. I think not going higher than 1080p is what helps me.
have you tried shooting this cam on a stage curious about the footage and being able to mash up different band member views in post aka not having to have multiple gopro's on stage anymore?

Yangus DQ8 great question Yangus! I still have the RX10 III and love it! It’s an amazing camera that’s super versatile. The 24-600mm zoom is bananas. BUT, I’m also a huge fan of the RX100 V and VI. They’re both sweet, so you just need to decide which size works best for you!
Why cant they make these things with interchangeable lens covers for when it gets dropped/scratched. Sand will scratch if if you have sand in ya pocket at the beach for sure
Love it Joel! Totally something I recommend to anyone trying to get into a new thing. Mimic to get going and slowly begin recognizing the things that you do that make you unique. Then begin to create your own style! Love it man, that could be a whole video in itself!
The functionality seems great but the videos I've seen aren't as crisp as the Gropro and there is often lens flare. Perhaps the quality of the vids will improve in the future
one tip of advise, dont put the insta360 directly on the table. those lens are the most sensitive peace of the insta360. always but always keep it inside the velcro patch. regards from Portugal
we cant call this ACTION CAM, its a 360º CAM and thats it. i am new with my 360 but it a pain in the ass always having to worry about hitting something. i just hope i dont strach any of the lens. regards

The first accessory you want to pickup is the 1/4" to GoPro mount adapter! It's a little piece that screws onto the bottom. That way you can pop your Insta360 onto any GoPro mount! There's on on my list here amzn.to/2ZOETFc You could pickup a few different GoPro mounts for your ATV depending on where you want it to be. The video I did with it sticking out the front of my motorcycle was just with gaff tape! 🤣🤣🤣

I love the Sony RX lineup for travel cameras and for most people, I think the Sony RX100 VI is the best camera for travel and just everyday life! It has an almost UNREAL amount of stabilization! Checkout their website and I think they actually have a mtn biking shot on there. The thing is too, you can use the built in stabilization, but because the view is so wide, you can export a wider shot, bring it into Premiere and stabilize it even further. Especially for the stabilization and reframing option, I think you'll see most mtn bikers switching to 360 in the next couple years!
For sure some more Insta360 videos coming in the future and I’ll hone in more on settings once I have a chance to try them all out and tweaks the dials a bit more👍
Arthur Lavooy it’s a solid question and I’ll for sure have a video coming in the future comparing the two! The reason I compared it to my GoPro 7 was that it’s currently my go to “action camera”. I think 360 cameras seem intimidating, but I wanted to show that they might actually be more user friendly than a Norma GoPro because you don’t have to be so focused on nailing the composition while also focusing on whatever action sport you were doing. You’re right though, and I’ll get my hands on a GoPro Fusion for a comparison soon!

Isaac Alonzo yeah, totally agree that the detail is lacking. For sure the GoPro still has it best for resolution and picture quality, but the concept is so intriguing! If they can get their next camera up to spec and waterproof, they might just make me switch!

I’m totally with you Sagar! And I’ll for sure get my hands on a Fusion to do a comparison at some point. More than anything, I wanted to get into whether a 360 camera could take the place as my go to action camera over what is now my go to, the Hero 7. I think 360 cameras can come off as intimidating, but in reality they might actually be better and easier for people that don’t want to worry about framing their shot while also trying to focus on whatever action sport they’re doing.

Great video David!!! So I have a question. I subscribe to Apple Music and for copyright reasons it will not let me use their music in post-editing. I see that epidemic sound is $15 a month. I really don’t edit videos often so I don’t know if I can justify another $15 a month bill. I tried to convert the format of the audio file and it will not let me. Anyhow, I know long question :-) is there a way that I can use Apple Music that you know of? Thanks buddy!
Nope, you’re totally out of luck! You can absolutely get a file from Apple Music downloaded, into an editing software, get your video all dialed in and then get it uploaded to RUclips. But then you’ll immediately get hit with a copyright strike and your video will be muted on RUclips! It’s the worst!!!😫 Even if you’re not trying to monetize on RUclips, you still need royalty free music to add to your videos. It’s a huge bummer and why I ended up just saying the $0.50 per day was worth it to me. Even if I only upload one video per month, $15 to license one song is crazy cheap compared to what things used to run! Yeah, up to you what works best, but down the road when you get frustrated, use that link😉
Totally agree about the case! I’ve been out with it and it’s honestly not worth rocking it without the case. I’m just always worried about it. And totally agree it’s the future of action cameras!
Ver Coda I’m totally with you! I’m really not a fan of the computer based software. The app though is super dope with the viewfinder mode! Probably my favorite part of the experience so far!
Movie youser I’m totally with you, I’m not a fan of the “360 look” at all. What I am interested in though is composing in post! If they can get the resolution up on this thing and make it waterproof, it would be hard to grab the GoPro!
The stabilization is good and the video quality is poor for 360 videos but it is so good for reframing the footage in post. check out my insta36 hyperlpase videos on my channel. Youll get a good idea what it can do!
Great videos man! I wouldn't by any means say the video quality is poor though. It's been super impressive for me! It looks like most of what you were shooting in that forest was a bit darker though, and it's true that it's not great in low-light.

A dab a of loctite on the treads of your action cams when threading them to a pole or using Gopro mount items I use it on the treads and let it set for a few mins after tighting and that suckers is good to go less worry of it untreading it self due to vibrations. www.loctiteproducts.com/p/t_lkr_blue/overview/Loctite-Threadlocker-Blue-242.htm
Interesting idea Bayy! I've used blue Loctite for other uses, but never thought about using it for action cams... How hard is it to remove your camera though?
@@DavidManningvlog just a small dab at the first couple of threads. Unscrewing it is easy and just use a small wire brush to clean up. I have a dog seat I made and mount to my Honda ST1300 so he can ride and I use that loctite to mount it. Pretty simple clean up when taking it off. As they say a little goes a long way.

Absolutely Shinil, I totally get that! The reason I pit the two against each other is that when I go out filming something, I usually have a go to action camera. For now, that’s the GoPro 7 Black. Thanks Chris! Yeah, the GoPro is still king for now, but especially when you're trying to focus on something else, making sure you're in frame is sometimes crazy tough to do! Pretty sure 360 is the future and it's close!

David Manning yeah that’s the hardest thing I find right now that I’m not sure if I’m really capturing what I want to capture. But I’m on vacation now and being able to swim with my GoPro hero 7 black and not have to worry about it getting wet or submerged in water is a beautiful thing. I love the durability of the GoPro but love the functionality of the insta360

There is 1 thing you have wrong. You can turn off the light and the beep in the settings...and ...people who are initially having issues with the camera need to check and see what the phone setting is. By default, its set for IOS...you have to change it to Android. When i 1st got mine, i thought mine was broken because i couldnt update it. contacted customer support and they didnt even ask me about it...so they sent a replacement....later on my own, i noticed that setting. Changed it and everything started working.
When i do my review...ill touch on some things you may have left off...like some of the bad
Man, I’ve gone through everything and I know you can turn the beep off, but I don’t see anywhere how to turn off the light blinking. Could you share where in the settings that is? That’s crazy about the iOS and Android settings being like that. You should for sure make a video putting that info out there!

Here are the steps: Power on>hit the small button twice to get to the settings>hit the big button to enter> hit the big button 3 times to get to the "about"> hit the small button twice to the "LED"> hit the big button to choose on or off> hit the small button to move to "Beep"> big button to select on or off>little button to "IOS or Android" and big button to choose either>hit the little button until you get to "done"..hit big button to select it

I've been looking into this, and the one thing that stops me from getting it is that the battery only lasts 60 minutes. I'd like it to go longer so I can sift through all the running footage I capture with the GoPro.
Will is That GoPro Guy totally and in real world usage, I’m seeing about 45 mins of battery life. What are you getting on your GoPro? I’ve seen pretty similar results when recording on the GoPro.
@@DavidManningvlog I get just over 90 minutes. When I use the GoPro Karma Grip, I get about an hour and 45 minutes, but if I'm careful, I can pop the GoPro out and get the last bit of running if I'm still on the road, or get the after party.

@@DavidManningvlog I've only recently changed my GoPro settings. I was running 1080p/60fps with Protune on for the Hero 6. But I'm experiementing with 1080p/24fps and Protune off, so I can adjust the color and lighting. I think not going higher than 1080p is what helps me.

Yangus DQ8 great question Yangus! I still have the RX10 III and love it! It’s an amazing camera that’s super versatile. The 24-600mm zoom is bananas. BUT, I’m also a huge fan of the RX100 V and VI. They’re both sweet, so you just need to decide which size works best for you!
Why cant they make these things with interchangeable lens covers for when it gets dropped/scratched. Sand will scratch if if you have sand in ya pocket at the beach for sure

The functionality seems great but the videos I've seen aren't as crisp as the Gropro and there is often lens flare. Perhaps the quality of the vids will improve in the future

one tip of advise, dont put the insta360 directly on the table. those lens are the most sensitive peace of the insta360. always but always keep it inside the velcro patch. regards from Portugal

we cant call this ACTION CAM, its a 360º CAM and thats it. i am new with my 360 but it a pain in the ass always having to worry about hitting something. i just hope i dont strach any of the lens. regards

The first accessory you want to pickup is the 1/4" to GoPro mount adapter! It's a little piece that screws onto the bottom. That way you can pop your Insta360 onto any GoPro mount! There's on on my list here amzn.to/2ZOETFc You could pickup a few different GoPro mounts for your ATV depending on where you want it to be. The video I did with it sticking out the front of my motorcycle was just with gaff tape! 🤣🤣🤣

Get the Back Bar Waist Strap. It's just $28 and currently available (not always the case with Insta360 accessory). Got mine last Tuesday and had a little test ride. Haven't tried it with selfie stick full extended.

It has an almost UNREAL amount of stabilization! Checkout their website and I think they actually have a mtn biking shot on there. The thing is too, you can use the built in stabilization, but because the view is so wide, you can export a wider shot, bring it into Premiere and stabilize it even further. Especially for the stabilization and reframing option, I think you'll see most mtn bikers switching to 360 in the next couple years!

Arthur Lavooy it’s a solid question and I’ll for sure have a video coming in the future comparing the two! The reason I compared it to my GoPro 7 was that it’s currently my go to “action camera”. I think 360 cameras seem intimidating, but I wanted to show that they might actually be more user friendly than a Norma GoPro because you don’t have to be so focused on nailing the composition while also focusing on whatever action sport you were doing. You’re right though, and I’ll get my hands on a GoPro Fusion for a comparison soon!

Those 2 cameras are not comparable. All the cons that you pointed out on the 360 are covered by the go pro fusion.
Andres RmX yeah man, like I mentioned above I was comparing them because right now the GoPro is my go to action camera to grab and take with me. My whole point was is this a camera that could take the spot on my bag as my go to action camera. Sort of a 360 cam vs non-360 cam discussion.

Isaac Alonzo yeah, totally agree that the detail is lacking. For sure the GoPro still has it best for resolution and picture quality, but the concept is so intriguing! If they can get their next camera up to spec and waterproof, they might just make me switch!
@@DavidManningvlog now that they have a killer design they need to push it further and make it waterproof like the GoPro Fusion. The app editing capabilities and the natural looking motion blur effects are so compelling.

I’m totally with you Sagar! And I’ll for sure get my hands on a Fusion to do a comparison at some point. More than anything, I wanted to get into whether a 360 camera could take the place as my go to action camera over what is now my go to, the Hero 7. I think 360 cameras can come off as intimidating, but in reality they might actually be better and easier for people that don’t want to worry about framing their shot while also trying to focus on whatever action sport they’re doing.

My laptop can handle processing 4K, would the insta 5K video even process on a computer who's screen is only 4K?
It can absolutely handle it! Their app optimized things so that the 5.7k footage is really quick to process and export!

Great video David!!! So I have a question. I subscribe to Apple Music and for copyright reasons it will not let me use their music in post-editing. I see that epidemic sound is $15 a month. I really don’t edit videos often so I don’t know if I can justify another $15 a month bill. I tried to convert the format of the audio file and it will not let me. Anyhow, I know long question :-) is there a way that I can use Apple Music that you know of? Thanks buddy!
Nope, you’re totally out of luck! You can absolutely get a file from Apple Music downloaded, into an editing software, get your video all dialed in and then get it uploaded to RUclips. But then you’ll immediately get hit with a copyright strike and your video will be muted on RUclips! It’s the worst!!!😫 Even if you’re not trying to monetize on RUclips, you still need royalty free music to add to your videos. It’s a huge bummer and why I ended up just saying the $0.50 per day was worth it to me. Even if I only upload one video per month, $15 to license one song is crazy cheap compared to what things used to run! Yeah, up to you what works best, but down the road when you get frustrated, use that link😉
What's the resolution in 16:9 linear mode ?
On the Insta360, I’m seeing about 1080 and the GoPro can do linear 16:9 at 2.7k

The stabilization is good and the video quality is poor for 360 videos but it is so good for reframing the footage in post. check out my insta36 hyperlpase videos on my channel. Youll get a good idea what it can do!
Great videos man! I wouldn't by any means say the video quality is poor though. It's been super impressive for me! It looks like most of what you were shooting in that forest was a bit darker though, and it's true that it's not great in low-light.

A dab a of loctite on the treads of your action cams when threading them to a pole or using Gopro mount items I use it on the treads and let it set for a few mins after tighting and that suckers is good to go less worry of it untreading it self due to vibrations. www.loctiteproducts.com/p/t_lkr_blue/overview/Loctite-Threadlocker-Blue-242.htm
Interesting idea Bayy! I've used blue Loctite for other uses, but never thought about using it for action cams... How hard is it to remove your camera though?
@@DavidManningvlog just a small dab at the first couple of threads. Unscrewing it is easy and just use a small wire brush to clean up. I have a dog seat I made and mount to my Honda ST1300 so he can ride and I use that loctite to mount it. Pretty simple clean up when taking it off. As they say a little goes a long way.

Absolutely Shinil, I totally get that! The reason I pit the two against each other is that when I go out filming something, I usually have a go to action camera. For now, that’s the GoPro 7 Black. When they sent it to me and pitched it as an action cam, I wanted to know if it could take that spot in my bag!
