I think filling the filter is a good idea on larger filters. I've been a diesel mechanic for 12 years and I've never had a problem with pre filling the filters. The older dt 466 filters hold nearly a gallon. That's a long time before it primes on its own.

I know that engine is huge, but damn it looks tiny in that house sized machine... I mean it should but, just, damn. In scale this feels like trying to power a Bentley with a 50 horse Briggs & Stratton engine. I know these things don't have to go fast but man, you'd think they'd come up with a better way to power these things than just "Yeah, just run the engine balls out all day, it'll be fine!". I've done landscaping and I've seen machinery that does that, mulch sprayers and stuff, also seen the radiator explode on a mulch spreader, fun fact, the radiator faces the dump truck you're shoveling mulch out of into the spreader... Yeah... Anyway, great video haha.

Massey Ferguson Combine had a perkins 6 354 Deisel stout but probably slow compared to that 500+ ci Cummins.

So I have a question for you, not sure if its been asked before. In Australia we have light vehicle mechanics that work on cars and Ute's (pick up trucks) ect, diesel fitters that work on highway trucks mining equipment and agricultural equipment, auto elecricans that do everything electrical from motorbikes all the way through to mining equipment and marine, and marine fitters that just work on boats and ships, along with many other trades such as motorbike, outboard jetski and mower mechanics ect. In Canada is it all one trade or split up and specialised like us? I'm an auto electrician just wondering how you guys do it because in a previous video you said you send the alternators to a shop in town, here that would be an auto electrician. Cheers love the videos 🤙

When you first started cranking it, it sounded like you had a bit of a skip. Like when your doing a relative compression test and you can hear the difference in one cylinder. Just wondering if anyone else heard that? I’m not familiar with the 8.3, maybe that’s how it normally sounds??? It did sound really good when it was running in the combine.

You learn something new everyday. I always thought paint affected torque numbers, not horse power.

Will it start? It's a cummins of course it will. If it were a ford 6.0 I'd be worried. lol Actually no I wouldn't I'd just throw it away and get a cummins.

LOL I remember the first time I ran the fork truck for putting in a big 400 cummins in a conventional Peterbuilt. Boss said to tip the boom forward a little and I had been already tipping it forward and that rear steering wheel took a little longer to come back to the ground and I told him no can do. lol We had to start over after removing the Front tire which gave us another inch or so.

Air intake basket wasn't turning. Also you should never put your arms in machine like that with the engine running, i know the separator switch was off but still too much of a risk.

The premix logic doesn't hold salt. You are still left with providing distilled water to add to the coolant, which raises the total cost of buying concentrate.

I wonder if it's a good idea to put some used motor oil into diesel tank just a little bit so I don't have to drive to the recycle mint
