born and raised in the great state of Wisconsin. my wife and I fell in love with South Alabama years ago and we are now proud to say Sweet Home Alabama is our home
Last time I heard this was last year played by a band performing in a bar next to the condo I was staying at in Gulf Shores the night before I had to head back to Huntsville. A day or two later I had to fly back to England. It was a great rendition and a happy last memory of Alabama. Folk in The South are so friendly and hospitable. Alabama is my sweet second home now ;-)

Michael Staub Yes, I started my post with a Southern colloquialism purposefully - glad you caught the reference. I asked because the song's meaning is often misconstrued. The lyrics are critical of both Neil Young (for his ignorant over-generalization of Southerners) and Alabama governor George Wallace (for his segregationist politics). I find it very interesting that both Young and Wallace said they loved the song.

Ann Marie DeQuarto They actually DID stop using the confederate flag some years ago . I am a southerner ( since the American Revolution) but have lived in Seattle for years and even I was pretty surprised . This is an older video . I cannot recall which band member talked about it now but the band was pretty divided about it but went on anyway with the American flag .I saw them last in maybe 2010 and they were using the American flag and that was in Texas.

Thanks for the heads up; I thought back in the days when Skynyrd reunited in 1987, the progression was D, C, and G but in the modern era, they played a semitone lower, (like Db/C#, B, and Gb/F#)...How was Billy able to get the keyboard in tune?
They tuned down 1/2 Step because the pitch is in the key of C# instead of D.
