Adrian Belew as well.. or was it Fripp ??.. haaa.. I'm old and stoned.. what do I know ?? !! .. I was lucky to see Beck 3 times.. .. Vai twice.. I do know that.. lol .. I'm a bass player.. so All these guitar heroes blow me away !!! .. Sad to see some leaving after all these decades of treating our senses to such amazing talent !!
I adored this video! This "work in progress", full of humility, is a marvellous lesson of music and Life. You gave me more energy to practice. Thank you and keep going on, Sophie! 👍
Steve Vai is the man Tender Surrender speaks to me. Teeth of the hydra is mind blowing 3 neck guitar with a bass and a harp dude is in another dimension.
Many of your comments while learning is exactly what I say when I'm learning new music. Also enjoyed hearing you sing some of the phrases to learn them. For the next thing (assuming you haven't already) you can do Highly Strung by Orianthi. Great duet with Vai.
Would love to see you (dis)cover The Warning. They have really cool songs with a decent solo, such as 'Narcicista', 'Queen of the Murder Scene', 'When I'm Alone', 'XXI Century Blood' and 'Z'. Maybe something for you 🙃
Brilliant Sophie. You never fail to amaze me. Respect Respect.👏👏👏👏 As you say an incredible track and solo💯🔥🎸 Love to see you learn Eruption. It must be time 👍😎
Nice 5150 Iconic in the background. I swapped out the stock speaker in mine for a WGS Veteran 30, which gave it a little boost in fullness and clarity.
Great video Sophie! Happy 2023! It's interesting to watch you learn, and entertaining to see you get frustrated trying. But seriously, give yourself a bit of a break...one hour to do a solo by Steve. Seems a bit harsh...lol. Loved the vid!
I'm going to speak for everyone here and say.. .. WE MISSED YOU SOPHIE !!! ..Great Job as per the norm.. I'm very sorry I never previously saw one of these where you're learning a song or lead.. This was my fave vid so far .. You curse like the first mate on my boat you float !! Lol.. I do the same when frustrated while messing up while I'm trying to record.. the F word starts flying !! .. and you crack me up with your facial expressions as well.. .. perfect edits and at the same time your playing ability and learning skills are outstanding.. my ear is only fair in comparison but you somehow make it look easy so I'm looking forward to anything you do like this.. It doesn't matter what song you choose.. you make it entertaining !! .. Thank You Always and All Ways and Enjoy the Rest of Your Weekend !! ☆♡☆
Love it and not so much difference in what I do to learn only million times faster. Plus really smart to slow it down I might just steal that trick from you. Was really fun to watch you work on it. 🖤🖤
Id like to see you do children of bodom's every time I die solo. The intro to the solo is wicked awesome! And of course the rest of the solo is just slick and tasty.
Happy 2023 Sophie you are a very talented musician i am very impressed by how quickly you learn a new song i am looking forward to seeing more like this have a very successful new year
Steve did some joint shifts in this song which are probably those notes that sound off? Not too sure but the concept and technique are his invention I guess, essentially bending one string up and another down.
For anyone that doesn't know, whammy technique is actually pretty damn tricky. The part she struggled on is much more difficult than it looks. I can use a whammy pretty damn good but I've never been able to do that and make it sound fluid
A very underrated player who made really great use of the whammy bar in my opinion was the late Derek Frigo of Enuff Z ‘nuff. Well worth checking out if you haven’t done so already… 👊
Ego death is one of my favorite songs right now, everything about it freaking rocks. Funny there seems to be a small section in the guitar community (on youtube at least) that cant set aside Polyphia's weirdness and just enjoy the music. Love your face Sophie, keep on shredding 🤘🤘
@@officialWWM Catchy name, i dont think i would of checked out your channel if it were something else lol. You sound pretty good dude, think its a far shot to call you the worst.
Sophie you are wonderful player and woman however I am 59 I am going back to some online lessons as my chords are lame and my leads need some polish God Bless You and Love, Mark V!!
Hi Sophie, definitely getting there, thanks for showing us your approach to learning,I play by ear myself what do you use to slow things down and does it isolate the tracks thankyou.
Thanks Sophie. Although I don't disagree that Steve Vai is a master of using the whammy bar, let's not forget Jeff Beck RIP who was the real Jeff, not the virtual Jeff, and the greatest whammy wielder. Just look up, for example, his Where Were You, live at Ronnie Scott's on RUclips. So much inspiration there, I'm sure. Thanks!
I’m new to making music in general, quick question for anyone that knows the answer, is she the only one that can hear the guitar because it’s coming through the headphones? Or is it out loud? How can I play without my neighbors burning my house down?
Have you ever listened to ROY BUCHANAN he always interjected surprise unique musical devices that most would not go for. An innovative Blues player I'd say.
Could you go out of your normal ways and try for example solo from Ill play the Blues for you by Albert King? Should be easy for you, but Im intrigued.
Do you have any original music I can listen to Sophie? We seem to be losing the guitar greats at an alarming rate. We need great players like you to make the guitar great again!
what do you want Sophie ?? I Tried To Learn "Ego Death" In 1 HOUR! Take it easy, you're not the only one who wanted to try it. then you're stuck with it for another 1 hour today. 🎸🌹🖤🤘A🇩🇪
You probably already know this, but the guys in Polyphia chopped and rearranged Steve's solo, that's how they like to do things. So what we're hearing isn't really what Steve played.
i watched you spend multiple hours to learn 15 seconds of Tim Hensons part in Playing God lol nothing against Steve's solo but it just shows how complex Tim writes!

You are awesome....!!!
Are the freckles tattoo's 💓🎸
Sophie make please, a cover, something energic, in your style, on a track-final mission intro nes
Please can you learn something of Rage Against the Machine, for example the athem that everybody knows Killing in the name
Old School Challenge, muted solo in Al Di Meola’s Elegant Gypsy Suite 2:32-418 !
Lita ford. Back to the Cave and Paper Sun by Def Leppard.
Jeff Beck was also a Master of the whammy bringing out subtle differences, and the man never used a pick.
You took the text right outta my fingers, Jeff was a whammy master as well
Forever missed.
Yeah, for muy Jeff since grom rock It Is important guitar star but look its me not him not a dead😏 was a field adm.

Came here to suggest that exactly. Maybe put in a request for a Jeff Beck tribute…
Love seeing the step by step progress. It’s my favorite part learning a new song. Piece by piece playing over and over.
I love repetition 😍
@@SophieBurrell te amo ooo.sofiiiia.
You made it sound pretty close without an actual whammy and Sustainiacs that Steve is using. Impressive!
He's not using a whammy pedal or sustainiacs on this one. He's only using a Wah pedal.
@@detuneCris he doesn’t need a whammy pedal since all of his guitars have real whammy bars
@@edge4266 whammy pedals are for other purposes that have nothing to do with floating bridges, but yeah.
that was a bang up job you persevered through all of that frustrating shit and actually kind of nailed it towards the end. GREAT JOB 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Watching you learn is inspiring.
I cant fathom, how you can learn more in an hour, then me in a week. You are The Best. 👌👍
“Floods” or “Cemetery gates” by Pantera would be cool solos to see the learning process for sure! 🤟
Apoyo esoo jaja

Amazing attempt Sophie well done 🎸🎸🎸🎸

As you say an incredible track and solo💯🔥🎸

Incredible progress towards that in just an hour. Amazing stuff. Kudos.
Oh my God. The ultimate guitar lesson.
I absolutely love watching you play, it’s inspiring me to pick up guitar again. I’d love to see you play Alter Bridges Cry of Achilles or Fortress!

Ok this how woman speak wow!!!!!! My mind is totally blown/strucken mam!!!!
You are awesome!!!
the process of taking music is complicated, more enjoyable in the end!
I like the way you tackled the song.
pink is your color!!! girl how do you get those beautiful beachy waves?? amazing playing as always. it takes some guts to even try this stuff LOL
Happy 2023 Sophie you are a very talented musician i am very impressed by how quickly you learn a new song i am looking forward to seeing more like this have a very successful new year
Gifted beyond belief Sophie! Love the hair and look. Awesome 🤘
An hour? An hour?!?! I think I might need a year 🫠
Alex Lifeson is another one who is sneaky with the trem stuff. It's sprinkled in everywhere.
That tone from a strat is unreal
Steve did some joint shifts in this song which are probably those notes that sound off? Not too sure but the concept and technique are his invention I guess, essentially bending one string up and another down.
Why's the music video muted? I didn't think it could be copyrighted, since there's no footage of a videogame, movie or TV show

Ooooh a `virtual Jeff` do I work with bass as well? Happy new year back atcha Sophie. Ever tried to play Rock Bottom by UFO?
Steve Vai is great with the whammy bar, but Jeff Beck took it on a whole other level. Well done. I really enjoyed this.
Both Jeff Beck and David Gilmour are whammy bar Masters
The outro of 'Hummer' by Smashing Pumkins would be awsome - old I know, but then so am I!! 🤪

That solo is so incredibly cool
Love your videos so talented! Re your fingers red or is it the lighting?
The one thing I noticed other than your beauty, was that the whammy never left his hand, while you have to reach for your "New Gear"...???
You're fantastic my friend 👏
nah learning this without tabs is crazy
Sophie is a 🎸 god like me.
Shawn Lane and Jason Becker were the gods at whammy
please do like light to the flies- trivium 😭 even if it’s just half the solos
Symphony of distruction💯💯
welcome💖💖💖☺️☺️✨

Loved this, you had me cracking up .would love to see you play some Triumph , Rikk Emmet is an amazing guitarist
You nailed it!
shHhheheeEEEEEESHHHHh sick effort for 1 hr what a lick
For learning it just by ear and video in a little over an hour it sounds pretty damn close!
This was a joy to watch!
While you're in the Steve Vai vibe, you could attempt Tender Surrender 😅

cool to watch the unraveling
I also shed tears when I heard this song for the first time 😩

Any experience with a 7 string or 8 string guitar? I think you would have no problem
How does she keep her hair like she does without murdering her hair from the dyeing ?
Have you ever listened to ROY BUCHANAN he always interjected surprise unique musical devices that most would not go for. An innovative Blues player I'd say.
It's impossible to be good at any song in 1 hour really. This one is impossible haha. You're great.
Lol, the random "f_ck you"s are exactly how it feels when trying to learn something and the fingers won't make up the difference.
What does sophie look like behind the hair and makeup?
Could you go out of your normal ways and try for example solo from Ill play the Blues for you by Albert King? Should be easy for you, but Im intrigued.
Similarly to Jeff Beck sound awesome ❤

Go on 💯
What a gorgeous girl... Decide by yourself whether I'm talking about Sophie or about the guitar
I show more Sophie's math later in my streams for Sophie's credit for free.

You probably already know this, but the guys in Polyphia chopped and rearranged Steve's solo, that's how they like to do things. So what we're hearing isn't really what Steve played.
