Sophie is a hell of a talent ... so much fun to see her working and to see her incredible intelligence on that instrument ... that young woman is a mind blowing artist ... hopefully, she will be able to satisfy the whole world one day!
I agree, I've been playing for years off and on and what I love about her videos is you can watch what she is actually doing to give you a great sense of what is going on. When the originator of a song plays because there are things, they do that are intuitive to them it becomes difficult to understand what they are really doing with their hands.
I like these "trying to learn" videos because only seeing the final, fully polished and flawless product can almost put me off learning myself (picked up guitar again during pandemic lockdowns) This shows the blood/ sweat/ tears that even a seasoned player goes through, but also the triumph at the end of the effort. Especially when you present the timer on the phone showing us that hours have passed. It's actually very inspiring - plus there are snippets of your methodology in how you learn that can be applied by us. What was it about the tuning that your guitar did not like? What is it "normal" vs what you had it in for this video? I understand you often use a Drop pedal for downtuned songs - but not sure what happened here.
You're DEFINITELY a Great guitarist. You don't have to be dissappointed. To nail a Malmsteen song requires months. But you, at your skills, you can learn in just a few days. Or a week maximum. So keep going. It's good, but can be better. You can do it! I believe in you! So Good Luck! 😘🤞🤘🤘
I think one of the big attractions to these videos is to see the struggle. Don't get me wrong, it's cool and amazing to see someone figure out a song with almost no time required. However, seeing someone who is skilled say stuff like "I don't know what's going on here" or "I can't figure this out" makes some of us(or at least myself) feel less like an idiot when we have those same struggles trying to learn by ear. I only recently started trying to learn by ear and it's so easy to feel like you suck or can't do it.
This video was absolutely fire. As someone who’s trying to find their voice on guitar, your videos are incredibly inspiring. I’d love to see you try and play the solo from “not gonna die” by skillet. It’s fantastic.
Hey! Now, this is a personal favorite of mine. And after years of knowing how to play it, but not practicing seriously, I can finally play it at great speed (although it could be cleaner) after a few weeks of real practice. Here's a few things I picked up along the way: This is a song that should be looked at (for the sake of practice) like a picking exercise. Because it is THE most challenging picking I've faced, even after years of playing Death/Sepultura type thrash metal. Comparitvely, the fretting is a piece of cake. And tbh, you're not doing yourself any favors shredding on a "slow" guitar. But from what I can see, it would really help if you moved your picking hand as close to the bridge as possible (the strings are closer together, there). And if your picking strokes weren't so wide (don't forget about the pinch harmonic on the high E right before the giant scale, which is the toughest part imo). But my, you learn fast! I love your videos, keep up the great work, and happy playing!
This just makes me want to go actually learn arpeggios and scales now! As a bassist I don't stress them as much because a lot of the time in my cover playing its easy to just learn the music and not the theory, and even in songwriting its easy to now stress the scales much. Seeing the ease that you played the arpeggios just blew me away. Also, that eye liner is SICK I love it so much!
It was really nice to see you learning this MASTERPIECE from Yngwie, this one is my everyday practice song since i restart playing guitar after several year without touching it, it help you with everything you must practice, timing, coordination, speed, and so on, great video, kudos to you!
Fascinating, Sophie! I can't get my left hand working at all, (pain in my thumb) perhaps a left handed guitar is the answer? Dunno'! But --- you're brilliant Sophie, --- I can sit here watching and listening to you for hours! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌠
"You guys enjoy watching these videos, and I don't know why" It's because you're pretty inspirational! I'm a LOOOOOONG time electric bass player [longer that you've been alive] that transitioned to guitar during COVID. My 8 year old daughter LOVES watching you and your videos have been 'foot in the door' so to speak to get her interested in music and guitar in general. Also, it's "ing [English suffix] - vay"
I feel more inspired to play guitar when I see you struggling like that. Nowadays we only see perfect super fast guitarists on the internet and the comparison only makes me feel like trash. This video makes me wanna pick up the guitar and learn a new challenging and cool song/piece. Thank you, you are awesome!!!
Ouch! That crack at the end was unexpected! I'm impressed with how you build up the speed so quickly. After an hour I'd leave it playing in my head and come back to it later, so props for keeping it up (not that I've spent that much time on his stuff). And Yngwie (pron - "Ing-Vay" as you said) does this hybrid thing where it's mostly alternate picking, but uses hammer-on and pull off so he always ends up on a down-stroke at the right moment. His picking hand hardly moves either and I think he uses light gauge strings like 8s or something. Anyway, that was cool - thanks!
So cool! That was by far the best guitar video I have ever seen. ❤️ So great just watching UBU and reminds me of myself trying to learn new songs. Awesome fun!
Just found you a few days ago. I appreciate this sort of thing. Sometimes, it's discouraging as a player to see constant perfection of high end playing from others. I typically won't watch people play, cause it creates a "Why bother?" in my head. Showing the behind the scenes is nice.
She can shred, she could kick your ass, and she is willing to try to learn something that ties my fingers in knots just by hearing it! Respect, Sophie!
not mine..although it took me much longer than an hour to learn and I have playing more years than this talented girl had been alive ..if someone could learn malmsteen in an hour then there would be no malmsteem ..A little more respect when working on a song by one of the world's greatest neo classical guitarist I'd say..Cuddos for trying however
I haven't even played yet today and I felt that back pop in my soul... Awesome job rockin on these arpeggio's!!! Can't wait til I'm at a level I can even consoder attempting these lol
awsome playing, you are something. You have chosen one of the hardest song from one of the fastest player. I really enjoyed following you, interesting clip all the time and your ability to master solos in no time, it's simply marvelous.
Would be awesome to see you try Technical Difficulties by Paul Gilbert or Eugene’s Trick Bag by Steve Vai next. I know Paul Davids already did that last one, but maybe you need to show him how it’s done 😁
Don't be so hard on yourself. You did great. I think you are better than you realize. I am a Bass player. Just imagine me trying to do that with my string gauges. From me you get an grade of A+. Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John Gregory ( Zepbass) from Munster Indiana. U.S.A.
very nice job on this one! love the ending track too! where is it from? would love to see the intro solo of "Jewel" by Marty Friedman (the very first bit is played by Jason Becker), I know it's not popular but whatever 😅
Sophie, what a hilarious video! It's not easy to play a Malmsteen's song in a damn hour! Your earing is amazing, these Bachian scales have their hard skills. Your back rattlelike was almost other musical instrument!
Have to see the crunch every time, ya! Disturbing, but no worse for wear. REQUEST: A remake of your EXTREME: Get the Funk Out! or where can I see your original version? Love the song and loved the little bit of your cover on it.
That crack at the end sounded like someone ripping carpet! I hope you have a good osteopath! Fantastic work on the Malmsteen though, would love to see you tackle something by Gary Moore (either the blues stuff or the rock stuff)!
It's good to see that even you have to learn, that you can't just grab a guitar and jam whatever you want, that you're human too! Because it seems that you can just play whatever perfectly. I feel bad for my roommate, he's got to listen to me learning songs. That's got to be some named form of torture because even learning, I like it loud:) But the better I get, the quicker I can learn a song. So it still takes a long time.
Hey Sophie! I do really enjoy your videos, they are fun and kinda inspirational, thank you for doing this. What about trying some Vinnie Moore songs? I believe "In Control" or "Morning Star" can be tricky to learn ;) Nice makeup though !
Oh, an old classic to try and learn from the early days of YT shred videos would be "Speed lives/No boundaries" by MAB. It's probably too annoying to learn in an hour though. 👀😅😂
Yngwie Malmsteen (InGwee) is how I pronounced his name growing up hahaha! I love to watch you learn new material by the greats. I can watch you all day long. When I was growing up, Randy Rhoads was considered the best ever. Maybe you can do some covers of his material?
What I really like is how she's implicating how she doesn't know how it came to be that her trying to learn video did well. Who made the video Burrell?
We like watching your 'learn how to play' videos because you break down rather complex songs into bits that can be easily learned. Another bloke who has a similar guitar themed channel on RUclips (Guitar Pilgram) deconstructs songs in much the same way. So, it's nice to see how to play these songs from experts who know what they're doing. P.S. I very much like your new look.
Ing-vay - that is the common pronunciation. You should try to get into some Symphony X. Charon is a mind bending song. The rhythm is tricky as hell, but the solo work is just nuts.
Can you learn altitudes by Jason Becker? Watching someone play it flawlessly blows my mind. I play guitar and I don’t know how it is humanely possible to play that way. Would love to see your process of learning it!
Sophie...if u put a Ferrari sticker on ur guitars...u play 120 bpm np... ur doing it right...picking is clean ,,master this you've got yngwie entire career...that all l hear in every freaking albums
I also really enjoy your "trying to learn" series. I learn by ear too, so it's good to see what your method is and it's inspiring. I hope you decide to continue this series :) (Putting my teacher's hat on: re. the pronunciation of his name, "IngVEE" is actually much closer than the popular "IngVEY" to the actual pronunciation. The "I" is a sound we don't have in English, but replacing it with "I" is fine. There are audio recordings of his name in Forvo by Swedish speakers. Before this turns into an unwanted lesson, I'll stop here!)
Great to see the struggle instead of flawless playing all the time. This struggle is like me playing regular chords....lol
Must never stop practicing

@@alridenhour352 She is great ... her intelligence on that instrument is limitless ... but also good to see that she has a challenge with Malmsteen ;)
I love these types of video - you’re obviously talented, but it shows that your talent “takes effort”!

I think you did amazingly well for an hour. Definitely better than I wouldn't done.
Im glad you never tore it up right away because Its nice to see that i wasn't the only one that spent an hour + frustrated trying to learn this lol
Ouch! That crack at the end was unexpected!

NICE !!!!
This hard work you are doing
It is what separates you from those that want it but don't put in the time
Loving the thrasher hat
Great job! Yngwie is such a beast.

I loved your idea. You have to do more videos like this one. When you try to learn in fact you are already teaching us. It' s very usefull!
awsome playing, you are something. You have chosen one of the hardest song from one of the fastest player. I really enjoyed following you, interesting clip all the time and your ability to master solos in no time, it's simply marvelous.
You're a beast and that guitar is beautiful.
Love the Thrasher hat!! Sweet!!
It would take me a lifetime to achieve this song. 😨 Good job Sophie. 🎶🎸🎶🏆💯
Good work. You didnt get there but it was a great effort. Would have loved to see you tackle the fast parts but it was cool seeing what i did.
really enjoyed this learning process type of video. I would love to see more!
Poor Sophie and diminished shapes 🤣 that phrygian run at the end is a pain too! Totally can relate.
Would be awesome to see you try Technical Difficulties by Paul Gilbert or Eugene’s Trick Bag by Steve Vai next. I know Paul Davids already did that last one, but maybe you need to show him how it’s done 😁
The Jeff Loomis nevermore born riff would be a good one.

Mad respect! You’re doing amazing!
Amazing, congratuletions
Holy FUDGE CAKE, great great work!
You got it right!! Ing-vay. You get huge props taking on the master.

"Plug in babyyy"
*Plugs in, waits in anticipation to start practicing*
"Beebadee beebadee beebadee boo"
*Throws my guitar across the room*
You will get it enjoy your videos
Groovy eye makeup. It's got a dancer in an Egyptian go-go bar vibe about it 👍
You done great. I have confidence that you'll master it
Great attempts! 😁
I love your freckles
great technique
i like this ❤❤
That crack at the end sounded like someone ripping carpet! I hope you have a good osteopath!
Fantastic work on the Malmsteen though, would love to see you tackle something by Gary Moore (either the blues stuff or the rock stuff)!
Wow, respect … That is one solid hour‘s work!
Awesome to watch master at work. Great job 👍
GREAT JOB
You're awesome, it shows how hard it can be to learn music.
Eugene’s Trick Bag (crossroads guitar duel) by Steve Vai Good luck That would be entertaining.
Awesome video Sophie 😊👍👍

The last BPMs will come from a scalloped neck 😎🤟🎸
Your so talented.Cool you do covers and original music
Challenge piece for sure
That was great, keep up the amazing work. 🙂🙂
Sophie, you have such patience.
Tricky things to learn.
best wishes there.
V
I’d say the intro of Jason Beckers Altitudes, not the sweeps. The intro is difficult but I feel someone of your skill could learn it in one hour
¡Allright!
Sophie, you're great.
i really enjoy "those kind of videos" a lot :)
pretty good i must say!
That was awesome, u r a beast 💪🏼
Oh, an old classic to try and learn from the early days of YT shred videos would be "Speed lives/No boundaries" by MAB. It's probably too annoying to learn in an hour though. 👀😅😂
Love to see your struggling video keep on Showing us your great Talent and guitar skills Love from India ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Sophie! I will do my homework! Miguel 🇵🇷

FWIW, I have played around with a couple of Yngwie licks since I was about 16 and have gotten close - but not quite - to speed. I'm 50.
MEGADETH TORNADO OF SOULS SOLOS!
Learn that one next...PLEASE!
I love these. please do some Parkway Drive, and maybe a little bfmv. Padge writes really fun to play stuff & Parkway riffs just hit different.
Ing-vay - that is the common pronunciation. You should try to get into some Symphony X. Charon is a mind bending song. The rhythm is tricky as hell, but the solo work is just nuts.
You have a new fan Derek in Pearland Tx
Most triumphant.
Absolutely gorgeous and talented 👏🏼🌹
I love your accent !
Great job! ✌
awesome !!

Hey Soph! That was awesome! How about you try the solo from Practice What You Preach by Testament next?
I love you burrell
Hi if yngwie guitar playing you should check out Steve joe just play awesome 🎸
Once again Sophie is amazing!!!!!! 🤙🤙🤙🤙🥰🥰
You still rock!!! How about VH Dreams??
I thought it was pronounced Yngwie FUCKING Malmsteen.
Solid as always. This was my first Yngwie song I learned growing up.
BROO NO WAY I LOVE MALMSTEEN DO TRILOGY SUITE NO.5 😭
Sophie...if u put a Ferrari sticker on ur guitars...u play 120 bpm np... ur doing it right...picking is clean ,,master this you've got yngwie entire career...that all l hear in every freaking albums
