The question "What happens to me when I die?" is absurd, because there is no "I" in being dead. That is what Death means, that the illusion of an "I" ceases. It is like asking where a blown out flame goes when you blow it out, or where the "running" goes when you stop running.
So if its an illusion I never existed in the first place. So all those people who complain about identity and gender by what you said are lunatics. And your flame comparison makes no sense because flame goes in the air. What was flame turns into something else. It does not just disappear.
The worst contradiction is parts of the Bible conflict with the doctrine of Original Sin, for example Ezekiel 18:20 states "The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child"....yet apparently everyone gets punished for Adam and Eve's Original Sin.
@MG-ot2yr That is not scriptural. YOU are not punished for Adam and Eve's rebellion but for your own. The punishment for YOUR sin of rebellion and rejection of God is death - everlasting Death. BUT, the point of the Gospel is that Christ paid that penalty for YOU on the Cross - and if you will draw near to Him, you will receive what He promises - forgiveness, salvation, redemption and everlasting Life. I hope you will have another look and discover God's love and promise for you in John 3 16 and 1 Corinthians 5 1-4. I wish you well.

@@wwlib5390 What? Everyone is labeled a born sinner and Jesus paid that penalty (sort of, its still conditional). All of mankind was punished and continues to be.
@@battledroidsecurity4612 The Bible says that Adam and Eve - who lived in a place without the corruption of death, opened the door to death by their sin - and their punishment of exile into a corrupted, dying world was for THEIR sin of rebellion and rejection of God and His ways. The Bible also reminds us in Romans 5 12 that death is our punishment as well because of OUR own sins of rebellion and rejection of God and His ways. The Good News is that Christ took the full punishment of death (everlasting) in our stead at the Cross for any and all who will draw near to Him to 'collect' - which of course takes faith. By taking hold of that invitation in John 3 16 and 1 Corinthians 15 1-4, you obtain forgiveness, salvation, redemption and Life (everlasting.

It was so funny listening to Forrest's rant at the end because it is exactly why I can't talk about religion with my brother. He's a -moron,- woops, I mean Mormon and his argument about the validity of his religion is _"BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN IT!!!!"_
And the Mormons are laughable EVEN AMONG OTHER laughable people. The fraud in their religion is MANIFEST and MANIFOLD. It’s easy to believe that they can convince children, but ADULTS holding onto it are just hopeless. What a waste.
That's what it boils down to in pretty much every conversation I've ever had with theists. Their experience typically starts with the presupposition that god is real and then the rest is built on top of that. They never took the time to analyze why they believe god is real at the beginning and once they believe they become too scared to start pulling at threads.
Exmormon here. Atheist now. Did the whole nine yards, mission, temple marriage in for years. 31 now. It’s a wild ride trying to show people they are in a cult. My brother essentially boils it all down to his experience with the Holy Ghost. Unfortunately physiology answers that one. CES letter was a big deal for me. That and Steven Hassan’s work.
That’s pretty good. I think my version would be “Nothing. Once we die there is no I or we, just memories in the lives of people we touched. It’s all about how we want to be remembered.” Cheers.

There are no contradictions in the Bible. Well except for how the very first chapter of the Bible plainly contradicts the second chapter of the Bible. And also over 100 other examples between genesis and revelation. But other than that there are no contradictions in the Bible. 😅
@4dojo I don't expect you to actually research each atheist inspired 'contradiction' - but someday, if you come to care about God's Word and to know God, rather than think you 'know all about Him', you will notice there are no contradictions. John 3 16 invites you to know His great love and promise to you. Hope you won't reject it and Him forever.
@wwlib5390 I’m not just some mindless atheist parroting things that I have heard other people say. I was a devout Christian for 25 years and I have read the entire Bible so many times that back in college I was competing in state wide Bible knowledge competitions. So when I say there are a lot of contradictions in the Bible I’m not just making a vague baseless claim. I could name one example after another if you want to. Just let me know. And before you say that maybe they are translation errors, I actually took the time to compare them to the Hebrew and Greek lexicons, they are literally just contradictions.
Thank you, JMike, for saying that when I came out of Christianity, there were tears. I cried many times, but I am so glad I've gotten out and away from the church and all its falseness. Thanks to all three of you. You have all helped me.
Every rebuttal and valid point raised by the hosts went in one ear and out the other. Jimmy wasn’t there to defend his beliefs-he's just another caller who’s terrible at debating, so his only play is to take wild swings at the "atheist view" like he’s swinging at a piñata. From the start, it was clear he wasn’t retaining any of the information thrown his way; he was just biding his time, waiting for his turn to talk. Honestly, those are the worst calls-like listening to someone who thinks they’re in a debate but is really just shouting into the void.
Caller Jimmy performs some gold medal, Nadia Comaneci level mental gymnastics to avoid personally addressing any of the obvious contradictions in his bible. I guess they all do for that matter... And it never ceases to amaze me how they just can't wrap their heads around the fact that their version of their religion means as much to non-believers as other religions and beliefs mean to them (zero). It's laughable.

I love these kinds of callers. They see their viewpoints as ABSOLUTE TRUTH & nothing changes their mind. They just spew their meta BS & think God is smiling at them for it.
It's more than scary because the truth is that its made to believe, forced, and indoctrinated!! To believe in just anything that anyone tells you without proof or evidence is foolish. I can go tell lies and have a crowd of my own followers, but the beliefs of my lies are based on non-facts. Then I had made a mess of theology, logic, reason, and plain out truth!
What if the first page of the bible read; "This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental."
One of my favorite sayings is: "I would rather have a mind open in wonder than a mind closed by belief." I don't remember who said it, but it's an accurate description of my mindset.
My best friend is a Christian who is one of the smartest, nicest people I know. We can talk (and have talked) about more topics than I could easily count. I don't know why so many of the other Christians seem to have lost the basic ability to listen to another person's perspective. If Jesus Christ is real and is watching this show, my guess is that he is extremely disappointed in every single one of these Christian callers who are completely unwilling to make even the tiniest attempt to understand a different perspective from their own. I want to add a few words to what secular rarity said about "talking to your pastor". Because I grew up religious, and i talked to my pastor so many times. So many times I "doubted my salvation", because I couldn't be sure that any of it was real. I spent nights crying and praying for god to show himself and prove that he existed. Because everyone around me was so sure, but I wasn't. I "got saved" 4-5 times, even getting baptized twice. And yet, I'm an atheist, because god never showed up.

@D-1-V-A Since your statement assumes a god actually exists & can perform miracles to convince me, the answer is yes in this ridiculous hypothetical. I really appreciate this conversation. Being someone who grew up in an extremely religious household, it took me a long time to have the courage to start thinking for myself and questioning my faith. It’s not something I did overnight. It was something that I put a lot of thought into, speaking with my parents as well as spiritual leaders. They couldn’t provide the answers I was looking for. All they could say was “trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”. To me, all that meant was that it was sinful to seek my own answers and that God wants me to remain stupid and thoughtless. I didn’t wake up one morning and decide that I just wanted to go out and start sinning.

@nealjroberts4050 Your little talk with Queefee, Blarg, and Ook, about some of your contradictory beliefs had you considering full blown atheism. When will you just admit you're an atheist?
Can someone help me understand what JM is referring to when he says, "Stop with the meta..."? I understand what he's pointing to that he doesn't like, but why is he referring to it as meta?
Metafiction is the idea that we are all side characters in the fiction that we read. Jimmy accusing the hosts of "living in rebellion" is tantamount to quoting Psalms 14, as though they were living in that culture.
Isn't it slang for a popular argument or talking point? I think it was a video gaming thing first, maybe? I'm sorry I couldn't be specific. I've heard the phrase elsewhere, but I'm not privvy to the full context.
Jimmy’s beliefs and claims are the actual conversation. Discussing the behaviour of the hosts does not address the core conversation, it would mean having a conversation about having conversations. It’s a metaconversation and in JM’s view it’s not worth having.
"Meta" in this context is referring to psycho-analyzing someone and pretending you know their mental states, motives, etc. Think of the difference between physics and metaphysics.
It's practically guaranteed that all of that went completely over his head, except for the bits that went in one ear and out the other like a neutrino, without interacting with anything going on in there. And no, that's not an insult, but an observation.
There are over 550 of direct contradictions in that horrible immoral book. Theists can try to make some excuses but that' can't change that fact. 🙂Word of god... sure. 😂
The Bible itself tells you it isn't the word of God. John 1 says the word of God is Christ. The Bible is just a reference. The people who claim it for their own TRUE CHRISTIAN interpretation are claiming to speak for God or supreme authority and they're making it a graven image. Like it or not you're using a physical object to tell people how they perceive reality. And that's nothing different than what various Christian denominations do to gaslight their opposition in hopes of getting them to convert to their particular cult of dogmas and behaviors. We may say _"it is written and this is how I see it"._ If others wish to view it another way we allow them to have that. This humbles us before God as we render to Cesar what belongs to Cesar.
@@Atreyu-81 That's maybe true bible tells that but obviously many believers don't know that. I would say overwhelming majority of Christians never actually read their holy book.
@@Atreyu-81 2 Tim 3 16 says" "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.…"

Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God? If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way. For the Scriptures tell us, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it: “Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.”
That shit's all post-hoc. You have no way of knowing that "Abraham" ever existed. There's more evidence for King Arthur and equivalent evidence for the Norse pantheon, compared to Abraham. You might as well be skritching gibberish on the cave walls.

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.
Hey Forest, think about this concerning a "soul". So as you know when people die there's usually a funeral or memorial, and people get a chance to present they're impression of the "dearly departed". In my mind that IS the soul. It's what others think and share with other people, it's not an indescribable energy that floats to heaven or hell. Its the impressions you left with people in your life, and how they will remember you. That's it, nothing more.

The question "What happens to me when I die?" is absurd, because there is no "I" in being dead. That is what Death means, that the illusion of an "I" ceases.
It is like asking where a blown out flame goes when you blow it out, or where the "running" goes when you stop running.

The worst contradiction is parts of the Bible conflict with the doctrine of Original Sin, for example Ezekiel 18:20 states "The one who sins is the one who will die.

That's what it boils down to in pretty much every conversation I've ever had with theists. Their experience typically starts with the presupposition that god is real and then the rest is built on top of that. They never took the time to analyze why they believe god is real at the beginning and once they believe they become too scared to start pulling at threads.

It makes me laugh every time they threaten he'll. When have you ever been convinced of anything by being threatened? If I said, "Believe the sky is green or ill punch you in the neck", you may say the words to avoid the punch but you wouldn't be convinced.
This is a great show and I'm glad to find this.
14:06 imagine you are thinking of doing something but you aren't sure if it is a crime or not, you don't just ask anyone, you ask a cop, a lawyer of a judge if you know one, you ask to people that have some kind of knowledge in the matter, not someone that might be having the same question as you but someone that has the answer or something close to it, now don't just ask one person but ask a few people and gather the information and sift it through your point/s and then you may end up into some sort of adequate conclusion but that is just how I do things, you don't have to do what I do.
I've heard a number of Jimmy's calls before, both on this channel and elsewhere, and he never brings _anything_ useful to the discussion. He just arrogantly asserts things about the hosts minds and lives, and when he inevitably gets rinsed by the aforementioned hosts, he resorts to that classic bit of IRL shitproselytizing involving impotent threats of damnation and hellfire. I'm not convinced Jimmy can even conceive of the notion that somebody isn't aware of, or sincerely doesn't believe in, his favourite space wizard character. Nobody should give Jimmy the time of day, let alone offer him a single crumb of serious consideration, because Jimmy isn't a serious person. Jimmy is a joke.
If any Christians happen to read this - you lot can put the "wHaT iF yOu'Re wRoNg" shtick on the backburner. Whilst I wouldn't deign to speak for every atheist, lifelong or post-theist, I can tell you that I'm not personally convinced (or intimidated) by something I don't believe in. You might as well tell me that a wendigo is coming to slap my arse, for all the good of threatening me with hell is doing for your cause.
Fair.
A good friend of mine (during a friendly conjectural conversation) asked me, "Well, just for the sake of argument, what if Christianity and the Bible are true?"
I immediately said, "By that reasoning, you should spend every waking minute trying to follow as many religions as you possibly can... just in case."
It was one of the few times in my life that I had a great response that came to me immediately.
By the way, my friend asked me simply as a way of raising an interesting question. It was not an aggressive challenge, like you will sometimes get from unconstructive apologists.
Every time he responds I just get that scene from doctor who of the master saying "this is the face of someone who wasn't listening to a word you just said." Cause they clearly haven't paid any attention to what they're being told.

Oh wow. A 'dream team' of hosts!
The one point these believers never seem to see or admit, (though you guys touched on) is most never 'reasoned' their way into whatever it is, they were taught it as a child. By family and culture all around them. So it is really hard for them to reason their way out. Plus, I'd bet 90+% who say they believe the whole book, bible or whichever, haven't actually read it from cover to cover! As Jimmy the caller says, they 'go ask the pastor". This episode is classic. It includes so many cool citable sentences from the hosts.
Master class on Forest’s part during the last half of the segment. I’m an outlier when it comes to atheism. I am closer to the “right” when it comes to political views.
Forest articulates the process of the mental gymnastics people are performing in order to come to their conclusion. Simple stuff…unless you have been disillusioned into believing doctrine.

* CHALLENGE FOR CHRISTIAN PREACHERS *
To demonstrate that you are preaching truly and not falsely please answer these 3 simple questions:
1) Does 2 Timothy 4 allow preachers to be dishonest?
2) Should you understand your audience as part of you preparation in order to be effective?
3) If quoting scripture has been shown to be ineffective, counterproductive even, why continue to use it?
Many thanks to the brave honest Christian preachers who answer.
Edit: Note that any silly cowardly dishonest responses will be dismissed or ignored as necessary.
That's a good question. Why are you using scripture to defend your agnostic pantheist, sapient gods, who could be of extremely advanced alien civilization consciousness? Can they communicate with people? Why wouldn't they? You may not have knowledge of them. "I just want to believe, Skully!", said agent Mulder. 😂
@Apotheosis-81
Your reply demonstrates that you're not a brave honest Christian preacher.
@nealjroberts4050 What kind, a true Christian preacher?
I’m back,
First of all, happy new year to you and your family. You’ll probably ignore this, but oh well..
Secondly, thank you for referring to me as a brave preacher because I’ve already explained 2 Tim. 4 to you numerous times.
Thirdly, 2 Timothy 4:3-4 explicitly describes those with “itchy ears” who reject the TRUTH OF GOD‘S WORD & readily believe myths, ending up with delusions, such as atheism, pantheism, agnosticism, etc. …
You can call yourself a “theist” all day long, but it doesn’t change the FACT that you DENY a personal, loving, intelligent, & interactive Creator who created & designed ALL things.
…And you know I’m right!
Enjoy your day, nuff said 💪
@nealjroberts4050 Your little talk with Queefee, Blarg, and Ook, about some of your contradictory beliefs had you considering full blown atheism. When will you just admit you're an atheist?
The one question that should not need to be asked again on this show.
This!
@@Atreyu-81 2 Tim 3 16 says" "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.…"
@@wwlib5390 And you're right. It isn't lying. God is not the author of confusion, so our interpretation shouldn't be contradictory, as it is written, the word of God is not subject to private interpretation.
@@SeticzechMy interpretations of Scripture may be wrong. All I may say is that it is written and this is how I see it. I have made the mistake of pretending my interpretation of the Bible speaks for God and found out later that I was wrong. That is when I understood what is meant by rendering the collective object to Cesar and the individual subject to God.

It's not a great look.
@@naktaal yea…. Because Jimmy wasnt saying anything/ not answering the the question being asked. They have every right to interrupt him
@@white_isnt_a_race2338 I fully understanding interrupting him in those instances, but there were times where he barely got a word out before he was interrupted. He also was interrupted immediately at times because one of the other hosts wanted to pile onto what another host said. Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God? If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way.
For the Scriptures tell us, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.”
When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it:
“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight.
Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.”

Where is your evidence that your god exists? Or even evidence that ANY god exists.
The dumbest question. If you’re asking that you need to look internally because the better question is why do I believe in nonsense?
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment.
