  • While Apple Macbook Pro with M1 Max silicon comes with 140W charger in the box, it always uses much less power. While using iStat menus, I noticed that usual watt usage is so low (around 7-10watts with lid closed and external monitor connected), that I thought I will give a try. I did get Apple 35W Dual USB-C Charger for my daily use and see how it goes. Apple Store representative reminded me that I will not get a refund if my tests will fail, haha.
Basically with my usual daily use I had absolutely not issues - 35W was more than enough to power and charge my Macbook Pro 16. Charge was obviously slower than with more powerful charger, but slow charge I see as a benefit, as slow charging wares battery less, because of less heat is produced when charging. I thought I will add some additional scenarios for test purposes and share this online, as I was not able to find such test scenarios online.
I did use some generic apps for running in the background, as well some more heavy uses like Parallel Desktop with Windows 10 and Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition running. I also did run some short video exports using Final Cut Pro X. All cases I did test with lid open and closed, as you might guess, 16 inc screen is using quite a bit of power, especially when you compare it to super efficient Apple Silicon processor on very well (from power efficiency point of view) designed system.

Please accept my apologies for the mistake of Windows version used in this video. This is actually Windows 11 (arm version), but it was installed on VM called Win10. I was so focused on the content, that missed this obvious thing.
