New York City Hoods - The South Bronx - Worst Section of the Worst Borough
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 авг 2023
- Today we are in the Bronx New York, and not just any part of the Bronx but the infamous South Bronx which is the poorest section of the poorest borough in New York City. By poor we mean the highest percentage of the population living below the poverty level. 30% of Bronx residents live below the poverty level but that number swells to 37% in the South Bronx.
Violence and crime goes hand in hand with poverty and there is no exception in the Bronx. The Bronx is the most violent borough in New York City. The rate of violent crime in the Bronx is almost twice of Brooklyn and Manhattan (which includes Harlem) and nearly three times that of Queens and Staten Island.
You'll notice in this video that The Bronx of today isn't anything like that of the 1970's/1980's when the South Bronx was an urban wasteland. Long gone are the days of vacant lots, and abandoned buildings as far as the eye can see. Gentrification efforts have been ramping up but the same problems of living in urban America persist. What does the future hold for this part of the city? Does it continue to gentrify or revert back to the slums of the 1970's like in the Charles Bronson movies? Also what do you think of this area? Livable or Miserable? Please let us know in the comments!

Bronx looks nice compared to your video on Kensington, Philly. That was godawful.
Yes, I just finished watching that one and thought the exact same thing
I'm a Brit and totally engrossed in these videos..we've got some quite grim places over here too mind.. especially what we call council estates..not all of them but a lot.
Yeah I am in London quite often for work and don't even start with how bad we got it over here. London dangerous af at night. First thing I was told is to not wear the watch I had on at a meeting if I went out that evening. I was like damn, these brits crazy. @@fatty3383
Different kinds of places
Lol that’s Kensington…. Tf..
Doesn't look too bad
I agree
People give the Bronx so much shit and I think its really unfair to the BX. I DO understand why so many people have the view of the BX that they do and its certainly rough in areas of the Bronx. In fact, there's parts of the Bronx I try to avoid altogether but my aunt lives in Morissiana and I have no choice but to go visit her.
What I'm trying to say is that the Bronx also has some BEAUTIFUL areas that I think get really overlooked. And people forget so much of the popular culture and some of the most influential people come from the Bronx (Edgar Allen Poe (had residency here), Stan Lee (Creator of Marvel), Hagan Daz ice cream, Ralph Lauren, Hip-hop and doo wop is from the Bronx, just to name a few).
Either way, I enjoy your videos!
Amazing video from some areas that we normally don’t see ! Will follow from now on
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you and welcome!
@@ghettomerica thank you ! Have a good one
this is great video! thank you my friend, see you in Bali
Thank you my friend. See you there!
I love the videos.
Very interesting videos.. I'm hooked on them..the ones where you went through Kensington phil..that looked so depressing..we have our share of places here in the uk that are quite grim..and subscribed good content 👍
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching and subscribing! Cheers
@@ghettomerica why do you drive through peoples neighborhoods video taping people, are you the police or something, is this amusing to you? What’s really wrong with you?
When I pass through Webster projects at night they always have at least 20 -30 people outside each building it’s crazy. It’s like the 90s when everyone was outside , They are deep .
Fire video 🔥 Good visuals
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed.
Looks nicer than 90% of Mexico City and better than the worst of London and Paris
Not that bad for a hood. Looks like normal people doing normal things.
It’s horrible
Well a lot has to do with how the video is shot & the audio….if you was actually there driving in a car it would have a different feel to it, I’m personally working on starting a driving channel myself but I’ve been studying driving videos & practicing a lot….I erased all the driving videos I’ve done the last 4 months because I want to do something different & offer a more realistic viewing experience for the viewers.
Don't let the good looks fool you, you're quick to get piped down or your cheeks clapped in the BX if you don't move right.

As you say it looks nothing like it did in the 80s. I live off Fordham Road in 86 and going through the South Bronx was apocalyptic. I remember the boarded windows with happy family images painted on the boards, giving an creepy bitter irony as they ghosted the South Bronx with images of a happy past. What I’m seeing now looks gorgeous in contrast, notwithstanding the current issues you mention. Thank you, this video gives me great joy to see the life affirming efforts of the human spirit being rewarded. Amazing what communities can do when they are United in a cause to change their environment in partnership with good caring governance. In contrast the damage being done by neo liberalism is destroying communities the world over. I spent 30 years living in the UK and left in 2022 and saw a great community based country go down the sewer rapidly to become impoverished especially outside the London region. Very sad indeed.
Your definitely right about the UK..once upon a time communities did stick together and has steadily declined.. probably been that way since the end of the 90s...it be interesting to know what the run down places were like before it became like it is and what year it changed.
Riding the num 5 el in the 60s through the simpson, freeman, intervals, propect, jackson stops featured entire devastation right there quite viewable
@@fatty3383 I’d say it pivoted with Thatcher’s arrival. Her coming spelt the end of a great age of UK being as cohesive a society as it ever came to be.
I live in lancaster pa 2 hours from the city a bunch of folks have moved down here from the bronx to Allentown reading harrisburg lebanon york all the towns in between
1675 Vyse Ave. was the building I come from. It turned into the epitome of urban dystopian crime and poverty, burnt down to the ground.
Thanks for sharing! Thank you for watching!
I didn't know NYCHA had so munch property lots of projects
Nice drive, if you shoot the video in 4k@60fps it would eliminate a lot of the motion blur from panning etc….
Washington heights, Harlem were 2rotten apples 🍎 🍎 thanks to Giuliani today Manhattan is apparently 😊clean up.
lets goooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My bro! Let me know anywhere you wanna see next!
This is nothing compared to the 80s Bronx & all of NYC is walk in the park compared to the 80s when the Bronx was literally on fire burning 🔥
Yes it was way worse in the 80s I remember when I was seven and going to visit my aunt in the Bronx every corner was just burned rubble of buildings and kids used to play on those heaps of ash 😮
80s Bronx was a walk in Disneyland compared to Bronx in 78/79.
@@universalconquest4447 78/79 the Bronx was still the same in the early 80s 🙄
Nonsense. I lived there. It was nice then and it's nice now. Don't believe the Hollywood propaganda.
Even this awful neighborhood doesnt look anywhere nearly as bad as whole areas in Philly, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit or fifty other US cities. NY slums look a lot better.
I put in as well as repaired customers cable when I worked for Verizon all around the Bronx, worked out of Jerome Ave garage as an Escort...😮
If this is the worst of the worst of New York City then New York is in a lot better shape than many other cities.
Oh snap. Just seen myself in your video
People are just not made to be warehoused and stacked on top of each other. That would drive me nuts living in a city like NY.
I wish people would stop getting on social media with there tainted tongues nobody is twisting your arm if you can't handle it than stay the hell out and shut up there millions of people that don't think like you or is such a coward.and most of all this is not only there is of new York there are other beautiful sections that will make u eat your words new York is not thinking about u there going on with there lives and enjoying it bump u
San Francisco is the same but smaller
@@melflynt8997 a whole lot smaller, but I like it
You mean like in skyscrapers the rich live on all over the world? Stacked on top of each other... nah, it's a lot, a lot more complicated than that.
@@richardalexander1036 well there's nothing we can do about it, I'm trying to keep my sanity, than to be worrying about what's going In this sick and troubled world we live in god is what's important
yea it doesn't look that bad now cuz it's daytime. come thru at night. different story. different people😂😂
I used to take the train from Brooklyn just to punk you BX kids at night in your own neighborhoods. I would give you guys weggies, ask about Dirty Mike from Bedstuy.
Whatever they ain't god🙄🥱
Much better than Kensington, Pa.
the age of muscle cars is over
Gotta go down south for that bro😅
I noticed a lack of them when I lived in Cleveland and a shit ton of them down here in Arizona

Just wall it up and if we need something inside we'll send Snake Plisken
You know nothing. I live in the Bronx and this is a wonderful area. Did you see one speck of litter on the ground? You are slandering people you know nothing about.
Are you sure that this is the worst of the worst? Seems nice and normal in comparison to Kensington…Philly
Look nice to you but come here in night time you see it if is nice for you.
Take me there to yourself, I will clean the streets
If I was Puerto Rican I would love to live here.
I’m white and I’d love to live here

I visited the south bronx on my birthday
New york city beautiful but if they would get rid of those eyesores those public houses it sure would be much prettier, they should of been torn down long time ago
These are functioning neighborhood's, much worse back in the 60s was the stretch of freeman, Simpson, prospect and intervale along the Westchester and southern blvds el corridor.
I lived on simpson and 167 and on intervale closer to Westchester from the mid 90s to like 2004..good old memories chilling with the kids on the block. No place like home!
146 Willisave ya heard
Some here are quick to condemn and denigrate what looks like a relatively clean part of the Bronx; however, the neighborhoods portrayed here are infinitely cleaner and healthier that the areas of squalor, crime and filth earlier Italian, Jewish and Irish immigrants had to live in upon arrival to "the land of the free and the hone of brave"!!!
SHOW THE STREET SIGNS OK T Y
Doesn't look to bad there are much worse parts of the USA like Kensington,Baltimore,Gary,Camden,St Louis etc
