was flying from LA to Calgary and ended up sitting beside wolf. Didnt know the guy or what he did. We talked for 2 hours and he never even mentioned he was in the NHL. After i saw him one day online i was shocked lol. Hes the reason i now watch the NHL and the flames even tho im from cali
That’s amazing. Great to hear how humble he is… We’ve had our fair share of Americans leave a bad taste in the mouths of Flames fan (public enemy no. 1= Adam fox, but Tkachuk, and Hanifin too.. Don’t get me wrong we’ve coveted all our players through out the years, but occasionally we draft someone that refuses to play in our beloved market, or hamstring us by declaring where they want to be traded therefore sewering their trade value towards other teams)
You missed out he was also the league mvp his 2nd time winning golatender of the year in the A ...which shouldnt be understated...very impressive for a guy that young and a goalie of all things
Also, would have won a 3rd MVP in the A, if he wasn’t taken outta the league (promoted as they say 😂) to the NHL for so many games, causing him to miss so much of the season
Dustin Wolf!! I'm so glad that he's doing well so far. A young goalie's confidence can be destroyed with a bad start. I don't want to say 'calder contender' yet, there are still 60-odd games to play, but if he keeps it up, then just maybe. Side note, Wolf really, really reminds me of Mike Vernon in the 80s (not his catastrophic first season, either). They have a similar style, probably because they're more or less the same height/weight.
Osgood cujo Tim Tomas Mike richter grant fhur some of the best were 511 their just picking taller goalie to fill the net some of the best athletic goalies with their own styles were shorter. I’m also 511 3/4 lol why I defend them.
If you actually watch this guy play you can see he's special in a lot of ways. The fundamentals of his movement and positioning are some of the best I've ever seen and then he also reads and anticipates better than practically any other goalie in the league. Those things together allow him to play at this level at his size because he's so precise.
Height, while advantageous, is relatively unimportant if a goaltender can't block the puck. I also feel like folks who are at a relative disadvantage generally have better work ethic as they have to work harder to operate at a similar level compared to their taller counterparts.
He’ll face the same problem all small goalies face as they age… as the athletics diminish (even slightly) as they get older you can’t replace size. (I say this as the father of a really good young smaller goalie.)
Jonathan quick is almost 40 and still a very good goaltender, same height and playstyle. Shesterkin is just a couple centimeters taller and is arguably the best goalie in the world. Saros is shorter and a top 5 goalie in the world. Size is important but also overrated in goaltending, and athletes can still perform very well into their mid 30s.
@ that’s 3 of the 221 goalies who have played in the NHL the last 10 years (just over 1%)… with only 2 being top 20 in SV% and 1 in GAA. The leaders are all 6’2”+. (PS - Saros is already falling off.)
The minute you crown him he let's you down. He is a product of a team playing tight defensive hockey. So obviously his numbers are going to look amazing but I doubt he will ever be a franchise goalie. And IF he is one the calgary flames will waste his prime years staying in the mushy middle with no superstar in the system, no #1 centre and no game breakers. Always destined to be mediocre.
Us Flames fans have been excited about him for a while. I'm happy to see he's starting to get the recognition he deserves!
As a sharks fan I loved him in Stockton

It’s still early but it looks like the Flames drafted a gem in round 7!
He moves like a cat which outweighs any height disadvantage he may have.
He is really fun to watch.
Nothing beats when he jumps. Awesome seeing him do well.

Nailed it, dude! Just found your channel today.. Keep making these 🐺 updates, and I’ll be sure to keep watching 😜

As an Oilers fan I’ve been keeping up with Wolf for a while wondering why the Flames hadn’t put him in net sooner
Jose Theodore, Mike Vernon, Jussi Sarros, Kipper all undersized
Looking forward to Kipper making it into the HHoF. Maybe Wolf will follow his and Vernons steps :)

5'11" : quite tall in everyday life, smallish as a forward, small as a dman, a dwarf as a goalie.
Goated

Reminds me of a young Lundqvist.
No more 7 footers in the net?
As a kings fan I wish we got him so he can be at home 😭😭
Be quiet
No quick 2.0 for you hahah
Gilroy is much closer to San Jose. But I can understand, he’s looking amazing this year. A boon for any team
he would proabably play a similar game to Juuse Saros
He does. But he also plays like Kiper

Not carrying yall to a cup. Maybe in 2-3 seasons. But its too early to celebrate now
