A fan of hockey and the NHL talking about hockey and the NHL.
The Goalie That Could Change The Game
Dustin Wolf has been one of the best goalies in the NHL to start the 2024-25 season. Despite only being a rookie, Wolf has overcome a lot in his career thus far. As a 7th round NHL draft pick, the odds for him to make it even close to the NHL were always a longshot. Today, Wolf is a safe bet to challenge for the Calder Trophy, and, continuing at this pace, could even have a shot at the Vezina Trophy. So, let's take a look at the rise of Dustin Wolf, and how his ability and playstyle could potentially lead to a complete reevaluation of how teams and scouts view goalies in the draft.

The Tampa Bay Lightning: Life Without Stamkos
Просмотров 50514 дней назад
Steven Stamkos leaving Tampa Bay was probably the most significant news of the 2024 NHL offseason. Departing to the Nashville Predators, Stamkos left behind over 500 goals and 1000 points as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Now ~20 games into the new NHL season, we can see how that change has impacted Stamkos, Tampa Bay, and Nashville, as all three struggle to push further forwards towards ...

What Does The Future Look Like For Columbus?
Height, while advantageous, is relatively unimportant if a goaltender can't block the puck. I also feel like folks who are at a relative disadvantage generally have better work ethic as they have to work harder to operate at a similar level compared to their taller counterparts.
Not carrying yall to a cup. Maybe in 2-3 seasons. But its too early to celebrate now
He could but he don’t 🤡
Reminds me of a young Lundqvist.
If you actually watch this guy play you can see he's special in a lot of ways. The fundamentals of his movement and positioning are some of the best I've ever seen and then he also reads and anticipates better than practically any other goalie in the league. Those things together allow him to play at this level at his size because he's so precise.
As an Oilers fan I’ve been keeping up with Wolf for a while wondering why the Flames hadn’t put him in net sooner
Nailed it, dude! Just found your channel today.. Keep making these 🐺 updates, and I’ll be sure to keep watching 😜
Dustin Wolf!! I'm so glad that he's doing well so far. A young goalie's confidence can be destroyed with a bad start. I don't want to say 'calder contender' yet, there are still 60-odd games to play, but if he keeps it up, then just maybe. Side note, Wolf really, really reminds me of Mike Vernon in the 80s (not his catastrophic first season, either). They have a similar style, probably because they're more or less the same height/weight.
The minute you crown him he let's you down. He is a product of a team playing tight defensive hockey. So obviously his numbers are going to look amazing but I doubt he will ever be a franchise goalie. And IF he is one the calgary flames will waste his prime years staying in the mushy middle with no superstar in the system, no #1 centre and no game breakers. Always destined to be mediocre.
You missed out he was also the league mvp his 2nd time winning golatender of the year in the A ...which shouldnt be understated...very impressive for a guy that young and a goalie of all things
Also, would have won a 3rd MVP in the A, if he wasn’t taken outta the league (promoted as they say 😂) to the NHL for so many games, causing him to miss so much of the season
5'11" : quite tall in everyday life, smallish as a forward, small as a dman, a dwarf as a goalie.
was flying from LA to Calgary and ended up sitting beside wolf. Didnt know the guy or what he did. We talked for 2 hours and he never even mentioned he was in the NHL. After i saw him one day online i was shocked lol. Hes the reason i now watch the NHL and the flames even tho im from cali
Oh thats awesome :)
That’s amazing. Great to hear how humble he is… We’ve had our fair share of Americans leave a bad taste in the mouths of Flames fan (public enemy no. 1= Adam fox, but Tkachuk, and Hanifin too.. Don’t get me wrong we’ve coveted all our players through out the years, but occasionally we draft someone that refuses to play in our beloved market, or hamstring us by declaring where they want to be traded therefore sewering their trade value towards other teams)
Jose Theodore, Mike Vernon, Jussi Sarros, Kipper all undersized
Looking forward to Kipper making it into the HHoF. Maybe Wolf will follow his and Vernons steps :)
Osgood cujo Tim Tomas Mike richter grant fhur some of the best were 511 their just picking taller goalie to fill the net some of the best athletic goalies with their own styles were shorter. I’m also 511 3/4 lol why I defend them.
No more 7 footers in the net?
Us Flames fans have been excited about him for a while. I'm happy to see he's starting to get the recognition he deserves!
As a sharks fan I loved him in Stockton
It’s still early but it looks like the Flames drafted a gem in round 7!
Wolfie
He’ll face the same problem all small goalies face as they age… as the athletics diminish (even slightly) as they get older you can’t replace size. (I say this as the father of a really good young smaller goalie.)
Jonathan quick is almost 40 and still a very good goaltender, same height and playstyle. Shesterkin is just a couple centimeters taller and is arguably the best goalie in the world. Saros is shorter and a top 5 goalie in the world. Size is important but also overrated in goaltending, and athletes can still perform very well into their mid 30s.
@ that’s 3 of the 221 goalies who have played in the NHL the last 10 years (just over 1%)… with only 2 being top 20 in SV% and 1 in GAA. The leaders are all 6’2”+. (PS - Saros is already falling off.)
As a kings fan I wish we got him so he can be at home 😭😭
Be quiet
No quick 2.0 for you hahah
Gilroy is much closer to San Jose. But I can understand, he’s looking amazing this year. A boon for any team
Goated
He moves like a cat which outweighs any height disadvantage he may have. He is really fun to watch.
Nothing beats when he jumps. Awesome seeing him do well.
he would proabably play a similar game to Juuse Saros
He does. But he also plays like Kiper
this surely has been a touchy subject. Here is how i see it. I am not even a tampa fan too btw. We all thought he would play his entire career with one team that team being the bolts and even people like jon cooper said he should and guys around the league like mcdavid as well. Ofc stammer himself wanted to as well and was willing to take quite the discount to do so (until he understandably was too tempted by nashville's offer) after lightning management didn't make enough of an effort themselves. I mean this is a guy who basically single handedly resurrected the lightning in their darkest time and made them into the world class organization since 2008 and captained them into a dynasty like timespan of dominance between 2015-2022. He was right up there with guys like ovi and crosby as the alpha dog of their generational and while he might not be as dominant individually as he was in the 2010s he is still going pretty strong today. Ofc he's one of the most gifted goal scorers ever but he's also one of the best captains ever and he has made so many players around him better as they built around him as the years went on. He also gave every fiber of his being not jsut too the team but the city of tampa. Back to on ice performance even after a couple significant injuries like the broken leg or busted knee he somehow managed to pick up where he left off when most people who are in those positions aren't ever the same again. While I was really hopeful he'd stay in tampa given that they will likely never see a player of his caliber again, i understand if the lightning front office felt differently I just wish they had made a better effort at communicating that to him rather than give one offer than make no further effort whatsoever knowing he'd hesitate at accepting it. Either throw more offers out there like 3 yrs for $4 million, 4 years $4-4.5 million or something like that since he was willing to take a big pay cut and ofc the term not being too long or short or simply say we gotta prioritize the teams long term potential. I am sure he would've been very appreciative to hear either the effort being put in if it meant throwing more offers out or the transparency if they want to go in a different direction. Sorry for long rant lol just a lot to reflect on.
So excited for the future
i know winning a cup is a long shot but i sure hope the caps get a top 6 seed and at then get to at least the 2nd round in the playoffs.
They will be rewarded for trying to win I hope
You have got to really piss a guy off who only has 35 penalty minutes for an entire season, to fight. And he's a 15+ min a game guy.
Cowan isn’t making the leafs
Haltunnen is a poor man's Cole Eisermann. Great shot but nothing else. But he has the body type to compete physically in the NHL. So I think its mostly a matter of hard work and changing his mindset.
QUESTION ~~~~ WHY was his hockey career so SHORT >> opinions ???
❤ ruclips.net/video/seVM5XBXaYc/видео.htmlfeature=shared
my video explains exactly who will win. no debate necessary.
Cutter and will smith are rivals? They were both on bc and are known friends
For a good period of time the Sharks were an absolutely terrifying team to see your team play against. They were stacked from the 1st line down to the primary goalie and they still couldn’t get it done. At one point SJ’s team was as stacked as 2012-2014 LA Kings and still just couldn’t do it. Hell at one point, all three California teams were top cup contenders, now they are all shells of what they use to be.
Hutson was too good for College. The only guy that understood where to be on the ice was Celebrini. Hutson already used to playing with men in College but now he will have actual talent around him. Lane will be even better in the nhl.
im excited as a flyers fan
Michkov is going to be so fun to watch
Heard Will Smith is slap happy !
Go Stars Go!
Celebrini is so damn good defensively too wow
Just need a solid defensive defenseman and one more high end winger. Free agency might be enough though.
The sharks have to have the most amount of elite prospects all on the same timeline for breaking out and getting pro development, insane
All of a sudden they’re better than any other franchise in the long term??!! From that point on I knew this video was trash…
It's not all of a sudden tho. We've been trash for like 9 years but we've have had great drafts the last 3 years after collecting multiple picks for the top 3 rounds. You haven't been paying attention and I don't blame you but it's def not all of a sudden. We still have defense to patch up but our prospects have been dominating and have been consistent with that type of play. The timeline for them all to be NHL ready will be at the same time too.
Luca cagnoni
This guy thinks one possibly good young D man in the system makes them better than 10 other teams that have been rebuilding just as long as the sharks. The complete disregard for defense by Grier should be reason alone to fire him. But California is going to California. The Sharks still have a very long dark road ahead of them. Celebrini is also a RNH clone so don’t get too excited.
They have DEPTH bruh that's why they're future is good. 0/10 rage bait btw, nice try tho
@@ryohayden69 they don’t because you can’t even name guy. Vlasic is their top Dman and it’s 2024 and then it Thrun, Dickinson and that it. They are years away I can tell you are new to hockey and just looking for a team to call your own but San Jose isn’t it.
@@vernonhowell4070 been a sharks fan since 2007 and have supported them through hell and back, they have a decent defensive prospect pool. Big money Mike Greir said he isn't done with building defense, (that's why it's called a rebuild). But ya I'm the one who doesn't know hockey 😂
@@ryohayden69 again can’t name one though.
Smith and Celebrini are gonna be the new Toews and Kane
i bet in their prime as well they will be 80-90 point players mack being a great 2 way like toews. wont ask for stupid money like mcdavid and drai and san jose will be able to build a deep team for playoff runs

As a lifelong Sharks fan, there is nowhere to go but up from here. The future is teal, but there's still so much that could go wrong. People (including myself) have called SJ a future dynasty. The 2010s Sharks were supposed to be dynasties too.
Crazy how 2 great drafts in a row can change a franchise's future
not even trying to be a hater but nither of them have played a game yet
