Thanks for this! I too like Stock on the H because of Vertical Arcade Mode, and it's nice to hear someone else praising it. Playing the classic shooters in the way they're intended is aces. The only thing missing for me in Stock is ColecoVision emulation. I hope Anbernic is reading this so they can add it. Batocera is slick, but until they have a dedicated Vertical Arcade option, I plan to stick with stock. And for those interested, Stock is lacking a Sega32x folder, but if you rename the suffix as .smd, they will play from the MD (MegaDrive) folder. I look forward to your next video. And just to confirm, the new March Plus OS will not work in the H?
Got Batocera V40 on my RG35XX+ and mine drains about 1.3% of battery an hour when completely off. Much better than empty over night, but still a little bit more than id like. But Batocera is deffo not that much tinkering for me, and I can recommend at least to check it out.
I recommend users check out all CFW and find what suits them for sure. Like I said Batocera will most likely be my go to after everything is ironed out. I just didn’t like the battery drain which was basically what made me come back to stock for now.

I see you're like me, you have a Steam Deck but you still like this little booger. I have the Plus, not the H, but it's just something about the form factor that just feels right. Plus I feel more comfortable carrying this around. I'm not as worried about damage or other loss, since this thing was very inexpensive and my Steam Deck with all the things I've done to it is worth at least $700. And this is all-around easier to pick up and play for quick sessions, it doesn't feel like an ordeal to get going. I have used Batocera before, on the Steam Deck actually, and it has a lot going for it, but I'm like you and want to keep this device as simple as possible. So thanks for the guide on how to update stock firmware. They have an even newer version as of my comment, from 04/09/2024.
Actually I don’t have the Steam Deck anymore I switched it up and picked up a Legion Go but yes I still use these devices. Like you said they are easy to travel with and lot less concerning when it comes to breaking or losing then our bigger more expensive devices. I love retro games and with ports coming to more and more softwares we are even starting to experience a little bit of pc games on these little things. It’s a great time to be alive. I recommend people give all the CFW’s a try and figure out what they like. 👍 muOS has some features that I like but Batocera is the CFW I look forward to most.

I wish someone would do a tutorial for formatting and flashing for MAC users . I got my plus two days ago and haven’t even used it because I don’t know how to install stock os onto mac without my sd card being destroyed

Hey sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I suggest 2 cards because then you avoid having to back up your saves and roms when updating your os. If you have a 2 card setup your saves and roms go on the second sd while your is is on the first.
Hey man followed this to a t formatted my card in ex fat and after flashing the updated os onto i cant access the device from my pc only the partition wizard
Is it possible to expand the OS partition when flashing the 16GB image to a 64GB card? I tried using both Windows disk manager and MiniTool Partition Wizard but was not able to for the life of me! This leaves me with 45GB of unallocated space on my single card. 😅
You assign a drive letter to the unallocated space using mini partition wizard. At that point you should be able to add your games. Sorry about the delay. I don’t know how I missed this comment.

Hey my friend. I’m glad you found me as well. The best part of these devices is reliving the past. Mario’s are definitely some of my favorite games. When your 64gb arrives today you will just open the package and take the sd card, put it into your card reader plugged into your laptop. At that’s point you will open up RUclips and head to my channel. Find this video and open the description. Click on the link for the rg35xx plus firmware and download it. I recommend the 16gb (does not come with games) but if you prefer the 64gb ( comes with games) then download that. Be advised the 64gb sometimes requires users to have a paid Mega account which is total b.s. but game roms are easy to find online if you get the 16gb. Follow my guide and any specific questions you have along the way just let me know.

@@tonyboombotz Yes, that new card will have to go into slot 1. Best of luck! Also, remember, the 16 GB file will not include any games, so you will have to source your own. But those are a google search away.

Mine keeps getting stuck on the boot screen it won't it won't load unless I reset it a few times and even then it's still doesn't work most of the time. I tried cloning the original SD card that it came with and it didnt work , it won't even boot up or power on with the new SD card after I transferred everything off the stock SD card to the new one. I've tried all these steps including your video and I still can't get it to turn on and boot up so I'm going to return it and hopefully the next one I get doesn't give me the same issue
Best is to not use anything from the stock SD card. Use a fresh SD card, flash the latest stock OS. I'm using 2 cards right now, 1 for OS, 1 for Roms. Runs well on my device now.
Great video. I think this works for the plus too bc I think the plus and h use the same software and games I heard. I downloaded koriki too and like a moron accidentally flashed it to the original sd card and deleted my anbernic stock os. So I think maybe this will help fix it. I had downloaded a bunch of roms myself eventually but it was a huge hassle and headache especially being a first timer.

Hello. First of all, I'd like to thank you for this video. This helped me a lot. But i wanna ask you if you or someone here had a little problems with the analogs ? For some reason, when i play fps games, the right analog is inverted. When i put up, the camera in the game goes down and when i put down, the camera goes up.
my xx pkus came last day i had hard time trying to switch on, i had already a samsung flashed with batocera and another with the stock os, but when i inserted the newer sds the console didnt start and when i sitcht to the stock sd it start but after several tries, then i started to play, and some games went stucked, the only that worked nice was dreamcast and psp, then i take off the sd card to add newer games, but now the console is complete dead, only the charguin led shows on, but it doesnt start up, i read some recomendations like unplugg the baterry and wait, then try again but nothing seems to work, any advice before i return it back? or i get a geniune lemon unit?
I can try it for you. I don’t personally use bezels with drastic as I like to flip between screens that are taking up the entirety of the screen. But I will try tomorrow.

My question is, can I use my old out of the box TF2 card now with my new card or do I have to update it too?

im dumb and new to this whole thing, but this video was extremely helpful and detailed. only problems im having now are when ever i load an n64 rom my buttons get all messed up with B becoming A in game and Y becoming B in game. also, how do you save if a game required a memory card on the n64?

Yeah I tried batocera and it looks pretty with all those theme. But I got the same battery issue. And I'm really starting to think stock OS is not that bad.😂 Like you maybe I'll check it out when it's out of beta/lite.

It may not have a drive letter assigned to it. If you leave it plugged into your computer and open Mini Tool partition wizard you should be able to assign a new drive letter to it. Hope this helps. ✌️
So you say anbernic software comes with all the bios we're gonna need? So that means even if we download the 16gb version we get all the bios we're gonna need? So the only difference with the 16gb and the 64gb is the roms? 16gb comes with out roms and 64gb comes with the roms? TIA. Just wanted to be clear. I'm looking to have a 2 card set up down the line.
That is correct 16gb has all the bios you need minus roms. I suggest a 2 card setup because if you want to update your firmware in the future you don’t have to worry about your roms or saves. ✌️

Hello my friend, I’m not sure I understand question 1. If you mean the card itself will perform worse then I’m not sure would affect gameplay or performance in any way. Question 2 I believe the 64 gb image has n64 games but I would have to get back to you in a few hours when I have my console in hand to give you a more accurate answer. Thank you ✌️

hello, very informative video. this was without any doubt the clearest and easiest explanation i could find on updating the os! my only question is, do the roms that come with the 64 gb firmware version download to the 2nd sd (tf2) when you first pop it in? i am waiting for this console to be shipped to me, and i do want to keep the extensive catalog of games it comes with because i want to find some "hidden gems." if the stock roms (tf1) transfer to my 2nd sd (tf2), will my save data forever be safe on the second one? i know the tf1 save files constantly will get wiped due to upcoming updates every so often, and i want to make sure the tf2 save files will be fine and not touched during updates. thank you.
Very good questions my friend. As for the 64gb os image it will come with games when you download it and those will be store on sd1 along side your os. As for the sd 2 that’s ships with the device it will be fine and still keep whatever games come on because when setting up sd one it will not be touch by the firmware. Now for the saves and save states I believe as long as you have an sd2 they will be housed there but I would like to test and make sure prior to giving you a definitive answer. i just want to clarify since two of them no files like new. Once you download the firmware there is already a preloaded games that comes with it? or no?
Thanks for the useful tutorial. However, I used a 128 GB SDCard for a single card setup and I am left with 105 GB of unallocated space. The total usable size of the SD card has become 4.2 GB. Any idea where did I go wrong?
If you are using stock OS than you will have alot of unallocated space with which you cant do anything with. You can use stock MOD3 rom which will expand the full card and use the full space for your Roms
I have found a solution for my scenario. I simply created another drive from the unallocated space using MiniTool Partition Wizard. So basically when I insert my SD Card into the PC, I see 2 drives now. In the first drive the OS resides and I have kept the games and files in the second drive. Working perfectly!
@@JLinfamous9 As mentioned earlier, you can use MiniTool Partition software to set up a new drive from the unallocated space on your SD card, effectively giving you two drives. When you insert the SD card into your RG35XX+ device, it will automatically create new folders on the second drive. You can then reinsert the SD card into your PC and transfer your games to this second drive, allowing you to utilize the full capacity of the SD card.
@@yoguichuknorrisrules You only need to expand the fat32(D:) partition, everything else can be left alone. Minitools Partition Wizard is a good program for this.

yes you can copy your games from the card that comes with the device in to the new sd card. In each folder for each system (i.e PS folder for playstation1) there should be a "Imgs" folder you need to copy this over to the new folder for the images to show up
Before formatting the SD 1 card, I did a backup , I was wondering if there is a way to import again your saves and favorites. Also .the game and the save of that game require to be on the same sd right? Thank you for the video!!

I've just got my RG35XX-H and I'm about to starting doing stuff. Quick question, EVERY time I do update the firmware I also have to move out roms & saves, and then move in the sd after flashing firmware?...
If you are moving between different update on stock and using a 2 sd card setup you should be able to use the second card with your roms and saves and avoid transferring the files. If you are moving between different os’s you will have to transfer the files most likely depending on the filing system type.
Yea if I remember you’ll have more than 1 saves folders if you’ve been playing different games on different systems. I just highlighted all the saves folders and copied them to a folder on my computer and after I was all done with doing everything. I deleted to newly appeared saves folder and copied back all my saves folders that I had. Games loaded up perfectly.
1 more thing I learned to late, but if you don't make an actual save state (using the small button on the top of the device) there won't be any files to transfer over when you copy your saves. So load your game data and make a save state. It'll show it saving on the bottom left of the screen when it does it. If you don't, your data saves to ?system memory or ram? or something but basically theirs no hard file, so it gets erased when you put a new card in or overwrite the old one. That's how I lost everything the first time.

Vertical arcade is definitely my favorite feature on stock. I have been in love with it since the first day I started using this device.

Maybe I can get it out to you this week. It’s basically the same process but you substitute Rufus with Balena Etcher. ✌️
Use disk utility to flash it and then I use applepi baker to get the OS on the card. I haven't had issues at all.

I would not install the plus software on the H. Just past the part that I show the plus I download, I show the H download.

Hey sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I suggest 2 cards because then you avoid having to back up your saves and roms when updating your os. If you have a 2 card setup your saves and roms go on the second sd while your is is on the first.

In mini tool partition wizard right click the sd card and assign a new drive letter. Let me know if that works✌️
Is it possible to expand the OS partition when flashing the 16GB image to a 64GB card? I tried using both Windows disk manager and MiniTool Partition Wizard but was not able to for the life of me! This leaves me with 45GB of unallocated space on my single card. 😅
You assign a drive letter to the unallocated space using mini partition wizard. At that point you should be able to add your games. Sorry about the delay. I don’t know how I missed this comment.

Man I’m 65 years old and I do have a laptop with win 10. But I am screwed. 😂 I got a rg35xxplus and want to be able to put Mario brothers games on it. Hey my friend. I’m glad you found me as well. The best part of these devices is reliving the past. Mario’s are definitely some of my favorite games. When your 64gb arrives today you will just open the package and take the sd card, put it into your card reader plugged into your laptop. At that’s point you will open up RUclips and head to my channel. Find this video and open the description. Click on the link for the rg35xx plus firmware and download it. I recommend the 16gb (does not come with games) but if you prefer the 64gb ( comes with games) then download that. Be advised the 64gb sometimes requires users to have a paid Mega account which is total b.s. but game roms are easy to find online if you get the 16gb. Follow my guide and any specific questions you have along the way just let me know.

i nearly wasted so much time on the 64GB file honestly
Mine keeps getting stuck on the boot screen it won't it won't load unless I reset it a few times and even then it's still doesn't work most of the time. I tried cloning the original SD card that it came with and it didnt work , it won't even boot up or power on with the new SD card after I transferred everything off the stock SD card to the new one. I've tried all these steps including your video and I still can't get it to turn on and boot up so I'm going to return it and hopefully the next one I get doesn't give me the same issue
Best is to not use anything from the stock SD card. Use a fresh SD card, flash the latest stock OS. I'm using 2 cards right now, 1 for OS, 1 for Roms. Runs well on my device now.
Great video. I think this works for the plus too bc I think the plus and h use the same software and games I heard.
I downloaded koriki too and like a moron accidentally flashed it to the original sd card and deleted my anbernic stock os. So I think maybe this will help fix it.
I had downloaded a bunch of roms myself eventually but it was a huge hassle and headache especially being a first timer.

For some reason, when i play fps games, the right analog is inverted. When i put up, the camera in the game goes down and when i put down, the camera goes up.

my xx pkus came last day i had hard time trying to switch on, i had already a samsung flashed with batocera and another with the stock os, but when i inserted the newer sds the console didnt start and when i sitcht to the stock sd it start but after several tries, then i started to play, and some games went stucked, the only that worked nice was dreamcast and psp, then i take off the sd card to add newer games, but now the console is complete dead, only the charguin led shows on, but it doesnt start up, i read some recomendations like unplugg the baterry and wait, then try again but nothing seems to work, any advice before i return it back? or i get a geniune lemon unit?

Yes the H has WiFi but No Anbernic does not offer over the air updates.

Rufus does do it but I’ve had issues with it in the past formatting the card correctly. I use MTPW as an added precaution. Thank you my friend. ✌️

im dumb and new to this whole thing, but this video was extremely helpful and detailed. only problems im having now are when ever i load an n64 rom my buttons get all messed up with B becoming A in game and Y becoming B in game. also, how do you save if a game required a memory card on the n64?

It may not have a drive letter assigned to it. If you leave it plugged into your computer and open Mini Tool partition wizard you should be able to assign a new drive letter to it. Hope this helps. ✌️

That is correct 16gb has all the bios you need minus roms. I suggest a 2 card setup because if you want to update your firmware in the future you don’t have to worry about your roms or saves. ✌️

Hello my friend, I’m not sure I understand question 1. If you mean the card itself will perform worse then I’m not sure would affect gameplay or performance in any way. Question 2 I believe the 64 gb image has n64 games but I would have to get back to you in a few hours when I have my console in hand to give you a more accurate answer. Thank you ✌️

Hey, great tutorial umm quick question when using the 2 card set up when you insert the blank card into the console does it have to be already formated to the fat 32 format?
If it’s a brand new card you can just insert it and the os will set it up for you.

hello, very informative video. this was without any doubt the clearest and easiest explanation i could find on updating the os! my only question is, do the roms that come with the 64 gb firmware version download to the 2nd sd (tf2) when you first pop it in? i am waiting for this console to be shipped to me, and i do want to keep the extensive catalog of games it comes with because i want to find some "hidden gems." if the stock roms (tf1) transfer to my 2nd sd (tf2), will my save data forever be safe on the second one? i know the tf1 save files constantly will get wiped due to upcoming updates every so often, and i want to make sure the tf2 save files will be fine and not touched during updates. thank you.
Very good questions my friend. As for the 64gb os image it will come with games when you download it and those will be store on sd1 along side your os. As for the sd 2 that’s ships with the device it will be fine and still keep whatever games come on because when setting up sd one it will not be touch by the firmware. Now for the saves and save states I believe as long as you have an sd2 they will be housed there but I would like to test and make sure prior to giving you a definitive answer. However, I used a 128 GB SDCard for a single card setup and I am left with 105 GB of unallocated space.
The total usable size of the SD card has become 4.2 GB.

If you are using stock OS than you will have alot of unallocated space with which you cant do anything with. You can use stock MOD3 rom which will expand the full card and use the full space for your Roms
I have found a solution for my scenario. I simply created another drive from the unallocated space using MiniTool Partition Wizard. So basically when I insert my SD Card into the PC, I see 2 drives now. In the first drive the OS resides and I have kept the games and files in the second drive. Working perfectly!

@@JLinfamous9 As mentioned earlier, you can use MiniTool Partition software to set up a new drive from the unallocated space on your SD card, effectively giving you two drives. When you insert the SD card into your RG35XX+ device, it will automatically create new folders on the second drive. You can then reinsert the SD card into your PC and transfer your games to this second drive, allowing you to utilize the full capacity of the SD card.

yes you can copy your games from the card that comes with the device in to the new sd card. In each folder for each system (i.e PS folder for playstation1) there should be a "Imgs" folder you need to copy this over to the new folder for the images to show up

I've just got my RG35XX-H and I'm about to starting doing stuff. Quick question, EVERY time I do update the firmware I also have to move out roms & saves, and then move in the sd after flashing firmware?...
If you are moving between different update on stock and using a 2 sd card setup you should be able to use the second card with your roms and saves and avoid transferring the files. If you are moving between different os’s you will have to transfer the files most likely depending on the filing system type.
Yea if I remember you’ll have more than 1 saves folders if you’ve been playing different games on different systems. I just highlighted all the saves folders and copied them to a folder on my computer and after I was all done with doing everything. I deleted to newly appeared saves folder and copied back all my saves folders that I had. Games loaded up perfectly.
1 more thing I learned to late, but if you don't make an actual save state (using the small button on the top of the device) there won't be any files to transfer over when you copy your saves. So load your game data and make a save state. It'll show it saving on the bottom left of the screen when it does it. If you don't, your data saves to ?system memory or ram? or something but basically theirs no hard file, so it gets erased when you put a new card in or overwrite the old one. That's how I lost everything the first time.

I don’t use a 256gb and no ps1 is not the max on the Plus and H models. You can play some N64, Dreamcast, psp, sega Saturn, nds.
