So I learned some new things to today. I received the product in your description. Which was very well packaged. I cleaned the axle up and tried sliding on the bearings. They wouldn't go on at first so I played whack-a-mole with them with the old bushing just like you did to set them in the wheel. After whacking them all the way down I pulled it off, and I had some lubricant left from changing some car brakes and slicked it down with that now they slide silky smooth. I then went on with the install and realized the damage to the wheel was much worst than I anticipated. The metal that you set the bearing on the outside of the wheel had been worn down about an inch, I didn't realize until I checked the other side of tractor and saw how snug the finished position was. So I had two choices get that tire put on a new wheel or figure something else out. So they sent parts for two wheels to be changed out, but instead I used those parts on one wheel the fill the gap so that the wheel was snug. So on top of the finished set up i put small washer and then another bearing then small washer and C-clip. The c-clip that came with new package was a little to thick to work with this so I used my old smaller clip to lock it in. I took in on a nature ride, and had no wobble or screeching. I know ill eventually have to replace wheel but I am back to cutting until that is necessary.
Thank you for the post and for sharing your experience. I am sure it will help many! Glad you got it figured out for now and am able to cut. Definitely look for a used wheel if possible. New ones are very expensive. All the best. Keep us posted.
Bought this sane HD Switch kit for my Craftsman. Wouldn't fit. Mic'd the spindle at .750, but the ball bearings in the kit were smaller in I.D. No way they could be hammered on, let alone slid on. Sent them back. :-/
@@silverthunderbird Thanks for the post. Sorry the kit did not fit your Craftsman. I would suggest contacting the company with the measurements and see if they have a kit that fits. Best of luck. Be well.
At 2:00 in the video is a good image of the spindle on which the wheel is to be mounted, showing what I assume to be a cup or cap that fits over the inside bushing to help keep dirt out. In my case, after 8 years of neglect on my Craftsman mower that I inherited from my dad, and not realizing the wheel zerk fittings needed lube, a question as to why the mower squeaked so much was revealed when I took the wheel off to reinstall a zerk fitting that came loose on me. Not only was it pretty much devoid of grease but that "cap" was floating free on the spindle. I looked for a replacement part only to learn that it is welded to the spindle and thus the entire spindle must be replaced, yet everywhere I looked, the spindle was unavailable or on backorder. My solution in lieu of a new spindle was to order a shaft collar, choosing to go with one that had a clamping, two-piece design which I thought would hold much more strongly than a less expensive, slip-on, set-screw style. After using a grinding stone on a Dremel to remove two "nubs" left on the spindle from the broken off cap, I installed the shaft collar and then added a pair of washers from the bearing conversion kit, then finished installation of the wheel. A test drive around part of my yard revealed no issues and the extreme squeaking was gone, hooray! The shaft collar I used was this one at www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MMRX61M.
Thanks for sharing your ordeal. We have all been there. Neglect is the key word and we are all guilty of it. I know your post will help someone. Glad you got it up and running! Great news!
The piece that’s supposed to go in the tire hole.. mine doesn’t go in the hole, it’s the same size as the hole and I bought the same kit you did. Do u have any recommendations of what I could do?
Hello, It may take a hammer to install it. Use a piece of wood on top of it and then gently hit with a hammer to get it to go in. Also, use some lubricant or oil to help it slide in. Small light taps and keep it level while tapping. Keep us posted.
Does this kit fit on every Craftsman lawn tractor or any other lawn tractor similar to the Craftsman lawn tractors? I live in Norway and have Partner lawn tractor that everything looks the same as on a Craftsman and i would like to upgrade my lawn tractor with this kit and maybe "the poor mans power steering" kit.
Hello Sir, I cannot confirm it will fit yours, but yes, many of them are universal. I’m sorry I cannot confirm for you though. I am not familiar with Partner mowers. If possible, visit the website of the company and look for parts to see if they match up. Good luck and thank you for the post. Be well.
@@LUKESTRONG4LIFE Ok i understand but do you know the diameter of the inner ring on the bearing or the diameter of your wheel axles on your tractor in millimeter? If so i can measure if it would fit
@@BSS22193 Hello. I only know the standard measurement. It’s for Wheels with 1.375" Rim and 0.750" Axle Sizes. See if you can convert that to metric. Be well.

It would be better to use a large socket to seat the bearing, putting the impact to the flange and outer race, you can break the bearing cage by hitting on the inner race.

I have change my ball bearings several times now, mine don't last because (like yours) the ball bearings are not tight on the shaft/spindle so the ball bearings spin/turn on the shaft instead of on the balls. The inside of the bearings wear out first and don't last. Most people have to learn this trial and error.

How much was the kit? Been thinking about doing mine but think my issue is with the steering rack.. damn thing is difficult to turn and it seems to wobble the steering wheel at high speeds.. but that could be because i put a 600rr motor on it after the ole. Kohler blew a rod out the bottom end.. now itll do 150 if somebody has the cahones and cuts grass like a champ.. gotta fix that wobble though, never touched the bushings in the wheels and dont want to put different wheels on it.. like the factory look.. with the motorcycle exhaust coming out the ass and wheelie bars and speedo cluster on the dash.. never had it past 2nd gear before i need a change of pants..

Completely agree with you that the whole procedure should be shown, no matter how simple.
