Never thought or knew you could go from brushing to bearing. I enjoyed the trip to the store.
You ARE right, you cant go to a bearing IF you own a MTD, CUB CADET, TROY BUILT etc.......ANY mower with a 1.00" OD bushing! That' a LOT of mowers!!!!!
I like those bearings. Had I known, I wouldn't have wasted $10 on the new plastic ones! Thanks
While you were at tractor supply you could have bought a complete wheel tire With the valve stim already installed in the rim, and already aired up with new wheel bearing.
Nice to find RUclips channels from nearby towns. I live around the Tyler tx area...subscribing
I already subscribed a few days ago when I watched the video where you found the 'no compression' in the lawn mower was because some moron at the factory didn't install the cap on the end of the valve stem that contacted the rocker arm and the spring retainer fell off and the valve stayed open. I subscribed because I can always learn something everyday. I have a mower that looked like the one you fixed and haven't had any problems, well not yet anyway.
Colby makes a valve replacement that install from the outside
regular old rubbing alcohol poured on the rubber of the valve stem, makes it Far Easier to pull through. This also works on rubber hoses when trying to force them on a hose barb, and a lot of other things. Something I happened to figure out one day, and have been using this trick for years.
Good video! TSC sells the replacement bushing for $5 a set, obviously bearing are better and even more so at the same price. People like me who collect orphaned lawn and garden tractors might want to look at "XiKe 10 Pack Flanged Ball Bearings 3/4" x 1-3/8" x 1/2" inch". For seven dollars more you get bearings to do 3 more tractors.
Just checked amazon. .. $16 bucks for 10 bearings. Great. Thanks for the tip!
How were the bottom of the spindles. Before you installed the bearings. Just asking.
Get some baby oil for that dash. Wipe it on, wipe it off. It will pop. A friend of mine has been using it on his Corvette dash for years. It will not dry out the Naugahyde or plastic like some dash products. I live down here in the geographical center of Texas. Primarily ranch country.
Nice thing to do, but you should have replaced those dry rotted tires at the same time.
Tires are expensive I will replace them when they no longer hold air
@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 or stuff them with foam ;-)
Just put a tube in it and run it 😊😊
With the condition of the sidewalls of the tires, I wouldn't have replaced the valve stem. I would have just put a tube into the tire in case the cracks start leaking soon.
What do you mean you couldn't even clean the grass off the washer before you put it in for maintenance I know you're doing a good job on
I made a set of spindles for my 1257 wheel horse. I got a set of axle stubs for a utility trailer and modified them to fit the front axle. Now the front end has a set of tapered roller bearings. Super heavy duty. It has a loader on the front end. Bushings just were not holding up and the spindles were getting wrecked.
nice trick to break the bead on that rim, haven't seen it done that way
It’s a great thing and saves the spindles
I have a flanged bearing set supposed to be delivered today for my front tires
Isn’t the bushing wider since it needs to spread out the weight being applied to the axle and bushing? The bearing portion that contacts the axle should not spin on the axle but spin within itself
Does this work for White Outdoor, MTD, and cub cadet mowers? i've heard they use different hubs that make it a problem. Any info would be very much appreciated. Been searching like crazy but can't get any answers. Thanks
Doesn't work on Cub Cadet.
"I don't need it"??? hah! tools, like ammo, can NEVER be "not needed".
Great job on the video...Very well done teach... Thanks for helping !
You Should have put a socket over them and tapped them in Straight. Tapping them in cooked and then flush is what harms the bearing or seal which later fails. Lazy work ~
Why didn't you use a socket or a bearing driver to install the bearing ????
Didn't need one. I don't beat on my sockets
@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 Just your bearings and valves.
Tractor supply the best over priced store known to man. 😮😮
Don't forget the grease on the wheel. It had to use long valve springs on my old tsc mower and had to put the stim to the outside because the stim hit the spindle.
Damon Northeast Texas what the hell is a stim?
Doesn't work on cub cadet. Bearings are 1-3/8 o.d., cub cadet bushings are 1-1/4 o.d.
Use a big socket to seat them
Thought I recognized that TSC. I’m in Quinlan. I like that flexible stem tool. Gonna have to get one now... thanks. Have you ever retro-fitted a Craftsman GT3000 tank to a GT5000? The GT5000 tank is NLA. They’re translucent and exposed under the seat and through the left fender to UV. All existing ones have either cracked or will crack soon.
Quinlan eh? We're practically neighbors. No I've not tried the gas tank swap.
Will not work for craftsman pro. Space between shaft and wheel too small.
Great how to video keep up brother #smallengination
Your gonna have some pissed off squirrels if they watch this video and see your eatin all their nuts. Lol
Dont let your wife see this video. You might be sleeping outside if she finds out you bought that bit set you didnt need.
The price they charged for those stems was robbery lol
Nice tip, where did u find the bearings at.?? I haven't seen bearings for lawn mowers here in South Texas stores. Thanks for any info.
One year later but I found a well reviewed set of 4 for both front rims on amazon for $19.
where did you get the tire stem tool?
the way those tires look you either need tires or tubes not valve stems lol
Small crack in that tire😂
Bearing numbers? Are there sealed bearings available?
Ez to break the bead, put it on the tractor and lower it to the ground, never fails if its a flat the bead will break.
I take offense to your comment about the cub cadets. I own two of them and love em but I didn’t buy them at a tractor supply or Home Depot. And I’m not sure that your Murray was made by MTD as well. And you had used a socket to press those bearings in you would’ve avoided breaking your valve stem.
Mtd has no affiliation with Murray. Murray is owned by Briggs and Stratton. Cub cajunk however is made by Mtd
I’ll put my cub against your Murray anytime.
And do what with it?
Can't compare apples to
Oranges
Since you have a true cub cadet shaft drive machine and not the Mtd version from tractor supply then we good.
If you had a Rural King you wouldn't go back to tractor supply ever again.
I wish we had a rural king. Closest thing we have is an atwoods home and ranch supply
2 for 1 thanks. By the way , I've never done anything like that before. lol.
are those the ones that you have to grease? zerk with a grease gun? or are these non-serviceable? cheers!
Even the ones you call no serviceable can be greased .with a bit of grease and a razor knife. Take your knife and the dust cover will come off ....re pack ...put dust cover on and away u go
I have started pulling the dust cover off and greasing new bearings. Many only have a film of grease on the balls and races. Not sure if I learned about that here or elsewhere.
Thank you for saying "carmel" btw!
No problem Monica
Informative but the guy is by no means a mechanic (obviously) so here’s what’s missing: never hit the bearings directly with a hammer or mallet. Use a block of wood. I never re-use coter pins spend the 10cents and replace it new. Clean everything you touch, degrease then re-grease or oil if needed. Lastly obviously don’t hit the valve stem and replace rubber that’s cracked new. Check tire pressure. Enjoy many hours of use!
God damn. Who has time
For all that on camera? The video
Would be 3 hrs long.
I don't understand why anyone would follow the advice of a guy who doesn't bother to clean off old dirt and grease before reassembling anything.
Don't forget to buy new tire the ones that on the rim are dry rotted
Derek Bradford I covered that in the video. But thanks for the reminder
Looks like the inspection is expired on your car too. It was showing 3/2019.
I will let her know :)
Check out that frankenstem
Good information. Thank you sir.
that cracked up tire needed to be replaced also
Why? It holds air just fine
It's PITA, not pia.
Should have got some tyres when you was out...!
Right? Wish I could have afforded some new ones
No need to replace dry rotted tires with new tires. As long as there not wore slick just install tubes and you can continue to use them for several more years.
If you look after your tires in the first place, they will out last the mover
cotter key not carter key lol
I've junked so many mower because the never did eny mantnence on them that just use them and that's it
No why couldn't you use a socket and tablet in straight so you didn't have to work so damn hard how is that funny or what
Upgrade ANY lawn tractor front wheel bushings, EXCEPT ANY that requires 1.00" OD bearing such as: MTD , TROY BUILT ; CUB CADET, etc! Sorry to say I fell for this CLICK BAIT. Thought the video would present a modification for my MTD which has 1" OD x .75" ID bushings. Guess I was wrong.THANKS for nothing @THEMOWERMEDIC! I am UN-SUBSCRIBING!!
