The best part is right when you're heading on the 5 and the plane swooshes down from the East or if you see it around Balboa/Harbor going 5 North and wonder if you're going to make to the spot where it will swoosh over you haha.
So clear pictures that you can see the wake turbulences/vortices behind most landing planes + moving to the side and downwards , what you usually see only in moist air, but here so see it like this. Amazing!
This is hands down the best RUclips video quality I have ever seen and I’m not sure why? Says HDR but I didn’t know it would effect that way it looks just makes the colors look bright and accurate.
Amazing video--Thank You! I am wondering if I could drive over to Laurel parking garage and ask to park on top for an hour or so to watch the planes. Would they let me for the right price? I figured every aviation fan would harass them to do this and that they probably would say no. Am I wrong? Or maybe certain times of day or season? I've wanted to do that since moving here 4 years ago.
Yes of course!!. During the pandemic the parking lot has been much emptier than before. I’m pretty sure now they are letting people park there to spot. The top level is actually cheaper so you pay the whole day for 12 dollars!. But I didn’t tell the person in the front that we were there to spot. We just made a different excuse
I did some planespotting at this garage a few years ago. Video can't convey just how close the planes feel. I was lucky enough to be there just when a British Airways 747 was landing- it was awesome but unexpectedly scary to see such a massive plane coming at you so low.
@@socalaviation3004 That would be so awesome! I've been here for a month with Flightradar24 alerts for a 747 and haven't seen one yet. I would plan my whole day around that lol.

Having flown into San Diego International Airport several times, I miss going a very good cafe restaurant there to have fish tacos for lunch and dinner.
Well I’ve heard lots of people that live there have complained before about hearing the planes at night. So they implemented a noise limit after 11:30pm. Personally if I live there I wouldn’t mind the engine noise
I looked at an Apt when I was new to SD, that was at the top of those hills in pt Loma. I remember the owner of the house, said she had special curtains to block the noise. The sound of those planes flying over was more than I felt I could take. So I declined the apt.
You can certainly see why the piano keys and touchdown area is positioned so far down the runway, pretty amazing how high you can stand so close to the start of the runway! Interesting how when you look straight down a runway they look shorter than what they actually are.
@@socalaviation3004 i live near to leeds/bradford airport, its runway is shorter at 2250metres with the piano keys set around 300-400 metres in so can be tight for the widebodies
A good airport to consider in the area is SNA in Irvine. It’s a small airport, smaller than SAN, so it’s very quick and easy to deal with. There’s never a line at security, and getting to the terminals is faster than SAN.
Great coverage! They all land in that same area, so i wonder how often they have to re-surface it? Any reason why none of the aircraft land before the crosswalk?

It's because of the angle of descent for the planes landing. Area before the "crosswalk" is called a displaced threshold.
That’s a displaced threshold. Aircraft are not allowed to land before it.
