Apple Conspiracy Theories

  • With Apple, as with any major organization, people tend to question the true motives of every major decision the company makes. Some of these theories can be pretty far-fetched and mostly resonate with small, more niche groups of people. But others, seem to have some pretty sound evidence. I’m going to go through some of the biggest of these conspiracies, including the evidence that supports or disproves them.

    Another reason for removing the headphone jack was to prepare everyone for the iPhone X. Apple knew that the iPhone X will already be a controversial phone. The notch and removal of the home button would take some getting used to. They knew that they would not be able to have a headphone jack on the iPhone X because they needed to fold the display over itself in the bottom part of the device to achieve the bezel-less look. That is way none of the Android phones have done away with the chin, because you need to house the display components somewhere. To get that look, Apple folded the display over and mounted the display controllers at the back of the device. You cannot get a headphone jack through the display. Furthermore, there was no space for the headphone jack at the top. If you look at how densely packed everything is up there: Two rear cameras, both with OIS, the full set of depth sensing sensors, and Apple mounts its logic board, chipset and everything at the top of the device, opposite the camera sensor. They literally could not put the jack anywhere.
    The AirPods was a two fold approach. Apple envisioned a seamless wireless future and knew that they could achieve it with their hardware and silicon team. Secondly, they knew that is they did not have a great user experience alternative to a wired connection for their customers, they would be stuck using often unreliable Bluetooth options at the time. People criticize Apple for what they seeing right now. They do not stop to think that what we see now from Apple was decisions that were made 2-to-3 years ago. Apple's teams work on projects that we will not see in the marketplace for another couple of years.

    I disagree with planned obsolescence, reason being sure my 4S only lasted two years but in that two years their CPU’s got 200% faster, and they switched to a 64 but architecture. However I’m on year 3 with my iPhone 7 running the iOS 12 GM and it still feels like a brand new phone.

    • @cjcq7

      RTG Your iPhone 7 running iOS 12 felt like a new phone because iOS 12 was probably the 1st iOS update that actually made most devices faster. Prior to iOS 12, older devices generally get slower after each updates. Apple was caught slowing down their phones during iOS 11, and they released iOS 12 that actually sped up phones possibly to make up for their mistakes.

    • @cjcq7
      @cjcq7 4 года назад

      Cancer Lord Sure, Apple devices get many years of updates for additional features. However, it’s a fact that an iPhone 5s on iOS 7 is faster than one on iOS 12. In terms speed and battery, planned obsolescence is very real.

    • @DozIT
      @DozIT 4 года назад +8

      cjcq7 notice how I said iOS 12 GM, I had been running it for a week at the time of that comment. My comment was not exclusive to my phone running iOS 12. They were slowing down phones with depleted batteries to increase stability. My phone was not affected by that as the battery was in good health. My comment still stands today running iOS 13. However I will likely be upgrading to the 12 Pro once it is released, looking forward to wireless charging and 4K at frame rates higher than 30 FPS :)

    The “right to repair” movement is gaining traction, and no one is more opposed to it than Apple. Apple charges absurd amounts for repairs and component replacements (get a screen replacement elsewhere and you'll see the massive price difference).
    Admittedly, generally their hardware is of good quality, so I've never needed to buy AppleCare. However, those who do pay for AppleCare shouldn't have to pay twice the cost for, say, a RAM upgrade, if it's compatible hardware installed by a licensed technician.
    And if a non-Apple technician does a minor repair on an Apple product, Apple won't guarantee any subsequent repairs on the phone, and may charge full price regardless of whether they can fix it or not. I know this from personal experience: I had to my screen replaced on my iPhone 6, but my town had no Apple Store so I had to get someone else to replace it. A year later Bendgate destroyed the digitiser. Apple said they were going to charge me £120 for a replacement screen and digitiser, even though the screen was undamaged, and they told me it was a risky repair because the fact I'd had an unofficial screen replacement a year prior meant that they could offer no guarantees that my phone wouldn't become a brick after the repair. (Obviously I declined the repair; thankfully I soon inherited a 7+ from my brother.)
    I understand that a company like Apple, whose hardware is designed to work in a particular way, might get antsy allowing others access, but designing proprietary screws that are laced with chalk so they can tell when their devices are opened? That's a bit much.

    • @alicejudd337
      @alicejudd337 4 года назад

      I repaired my iPhone 7's screen with a third party.
      It didn't have multitouch,it would only register one finger at the time.
      So I decided to purchase a more expensive screen at a different place. This one did have multitouch but it broke after one drop with a case AND screen protector.
      Both places did say they offer guaranty but the guy at the first place pretended he didn't know me and I had not purchased it there (even with the receipt) and the second one said it was my fault for dropping it.
      Yeah, I'm never going to buy from anyone but Apple anymore.

      No it’s because they have to optimise every android update for tons of devices like they relased 40 devices (phones) in 2019 so it would be hard to optimise the android update for each one since they are so many in lots of different shapes and size and don’t even get me started on tweaking the update for phones like the Galaxy S9 where they have to tweak android so it supports the iris scanning. What you can do (and what I do) is you allow Facebook for example to access your microphone so you can do what you need to do with it, and when you finish just go into settings and turn off facebooks access to your microphone so that way you can do what you want to do with the camera or microphone, and also prevent Facebook from targeting you with ads by turning mic access off when your done.

    planned obsolescence is a conspiracy? No. It's a well known trend that's widely use across all industries. Apple is no exception. Hell, apple openly admits to it, as they mentioned they were throttling older models because they were unable to handle new software. The unwillingness to expand the longevity of their older phones is planned obsolescence. They had other options, including capping the iOS version older devices can upgrade to and working to ensure backwards compatibility. Other examples of this include apple's cheap materials. This is especially prevalent in their macbook lineup, in which I don't believe a single year has gone by where a they didn't have issues with failure related to design flaws. Hinges, gpus, using the wrong transistor in one model. Louis Rossmann, who is a tech who specializes in repairing apple devices, has an excellent video on the repeated design failures of apple's mac books and I encourage you to look him up for indepth understanding of why apple devices have sub par quality. This use, however, of sub par quality, IS planned obsolescence. It's not a conspiracy at all.
    Also, I'd like to append to this that torx screws are not for aesthetics. I'm 3:29 seconds into this video, and I'm finding more and more an air of denial. I get that this is an apple geared channel, but fluffing the truth or outright ignoring it is a poor practice in my opinion.

    One thing that I can share is that when I use my IPAD during my visit to HK, I was reading tech reviews online about Phones and Laptops. Then the next day, my browser had ads from gadget stores in HK popped up all over the place. It went on for weeks. I thought Safari browser does not share my data. Am I missing something?

      there needs to be a large enough battery terminal on the slot where the external battery goes which is non-existent on a non-removeable battery since it has a connector built onto it and plugs straight onto the motherboard

    I don't think most major tech companies try to make their old products obsolete, it's just that technology advances fast, and that means that developers will make apps catered to the new and faster technology.

    7:17 I was watching a show called What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, and I did not search about the show prior on my phone ever, I typed W and Google auto filled everything. It was so spooky. I do have Google Assistant on Always Listening mode, so that makes me believe it's listening out for more than my Okay Google command.
    This started ever since I installed 7.0 Nougat, and it has gotten more accurate at predicting what I want since I installed 8.0 Oreo.
    Even Instagram and Facebook can predict what I'm interested, even without any prior input such as liking a photo, using a hashtag, searching for accounts or following, because I was just talking to my mom about fries and cheese burgers, then McDonald's ad with fries and cheese burgers popped out of my Instagram feed minutes after having the conversation with my mom. I had my phone with me.

    About the planned obsolescence...
    I don't think it's actually programmed into the software. Rather, they're doing it in a smarter way. Via the RAM.
    Various tests hav shown that processor speed actually goes up through updates, but the overall phone slows down. Why?
    Because bigger OSs with more features require more RAM to run, and every single Apple mobile device has little RAM. This means that as newer OSs are installed, there is less RAM for the apps themselves to run. Less RAM means crashes due to a critical component not being accessed in the RAM fast enough(maybe compressed) or slow app launches due to the phone constantly having to clear out apps to have enough RAM to launch the new app.
