    The thing about this camera and the other older canons is that they look incredibly natural with magic lantern. Everyone is complaining about how digital and sharp cameras look these days but then you have old cheap and capable cameras like these that have such a natural looking image. And I think its like you say, if you dont push the sensor to do things it cant do then you'll get great results.

    • @HarveyBridgewater

      @@Maxfower you can't do full sensor continous at 14bit on the 700D, no matter the SD Card. But you can do 2.39:1 14bit continous with no buffer. Basically till the card fills up. But if you dont mind 10bit, or 11bit (downsampled to 8-bit) then you can use any aspect ratio and not run into the buffer. Depends wether you want to color grade, or are happy with Canon Colors. It's extremely dependent on your use case. For example my other 700D video (ruclips.net/video/9WRQBaFieYU/видео.html) Was shot in 3:2 aspect radio, so that's the whole sensor read out. No buffer issues there, but its 11bit down to 8bit. I think the footage still looks really good, and the colors are great (+ I didn't need to grade it)

      Lens varies! For the sample footage I was using the canon 35mm f/2 IS, for the sit down I was on a Canon 24mm f/1.4L, make sure you use a prime lens if you can't help and afford it. The cameras biggest enemy by far is the ISO performance. Meaning the grain is understandably high. Prime lenses not only are sharper (traditionally) but they let more light on and look more cinematic.

      I try and shoot within the boundaries of a smaller sensor, fairly old camera. Expose for the highlights if possible. If not possible, get some fill lights into the shadows and do your best. For the camera to do what it can is amazing. You just have to try to play to its strengths.

    • @TerenceKearns
      @TerenceKearns 2 года назад +2

      It's a built in limitation of the hardware. Welcome to low dynamic range. You can compensate by using lights. Cheap cameras don't do well picking up detail at the highs and lows of exposure. Use the lowest contrast settings whilst recording. The other thing is YT is notorious for making compression worse. Trick is to upscale the final video to 4K and then youtube will give it better headroom to transcode.

      The harm of your battery dying quickly comes when you are updating Magic Lantern files or mid filming. As the files are mid transfer / mid recording, file corruptions are likely to happen. And in this case it could brick the camera.

      Magic Lantern is primarely a video oriented feature. The 700D is already and APS-C camera so the crop is around 1.6x the normal. So with a 50mm you get closer to 80mm. In theory whilst in the video mode, you could set a custom crop resolution and snap a picture using live view, but this takes long and there won't be any gained resolution.
