You are talking of "installing ML on the camera", but if the camera just reads from the CF-card on start its more installing the software on the CF-card, not on the camera. If you release the CF-card with ML the camera also looses ML, so its not installed on camera but on the card only. This also means you have to install it on all you memory cards you intend to use with the camera - just to make things clear.
Like your videos, do keep up the good work. On Magic Lantern, it is an interesting tool and whilst I've never had it go belly up on me, I play with it exclusively on an old 50D, just in case. To be honest as it sits on top of the cameras standard firmware not, as you point replacing it, I'm not too sure how such temporary software could 'brick' the hardware unless by using something like RAW video, you made the camera overheat. Because I'm old, I can remember the early days of personal computing when the O/S was loaded from a floppy drive because machines didn't have hard drives just a couple of floppy (removable), drives, that could go wrong too but it never hit the firmware inside the 'box', you just did a hard reboot and started again.
My understanding is to brick your camera because of Magic lantern, you must improperly pull out your memory card while it's still accessing it. So I've just slowed down removing the card each time, and no problems yet. Love this tool! Good video, thanks.
OMGosh, I want magic Lantern really bad but I just got my 80D literally yesterday and if I break this camera trying to install that I will be sooo hurt :( now I am too afraid to install.

Just installed ML on a 5 year old 70D I’ve bought used and it worked fine! Even the rollback to a later Firmware was as easy as it gets (just make a standard Firmware „update“ with a older version).
Funnily enough i have a 550d, 60d and a c200 mark 2 so it did make me chuckle when you mocked the c100 whilst putting over the 550d. I am thinking of trying magic lantern on my 550d as its my cheapest camera.
I've been using magic lantern for almost two years now and nothing has happened yet. I've read the only way to brick your camera, is by pulling out the sd card while your camera is turned on. However there have been instances where I had to remove the battery, because my cam froze for some reason. Didn't do anything really. (2-3 times) I've used it in very cold and very warm weather conditions.
Im not sure about other canon cameras, but magic lantern does wonders for the EOS M (aka one of the worst received canon cameras ever), with magic lantern you can... Shoot up to 2.5k raw Have dual ISO (making the cameras dynamyc range up to 14 stops) Change the shutter speed and frame rate with much more control Shoot at 14bit and you can add cinestyle to it leaving you with a nice flat raw file for you to manipulate all you want In other words, turn your 100$ mirrorless camera from 8 years ago to a cinema camera, for free!!
Sorry, but your camera is using 1.2.3 firmware, which is not recommended by ML due it's it major differences to 1.1.3. - 1.1.3 is much more stable and gives you real time zebras.
Bricking's a term used to describe electronic devices that are rendered useless - equating its usefulness to that of a brick, usually after some bad software causes it to stop working completely.
Thanks for the educative video. I was wondering why some features don't work on my Canon 800D and someone asked me to install Magic Lantern and try. Is this safe for this camera model?
When I installed Magic Lantern on my camera did I notice that my rebel t3 gets hotter than before? It is normal? Can you end up damaging the camera due to this overheating?
What would cause bricking though if a lot of people aren't getting bricked? Surely it's something specific. Especially if it's favored on older cameras like the 550 and 600D
You have to download the Magic Lanter Lua build, not the nightly build! I had to screw with this problem for HOURS until I figured that out. Once you download the Lua build, there's a setting that's available in ML that's not there on the nightly build to disable the 30 minute time limit!

Shame Canon stop giving you the firmware that you need for older cameras. I'm trying to install it on a 6D but can't get the older firmware that I need to run it.
IMO the real problem of ML is not bricking the camera, because that really is extremely unlikely, when following the step by step process. The real problem, at least in my experience, is that ML is not reliable. I had it installed on my 700D for a while, and the experience wasn't completely satisfactory. It would crash sometimes for no apparent reason, so i avoided using it on real jobs. You don't want your camera crashing in the middle of an interview. I'm willing to try it in my 5D M3 though, and if ML runs smoothly on it, i will be a very happy guy
Video just popped again in my recommendations lol. Do you have an updated firmware? I recall installing ML with an older firmware of my 700D, after installing it kept on showing errors like cannot read card, display goes black after turning on, crashes. Right after that I just erased and reset my cam and SD Card that had ML in it, then updated it to newer firmware, installed ML again and works fine as usual. Been using it for a year now, no errors whatsoever.

At least until recently, Canon always was too conservative regarding the features of their cameras, even when the hardware can handle more. That ensures reliability, and also ensures they don't cannibalize other Canon products. But in the case of raw recording, Magic Lantern developers say that they take advantage of the raw video signal already present, and they claim that saving this raw data consumes less power compared to the processor-intensive encoding to H264. Yes, bigger streams of data must be saved in the card, but again they claim that both the camera and the card can perfectly handle this. Not saying Magic Lantern is perfect, just saying that things are not so simple as you may think

I had it on a canon 500d for a while, didn't particularly like it took it off, I've never use it on my old faithful's Canon 50d & Canon 5d mk4, & never will, personal choice.
I own a few Canon cameras myself. But there's a reason Sony in just a few years has become #2 in the camera market. Virtually everything Magic Lantern (for free) offers is standard in the Sony's. Plus Sony has apps to download like time-lapse. My Zeiss 55mm and 90mm G macro are considered far Superior than any glass Canon or Nikon has. So laugh away... as Canon and Nikon try to catch up to Sony, in a market that is being taken over by cell-phones.
In terms of features I'd say Canon is definitely holding back. Sony cameras come standard with more features that really should be in a camera of this day and age to begin with - those that Canon most definitely intentionally left out. Sony aside, I think Panasonic is doing a great job with their Lumix GH5, internal 10-bit 422.
