@@alexcornofficial I want to echo this sentiment ... I am always on the look out for ways to improve the 1080 HD experience as the 4K is too unwieldy for me and too expensive ... especially considering the quality of RUclips and most people still watching RUclips on mobile devices ... anyway, you have totally inspired me ... I just bought a 2nd hand EOS M1 body ($180) and just ordered the 240v external power pack ($22) ... and of course installed Magic Lantern ... now I have access to a cinema rig with a huge range of lenses including a 50mm f1.2 FD Canon lens and a stack of EF lens and M44 Russian lens to try it all out on ... I can't wait to try this rig out! My next step is to download and use mlvapp to export and then edit in Davinci Resolve. Thanks for posting these videos Zeek.
Excellent tutorial Zeek and love the video clips, had my 5d MKII from day one release and still in perfect condition, such a good professional full frame camera even for stills love the new resolution and your helpful tips always appreciated, get yourself 700D very similar to the EOS M and fully supported has flip screen and card write speed at 240mhz,, Bilal and Danne are still supporting it on ML
Wow, this is a VERY different camera than the one I started out with 10 years ago. I used ML a little bit back then, but it could only record low-res raw in very short bursts with the memory cards I had-and they weren't cheap! But I'm not surprised it's still producing great quality images, I used the 5D II professionally up until 2018!
Whoa whoa whoa --- what do you mean modified with an EF mount? I have been searching for FOREVER. Can you tell me where you got it? How you modified it? The only video I could find was a RUclipsr that removed the plastic ring by force - yet that looks like if you adjust your lens to the maximum, you could damage the full-frame mirror. Please help Zeek, I have been looking for a looong time for an answer - even talking directly to Canon. But no luck until 2:50 in this video ...
Zeek. I was inspired to buy a 5D MII and I love it for stills photography! I did want to experiment with ML and I had before with a T3i...., I have to say your video are entertaining but if you haven't a lot of experience with ML your videos are now help for setting up ML at all. You skip steps and move to fast though the menues...,
Zeek, I just picked up this camera today! Your video is perfectly timed. Does anamorphic mode work? It just resulted in a black screen for me on the previous build you recommended.
Perfect! 🎥👍 Not well, when you enable that mode, press the X5 Magnify button and then set aspect ratio to 2.35:1 which is the only one that works I believe. I only ever use the 1080 & 2.8K/2K Modes 🔥🎥
This is kind of a dumb question because I'm relatively new to this and if you already have a video on this could you point me to it. I was wondering what the actual work flow using mlv is like. For instance, how do you reformat the card then reinstall magic lantern without reformating the card in the camera and resetting the camera itself? Also does mlv help with photos at all? Sorry for the dumb questions. Love the videos!
Check out my playlists on the channel 😎👍 Here is MLV App setup: ruclips.net/video/chtpBWMX1MY/видео.html You can format the card and ML will not be removed unless when you format, you select remove ML.
what is your solution if you have any when it comes to doing 5d mk ii and using extended battery. I read somewhere that you shouldn't use 3rd party batteries... why is this the case? Also, is it possible to do remote shooting via laptop and still film raw? Thanks again Mr. Zeek :)
You can use a dummy battery with 12v DC Out to a monitor that supports it. Otherwise I carry a few batteries, including third party ones. They're fine, no issues.
@@ZeekEOSZ you're so helpful.. I've never used a DC dummy battery It looks like a standard 9v/12v male jack. But i notice your battery in the EOS-M canon dummy is a female. Would a dummy battery plugged into cellphone style brick direct into a power outlet (the wall) work? I'm concerned about killing my camera! the prices of 5D MK II have appreciated (which is crazy)
@@TheJackMarcin For a wall mount, you need a 12v wall Adapter which goes into the 12v input on the monitor. The dummy goes into the 8.4V on the monitor that supports it, e.g. Fotga A50T or Feelworld F6 Plus
Wow great video Bro! Mind blowing. It must have been a super geeky genius which made this Magic Lantern software! How is that possible even to write code for a camera like that! I was not even aware of that you could hook up Nikkor lenses to the 5D Mark II. Do you have more videos on lens options for the camera?
Good to see that a few updates still come through for the ML cameras. What do you use yourself these days for RUclips? I sold my 5Diii a while back and regret it! Looking at either EOS M, M2, or 5Dii.
The 5D3 would be boss, 5DII is fine for YT as show,, but preferably you would should wide open or close-to to avoid aliasing or use an Anti Aliasing Filter. The EOS M with the 5K FRTP mode is good, greatly reduced aliasing. I wouldn't get the M2. I pretty much export as DNG and then grade in Davinci, then export as 422 LT/HQ or 4444. Then put together in FCPX. ML & DNG Workflow is so Easy: ruclips.net/video/hb3iE5djAt0/видео.html
I just bought a Kingston Canva Focus 256gb Card and i am unable to format it to work with my camera. Everytime I plug it in and power up the camera it says: "Cannot Create Folder." I am unable to shoot any photos at all nor have any response other than scrolling through the menu and attempting to format. When i try to format the card appears full 232GB/232GB. Upon attempting to format it basically freezes then i have to pull the battery. If format it on my mac to ExFat format it only changes the error message, but it still will not format and freezes. I have to pull the battery. Have you ever had a similar issue with a card? If there's no simple solution I might just return the card. But perhaps there is way around that I am not familiar with?
Hmm, I've never come across this before. Make sure all the ML files are on the CF Card. Format in camera if you can. Format in another camera if you have one. ExFat is for Windows systems, you need journalised for Mac.
Brilliant footage man. So no more aliasing and moiré with this build? I can see none in your footage. Previously 5d mark ii was very limiting to shoot with ML raw.
With 2.8K RAW, it's barely as visible as the 1080 mode. However in my latest video I hacked the 55-250 Aps-c kit lens onto the 5D2 with a 1.4x teleconverter and couldn't see any aliasing even in the 1080 mode or even with the Helios 44-2, so it's amazing the lens choice is also important in reducing aliasing.
Very helpful video, as it has been a while since shooting with the 5D2. Which is the best mode for the least aliasing? I'm guessing the crop mode like on the EOS M.
Totally new to Magic Lantern. Haven't even quite figured out what to download yet. Been shooting on the Mark II since the year it came out and would love to keep using it. Just not sure where to start with this. I'm also at that point in my life where new phones confuse me.
The files are in the description. Download the folder, all the files in the folder should be copied and pasted into a CF Card. Then you update firmware. 😎👍🎥💯
Is there any point of using Technicolor Cinestyle picture profile if I am using Magic Lantern RAW? I guess it won't preserve any more details since I am already getting RAW footage? Thanks for all the videos!
Great looking footage. Fun fact, I still use the OG 5D for stills. Did a shoot just prior to pandemic and a pro photographer buddy of mine saw the stills and asked what camera I used because he loved the look (5DMIV user). When I told him he looked like he wanted to cry. Great lighting and knowing how to compose is far more important than owning a new camera body! I just may pick up a 5DMII. Wonder what they go for on eBay these days.
Haha amazing story, thanks for sharing 👍 Still amazing cameras even today. The 5D2 has had a price drop. I used to pay close to $1000 for it, not you can get it between $300-700. 1 got mint for $500 with around 900 shutter count.
@Zeek, you channel is fantastic. One partially related question: I got an EOS 5D mII lying around here and I would like to bring it to use in occasional video calls. Unfortunately the latest Canon webcam drivers aren’t working on my 5D mII connected to my mac via usb. I am now experimenting with the live view and the hdmi output. I kinda works, but the image is mirrored and the focus rectangle is in the way. Does your latest firmware support clear hdmi output? Or do you know of any other solution?
@@arminbwagner Really? I have tested my Eos m shooting Raw and I got 2 hours. I will test the 5D2 out and see with a 128GB card. Is yours set to 10 bit? You can enable powersave option in ML I think tab 7, you can disable 30 minute limit and work beyond.
I'd probably go with the 6D. Better in lowlight. I like L Glass lenses like the 24-70 F4 or Sigma Art. If you like zooms with Stabilisation, then the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC is a very good one for photos and video. Good Canon lenses for photos, Canon STM 50mm F1.8 or 35mm F2. The old Sigma DG HSM ex 50mm F1.4 is very good too.
Do a video for best settings in MLV. I have a questions. Is it better to lower down exposure and bring up shadows for sharper detailed video or bring up exposure and lower shadows??
Whatever the situation calls for and how good you camera's latitude is. The latter method will look more contrasty, whereas the first one will look more flat. If you're going to denoiser in post the it's fine, but getting good exposure out of the camera first is key.
Zeek, maybe you could help me with the question I have. I have been shooting the old sony a-55 with a 17mbps bitrate and bad glass. Looking for a upgrade and considering the 5d2 with magic lantern. I dont mind tinkering with it and putting some effort in to get something nice out of it. A big advantage would allready be that the still quality should be amazing. But video? I would like to shoot high quality 1080p, preferably 1440p and maybe 4k. However I do read a lot about crops and I am a bit worried now if the 5d2 still feels like a good option because I would like to take advantage out of the fullframe sensor. So what crops are we talking about with these resolutions? And how do you still get some nice wide shots? What kind of (vintage) glass would you need to tackle this?
There's no crops with the 5D2 or even the 5D3 with ML. It shoots Full Frame Raw in 1080 Mode. Of you're going to shoot 2.8K Raw then there is a 2x Crop Factor. I like Zeiss Vintage Glass, Takumar and Helios with the 5D2.
@@ZeekEOSZ perfect. Just what I needed to know, thank you. Makes me think to consider 1080p once again. One more thing, what focal lengts do you find yourself using if you do shoot 2.8k?
@@harmfpv For the 5D2, I like 35/50mm lenses. I also use the Canon 24-70 F4 IS which I love. I think any lens with stabilisation is going to work great.
Thank you so much for the vedeo I wanna ask you a question. I have the same camera but why the settings doesn't loik like yours? It doesn't look like we have the same camera at all? Is there an update or what?
Can't wait to try this on my camera! I have one of those silicone covers for my 5dii as well. After taking the camera apart several times, the rubber grips didn't stick back on properly.
I love your videos mate. Have you played much around with the higher bit rates for putting them in resolving things like that and do you think you’d get much out of them. I’m guessing the limiting factor is time recording but even if they were a hero shots you’d want to greater heavily just wondering . But I’m sure to find out soon anyway thanks mate love your videos!
Yes I have, there not much of a difference, if at all. 14 Bit is 15 or so seconds. But quality difference in isn't significant. 10 Bit is more than enough for Grading with ML Raw on the 5D2.
Good video. I have one question. Is it possible to stop turn off camera after 30 min of working during HDMI connection. I try to join my Mark 2 and 3 to HDMI recorder. But it turn off after 30 mins. Do you have any solution?
Better ;) Aliasing free, more modes, including lossless RAW. I got the 5D2 for peanuts, and it does sell cheap these days, whereas the 5D3 has stood a solid price over time. It is worth it though.
@@ZeekEOSZ awesome thanks, I had magic lantern before but I stop bcoz they didn’t have RAW with sound, I guess the update it since then! I gonna have to check it out again on my 5d mkiii. Cheers mate!
Great videos! I shot 5d mark 2 raw in 2013 and 2014 (search "Hanna's mission" for a little video I shot on it) and loved it. I have since used 4k cameras and now that I see the 5d can do 2.7 k raw I am thinking of buying another 5d mark 2, after selling my original, sigh. The footage I shot in 1880 resolution looks better than my Panasonic 4k cameras. So organic, so full of information. So I did remember some pink color, just in little slivers here and there, when I ran my dngs through Davinci Resolve. Is that little glitch gone now, or are you still seeing it?
thank you for all your efforts really, I shoot on 5d mark 2 since 2010 short films and it is poor no budget, tried ML a long time ago and it had severe moire so does things improved and can I just shoot 10 bit and maybe widescreen cas i do have only limited speed cards not interested in 3x mode cas it changes everything i love full-frame for, cant get more than 120Mb cards because of the price in my country, what do You recommend in my case ? .. I guess u r answer will be stay as u r on h.264 lol
The 5D3 has no aliasing issues, it's the best for Full Frame RAW. The 5D2 is fine to shoot with 10 bit. 64GB/128GB SanDisk CF Cards are good. 10 Bit should be good enough. I only shoot raw video on these cameras.
so is it reliable I mean is it stable as the main software, cas as u know in the film world with actors and dialogue, etc it can be a pain to have crashes or lost shots
Hello zeek, I can open the ML,but i can't open "RAW Video MLV" to set Resolution(can‘t not see 5:14 interface), I push the “Photo style” But i dont work. help help me
@@ZeekEOSZ I need the EF-S to EF i have a 5D Mkii and have some EF-S style lenses. I found your tutorial and just ordered the part! hoping it gets here from china fast! this wide lens would be great to use. its really a shame that EF-s dont work with EF mount, but not for long!!
Zeek which of these cameras do you think would be best for magic lantern: 5d mk2, 70D or 6D? I like the sound of the 70d's dual pixel autofocus but also like the full frame of the 5d mk2 and 6d. What's your opinion.
I would choose the 5D3 above all these. The 6D could be my next choice as it has received some modern updates and new modes. Dynamic range is good too. Aliasing will be shown on these cams in 1080 mode. 70D lacks modern builds, but the DPAF is indeed nice. You don't need a monitor with it. I'd look at RUclips Videos with it and see if you like the Magic Lantern Look on it. You could also go the EOS M with a speedbooster.
Hi Zeek, great video (as always)! Can I ask you the crop factor of the 2.8k mode? Because the in-camera-preview is 5x but the file seems to have a larger field of view
Hey Zeke, thank you for an amazing instructional video. I have a question about the 3.5k mode. Now, when we activate this mode, we get the pink screen and a x5 zoom. We know that the actual zoom on the sensor is x2. How can we know how to compose the shot properly? I tried this mode but I'm having difficulty composing the shots. Thank you!
No problem. To see the exact framing, you need to go into raw video section and set preview to Grey scale which shows the exact framing. It can be a bit challenging, but I'm used to it. Sometimes I record with the pink Liveview and then playback to see the framing, then I know how to frame on the pink live view.
@@ZeekEOSZ Many thanks for your reply. I tried the grey scale and it's great. I have however two more issues for which I hope you can help, although I'm sure you already answered them somewhere. 1) On the crispier, higher-detail areas, I see some green and red little spots. Is that normal? 2) I'm getting quite a lot of noise on the darker areas even though I'm shooting at ISO 100. I think there is more noise after I'm increasing the sharpness to 100. Thank you so much!
I haven't noticed any green or red spots before. Chroma noise? With the 5D2 , you can lift the ISO up to 320 ISO, shouldn't be too bad. Faster lenses are always better, e.g. F/1.4 - 2. Leave sharpness at 0% in MLV App if you get a lot of noise. Exporting DNG from MLV App seems to have better noise output.
Zeek - for some strange reasons, I find newer cameras are not really better... Feels like revisiting ML path. I wonder, are the videos recorded with ML on 5D Mark ii are all-intra or long gop? Please guide.
@@ZeekEOSZ I plan on making short films with the 5D2 and was looking for an all purpose lens. I'm finding that lens prices are much higher for full frame cameras. I keep hearing the 24-70 is the best but I like the 18-135 in your video. Which would you choose if you had to choose just 1?
Hi Zeek. Thank you for all your help with ML. It seems that everything works great on this build apart from formatting the card for some reason. Other builds I tried had no problem in formatting while keeping ML. This specific build in your link does not seem to let me format the card, makes me need to delete videos one by one.. Any idea what might be the problem? Is it just my 5D2? Thanks again.
Hi Zeek, it's me again! due to you i'm buying this camera because this one got a very sentimental value for me, and thanks to you also i'm able to install Magic Lantern here, now the question is.. if the ISO or exposure from this mlv video can't be changed, then what is " RAW " about it ? other than significant more detail compared to 5dII usual mov video and i can export it to variety of prores etc? i'm wondering about this quite a while
From the MLV file, everything can be changed including exposure/gamma, white balance, hue, white level etc... This app is like Photoshop for Magic Lantern RAW Video: mlv.app/
would you use 5d mark ii raw professionally? i'm thinking of getting this camera since changing ecosystem to Fuji or Sony seems very expensive especially since i already have some EF lenses available. But i'm a bit concerned about the workflow and the data rates of raw video.
Hey Zeek, I have been messing around with your build as well as some others, thank you! I am finding that my footage seems to have issues when I use an external monitor, corrupted files or odd frame issues, have you found this at all, or do you have any idea as to why? Cheers Chris
Use your smartphone as a monitor, as I have done with my EOS M/5D2: ruclips.net/video/vCdDZ8fXtis/видео.html Dropped frames never used to happen for me with the 5D2 and external monitors until i got a new cable. Not sure if that's the solution, try reducing the resolution a little and see if that does anything. Dropped frames happen when the camera performs under stress. Make sure youre shooting 24p and try 10 bit.
I just bought the 5D2. It's on it's way but I'm a bit confused on the memory card. Do i need the compact flash card or will an SD card work? Will the SD card with a compact flash card adapter work ok? I have a 128GB Extreme PRO SD card so I'm wondering if it's just an adapter I need. Thanks Zeek!
Hey man, first, great content and information much appreciated! On the other hand would please help me out with the settings for a Canon 5D mar III? Most videos i found are 5 years old, and completely new at this world of raw, also maybe export settings for the mlv app for premiere? Sorry to bother! I appreciate you!
I don't own a 5D3. In the Magic Lantern Forum, you will find some of the latest stuff/builds for the 5D3 under camera specific discussions or experiments.
Hi and thanks for this awesome tutorial and video on the 5D2. When I am using your build and doing everything like you do on a almost brand new 5D2 (less than 1000 shots) everything works except when I go into 5x crop I get a completly pink screen with flickers and a screen full of scanlines. Also it sometimes just freezes or some other artifacts (black and white bars) appear. Video taken is also completely pink/white. Anything I am doing wrong?
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks for the response! Seemed to have worked with Canon Hacked Gray Scale. Did not record a long clip yet but will try and report how it goes. Also noticed it does make a difference what video modes you pick in the Canon menu. 1920x1080 30/24.. I tried to follow each step but always had a different number in the "RAW Video (MLV)" menu. Can't wait to record a scene with your build Thanks again!
Hey! thanks for the vid! I have used your ML version from the link and the Manual mode (M) does not work with Video. is that normal? when I click on Live View button nothing happen when it is on M. your advise will be highly appreciated. thanks much
Great Content Zeek. I have the 5d Mark ii and the EOS M2 and magic lantern works great. My only problem is my 5d mark ii autofocus doesn’t work. Is the autofocus not available on the 5d mark ii? I use Canon lenses and 3rd party EF lenses and with a speedbooster the autofocus works perfect on EosM2.
Hi Zeek, what do you think about the difference in terms of resolution and quality between 1880×1058 (Full HD) and the crop solutions (2K, 2.5K... 2.8k...). I heard that if you use the crop factor you're using just a small part of the sensor, does this decrease the resolution and quality of the image? Let's put it in the easy way: according to you is the full hd raw a better choice in spite of the higher raw definition solutions on the 5D2?
HD Raw is a good choice yes. Aliasing can become an issue though depending on the lens. I like vintage glass, they work quite good. Higher resolutions can be a bit sketchy to use, but the results are darn good. HD Raw is good enough 👍
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks a lot. I made a test yesterday. Full HD worked perfectly, 2.3K instead gave me this kind of problem. www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19092.0 (pink and green frames sometimes, and a bit jello effect). Any idea of what could be the reason?
@@pierpaolodemejo933 Good to hear! The pink stuff are dropped frames when the camera Performa under pressure. Disabling Audio and global draw can help, as well as selecting 10 Bit.
@@ZeekEOSZ Gosh, you know everything! :D I've just tested what you said and 2.3k mode works much better. Some drops still remain but much less then before. My conclusion is the same of yours I guess: Full HD is more stable and the better solution if you need to shoot a short movie or stuff like that
Subscribed! Thank you! I have been testing builds for DAAYYS and was about to give up on having all these features in one build. Thank you! Do you happen to know if there is a way to crop the sensor for H264 filming or at least crop the sensor and keep it HD (1880x1055 whatever)?
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks, good to know. I ran into some issues uninstalling this build so I'll probably stick to more stable versions but still its a really nice feature set, thanks for making the download available.
Hi Zeek, I really like your preferred setting for Magic Lantern. I am wondering if you know of a way to combine your preferred build options to also include the option to turn off the shutter restart. I don't see it in your build and the build that offers it doesn't allow to change the bit depth for the video. I'm looking to be able to combine these options. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
@@ZeekEOSZ the build you have in the description doesn't have a disable option for the 30 minute reset on the shutter. The last experimental build on the magic lantern website has that option but then you can't change the bit depth of the raw video. It's explained here, check the description for the power save section: ruclips.net/video/Crlqa0_43js/видео.html This is on the Eos m, but I'm certain the 5D2 has it as well.
hey zeek ! thank you so much for your videos i am diving in magic latern but i am already facing an issue, icant change my resolution mode "it says the only resolution available is the video mode 1880. do you know from where the pb might ome from ?
Don't know what pb mode is. To change from 1880x to 2.8k mode, just press the magnification button on the top right to enter X5 zoom when in the 3.5K preset.
Hi @zeek. I keep getting what appears to be corrupted videos (they appear all red and garbled with no discernable video) with this build. Have you run into this? i just want basic 1080p raw videos. should I go back to the nightly build?
Have you experienced any ripples in your video when shooting @ 2880? I get a bit of cmos ripple(jello imaging) at 2.8k. Maybe I missed something in the settings?
You mean lines, that fade away after a few seconds? I haven't experienced any jello imaging before. Must be the 2x Crop Factor in the 2.8K Mode, so more wobble when hand-holding. I use a neck strap and stretch it out to create tension then add post stabilisation.
Hey Zeek, thanks a lot for this video and the others about ML for 5D. If I select 1880×1058, with a Sandisk extreme CF 160mb/s (64, 128giga...), do you think I can record continuosly or the camera is going self stop at a certain point? What if I increase a litle bit (2k)?
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks again! What is the crop factor in 2K? And what do you think about enlarging the image from 1880x1058 to 1920x1080 in post? Does the quality would get so down or you could still have a good and cinematic product workable in color correction?
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you for your answer! I just wanna do some music videos of me playing the guitar. So I guess the 5D would probably be anough, but I prefer the moveable screen of Panasonic. And I also prefer the 5D Price 😅
What about the noise? I'm thinking about acquiring a camera with ML capability and better low light perfomance than EOS M. Did you test 5D Mark II in low light condition? Which highest ISO you use in this case? Do you think about 5D Mark III?
Could you send me a screenshot to Instagram? Turn the camera off, then on and format, then see. It may be because 256GB is not a supported capacity. 128GB might be the Max.

Cheers Bernard! 👍
Those cameras are improving a lot which is great, really unbelievable stuff are happening 🎥🔥
You're the man Zeek!
No problemo 🎥👌
Thanks so much for this. Question.. what is that rubberized wrap you have on your camera?
Thank' s a lot for sharing your settings. Great improvement of ML. Amazing what quality the 5DMark2 has now.
cheers
Yes indeed, cheers 😎👍
Dude great video man. Kudos
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, it's amazing. For stills it's magic, with ML Raw it's a new camera, especially with false colour and histogram.
If you ever gent the 5D miii that’s I’m going to cry of happiness.
It's a very nice camera for sure, an ML Workhorse. Maybe one day. ;)
Awesome videos as always man !! I love ur stuff
Glad to hear! ;)
Zeek. I was inspired to buy a 5D MII and I love it for stills photography! I did want to experiment with ML and I had before with a T3i...., I have to say your video are entertaining but if you haven't a lot of experience with ML your videos are now help for setting up ML at all. You skip steps and move to fast though the menues...,
Awesome! I've done these settings videos many times, so probs by accident I'm going a bit too quick without realising.
Zeek have you ever tried cf to sd adapters? Would the speeds be fast enough for magic lantern?
Thank You Very Much The Downloaded Build You Provided With Settings Is Just What I Was Looking For👍🙂
Zeek, I just picked up this camera today! Your video is perfectly timed. Does anamorphic mode work? It just resulted in a black screen for me on the previous build you recommended.
Perfect! 🎥👍
Not well, when you enable that mode, press the X5 Magnify button and then set aspect ratio to 2.35:1 which is the only one that works I believe.
Check out my playlists on the channel 😎👍
Here is MLV App setup:

You can format the card and ML will not be removed unless when you format, you select remove ML.
what is your solution if you have any when it comes to doing 5d mk ii and using extended battery.
@@ZeekEOSZ awesome. any brand of AC adapter you recommend for the Mk II 5D?
@@TheJackMarcin
This is the one I use, but you can get the same one cheaper:
www.ebay.com.au/itm/223738955787
@@ZeekEOSZ you're so helpful.. I've never used a DC dummy battery It looks like a standard 9v/12v male jack. But i notice your battery in the EOS-M canon dummy is a female. Would a dummy battery plugged into cellphone style brick direct into a power outlet (the wall) work? I'm concerned about killing my camera! the prices of 5D MK II have appreciated (which is crazy)
@@TheJackMarcin
For a wall mount, you need a 12v wall Adapter which goes into the 12v input on the monitor.
The dummy goes into the 8.4V on the monitor that supports it, e.g. Fotga A50T or Feelworld F6 Plus
3:41 I can see horizontal lines, seems a not nearly good image for me, I don´t know what happened.
ML & DNG Workflow is so Easy:

Yes the crop mode is better. Shooting fast apertures helps too. 😎👍
Do you recommend to do all of this with my 5d or spend the money to build the digital bolex that you had in a video not too long ago?
It's up to you and your shooting style. The digital bolex style is cool. ML is free, won't wreck the 5d2.
Is there any point of using Technicolor Cinestyle picture profile if I am using Magic Lantern RAW? I guess it won't preserve any more details since I am already getting RAW footage? Thanks for all the videos!
Picture profiles will no effect of shooting Raw 😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks Zeek! Hopefully one day I will learn how to get the results from my 5Dm2 as amazing as yours and won't have to bother you ;) Peace
@@pawekowalik8183 you'll be fine man, enjoy! 😎👊
Thank you!! The video quality is amazing!
What do you think of the 5d mk2 vs sony a7s, which is better? Which to choose?
A7S is good for the quick stuff, more clean especially in Lowlight. 5D2* raw may take more time. I just like ML Raw footage better though.
Also…. do your recommend a cage which can be used with a Canon BG-e6 battery grip? Thanks and great job.
Haha amazing story, thanks for sharing 👍
Still amazing cameras even today. The 5D2 has had a price drop. I used to pay close to $1000 for it, not you can get it between $300-700. 1 got mint for $500 with around 900 shutter count.
Is there any performance difference from 5d2 to 5d3 in ML?
@Zeek, you channel is fantastic. One partially related question: I got an EOS 5D mII lying around here and I would like to bring it to use in occasional video calls. Unfortunately the latest Canon webcam drivers aren’t working on my 5D mII connected to my mac via usb. I am now experimenting with the live view and the hdmi output. I kinda works, but the image is mirrored and the focus rectangle is in the way. Does your latest firmware support clear hdmi output? Or do you know of any other solution?
You can get clean HDMI by enabling global draw off in the ml menu, or clear overlays I think tab 5/6.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you! The shutter closes after about 30mins, but apart from that my setup now works like a charm!
@@arminbwagner
Really? I have tested my Eos m shooting Raw and I got 2 hours. I will test the 5D2 out and see with a 128GB card. Is yours set to 10 bit?
You can enable powersave option in ML I think tab 7, you can disable 30 minute limit and work beyond.
Hi! I'm torn between getting a second-hand 6d or 5d2. I'll mainly use if for food photography and videography. What lenses best matches them too?
I'd probably go with the 6D. Better in lowlight. I like L Glass lenses like the 24-70 F4 or Sigma Art. If you like zooms with Stabilisation, then the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC is a very good one for photos and video. Good Canon lenses for photos, Canon STM 50mm F1.8 or 35mm F2. The old Sigma DG HSM ex 50mm F1.4 is very good too.
I agree, the 6D is a keeper.

The build in using is in the description for download 😎👍
Hey zeek! great tutorials man... I hope you can do one with the Canon 70D eventually 👍
Appreciate it 👍 If I can get the 70D cheap, I wouldn't mind.
Good video. I have one question. Is it possible to stop turn off camera after 30 min of working during HDMI connection. I try to join my Mark 2 and 3 to HDMI recorder. But it turn off after 30 mins. Do you have any solution?

Yeah no worries. These cameras are beasts now ;)
Great videos!
@@Everestchannel4 In 1080 10 bit, yes it's reliable. Just the Aliasing can be an issue.

Right 👍 Should be good 🎥🔥
Zeek which of these cameras do you think would be best for magic lantern: 5d mk2, 70D or 6D?
It's 2x crop like M43
Great explanation Zeek! one question...can't get it to work on my 5d 2..is it because of the old cf card?16gb 120mb/s
nevermind..forgot to enable the playback module xD
I'd recommend 64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro and above!
Zeek - for some strange reasons, I find newer cameras are not really better... Feels like revisiting ML path. I wonder, are the videos recorded with ML on 5D Mark ii are all-intra or long gop? Please guide.
Hi Zeke. Do you recommend that cinestyle be installed or do you just create your own profile?
Either are fine. I like Cinestyle. With ML Raw, picture profiles aren't baked into the file.
@@Jay-wr1wh 18-135 is for crop sensors. I use a Teleconverter. My favourite would have to be the 24-70. 👍 F/4 might not be enough in low light though.

Other builds I tried had no problem in formatting while keeping ML. This specific build in your link does not seem to let me format the card, makes me need to delete videos one by one.. When you format the card, reset the camera and format again. Otherwise do it through your PC/Mac
Hi Zeek, it's me again! due to you i'm buying this camera because this one got a very sentimental value for me, and thanks to you also i'm able to install Magic Lantern here, now the question is.. if the ISO or exposure from this mlv video can't be changed, then what is " RAW " about it ? other than significant more detail compared to 5dII usual mov video and i can export it to variety of prores etc? i'm wondering about this quite a while
From the MLV file, everything can be changed including exposure/gamma, white balance, hue, white level etc...

would you use 5d mark ii raw professionally? i'm thinking of getting this camera since changing ecosystem to Fuji or Sony seems very expensive especially since i already have some EF lenses available. But i'm a bit concerned about the workflow and the data rates of raw video.
I would with the 5D3. Not 5D2 due to aliasing in 1080. Data rates are fine as I'm post you can transcoded it to h.264, DNG or whatever.

Hey Zeek, I have been messing around with your build as well as some others, thank you! I am finding that my footage seems to have issues when I use an external monitor, corrupted files or odd frame issues, have you found this at all, or do you have any idea as to why? Cheers Chris
Use your smartphone as a monitor, as I have done with my EOS M/5D2:
ruclips.net/video/vCdDZ8fXtis/видео.html
Dropped frames never used to happen for me with the 5D2 and external monitors until i got a new cable. Not sure if that's the solution, try reducing the resolution a little and see if that does anything. Dropped frames happen when the camera performs under stress. Make sure youre shooting 24p and try 10 bit.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks! makes sense, well best try a new cable first :)
The 5D2 requires a CF Card (Not CFAST). SanDisk Extreme PRO is what I prefer. The 5D3 can take SD not the 5D2. An adaptor is not a good idea.

Check your RAW Video framing mode in the ML VIDEO Tab. Set it to Canon Hacked Grey scale or try the others and see how it goes.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks for the response! Seemed to have worked with Canon Hacked Gray Scale. Did not record a long clip yet but will try and report how it goes.

Thanks.
Check the build I left in the description
@@ZeekEOSZ the build you have in the description doesn't have a disable option for the 30 minute reset on the shutter. The last experimental build on the magic lantern website has that option but then you can't change the bit depth of the raw video. Even the last stable build option on the magic lantern website doesn't offer the bit depth option unless I am not turning something on.
Hey Zeek! Any more current versions of ML for the 5DMKII (or 5DMKIII) at this time (July 2021)? What are the best soures?
The one in the description provided is the best imo. No latest updates so far.
This video helped me out loads! Took me a while as first time updating the 5d II and didnt sort the models until the end so, ensure they are on before going through all this, possible rooookie mistake thanks tho very help full
No problemo 😎👍
Hi! Can I ask how long a shot you're able to capture on the Mark II with Magic Lantern? Does it max out at a certain timecode? Thanks so much
@@janine3410 I haven’t tested out thst long but I believe it is half an hour! Not 100%
@@mal8488 Thank you so much!! That eases my mind
Fantastic work as usual dear Zeek!
Using that build. If I ever want to record long. Really long like 60minutes for a concert. Do i need to get some settings changed? Tryied in h264 and got only 12min/4.2 gb bits and then stopped.
HELP! Thanks a lot !
It also seemed that even recording Raw, the 4gb limit was on.
Is that true?
In the ML menu I think tab 7/8, go to powersave and disable 30 minute limit.
@@ZeekEOSZ is it another build to install you mean? Cause I don’t see any mention of 30min in the powersave options.
It's explained here, check the description for the power save section:
ruclips.net/video/Crlqa0_43js/видео.html
This is on the Eos m, but I'm certain the 5D2 has it as well.
hey zeek ! thank you so much for your videos i am diving in magic latern but i am already facing an issue, icant change my resolution mode "it says the only resolution available is the video mode 1880. do you know from where the pb might ome from ?
Don't know what pb mode is. To change from 1880x to 2.8k mode, just press the magnification button on the top right to enter X5 zoom when in the 3.5K preset.
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you so much zeek ! this a great adventure.
No problem 👍
what lens is that 2:43
It's an Old B4 mount TV Lens. It's the Fujonon 8-128mm F1.8.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks
Hi @zeek. I keep getting what appears to be corrupted videos (they appear all red and garbled with no discernable video) with this build. Have you run into this? i just want basic 1080p raw videos. should I go back to the nightly build?
I've never experienced this with this Build. Check your 5D2 is not at 30fps in the Canon Menu, also enable 10 bit Raw.
You can record continuous in 1080 mode and 2K for sure 😎👌 Just enable 10 Bit
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks again! What is the crop factor in 2K?
And what do you think about enlarging the image from 1880x1058 to 1920x1080 in post? Does the quality would get so down or you could still have a good and cinematic product workable in color correction?
thanks for you effort: please tell me if i can shoot 4k 24fps. thanks in advance
You can't. But in MLV App, you can upscale to 4K which is the next best thing 😉
Is it better to buy a Panasonic Lumix GH5 or a Canon 5D with ML installed? Great video btw
Depends what you do. For reliability and future proof work, I'd go GH5/G9.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you for your answer! I just wanna do some music videos of me playing the guitar. So I guess the 5D would probably be anough, but I prefer the moveable screen of Panasonic. And I also prefer the 5D Price 😅
@@maximekupke7311
Cool!
You could also consider the GH4, A6400, Fujifilm X-T30/X-T3 or Olympus Em10 Mark III.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thx for your advise, I take note of that. Have a nice day!
What about the noise? I'm thinking about acquiring a camera with ML capability and better low light perfomance than EOS M. Did you test 5D Mark II in low light condition? Which highest ISO you use in this case? Do you think about 5D Mark III?
It is better in low light, but not by much. Your best bet will be the 5DIII or 6D.
Hi Zeek, great video! Can you easily record RAW video and switch to photo if needed without complications?
You can click the shutter while in raw mode, so very easy actually 😉👍
@@ZeekEOSZ Perfect, thank you!
No problem, this cam still still takes amazing photos 🔥🎥
Wow, great!
Thank you! Cheers!
İ bought sandisk extreme pro 256 but my canın 5d mark ii dont except this cart please help me why dont fotmat this cart
You can't format in camera? What does it say?
My canon say that wait now machine is busy
Could you send me a screenshot to Instagram? Turn the camera off, then on and format, then see. It may be because 256GB is not a supported capacity. 128GB might be the Max.
Yes this is the reason thank you very much 🤗
Just got this body and battery for usd 200 cash.
Can't wait to load up magic lantern and begin using it on gigs.
where did you buy the steel mount on your Ef-s 10-18?
The links should be in the description of this video:

Im a beginner with a Canon 5D Mark 2 and I just have one question, how did you get that other menu. I have none of those things??
lovely!
Hi Zeek! Does the Build in your Dropbox feature the Red City Modules activated etc... ie good to go as is?
Yes it does 😎👍
Howdy Zeek, what kind of record times do you see with your 128gb card?
Continuous record times until card fills up. You could probably get around 40-60 minutes worth of footage in 1080 mode.
@@ZeekEOSZ Awesome! Just got 5D Mkii to play around with. As long as it doesn't eat hard drives like my Sigma FP I'm fine 😅
@@DayPhotography Awesome, you'll be fine!
@@ZeekEOSZ Any tips on getting 180 shutter degree? I used that lastest build you had, but I remember my EOSM had shutter fine tuning and noticed it will only hit 171 or like 192 with the 5Dmkii, just curious. Cheers
@@DayPhotography
Yes, set fps override to 24fps.
It looks almost like movie film footage
Thank you. Magic lantern does wonders for these cameras. 14-bit Raw, can't argue with that..,🎥🔥💯
