      @@stevemurrell6167 I think it's because they were musicians before rockstars. Their stage presence was kind of awkward and inconsistent in exchange for their music sounding better as a band. Not saying that makes it right but, that's just what I think. I'm sure you'll name other examples of bands that were similar who were inducted though so idk 🤷‍♂️

    Kansas pretty much toured with other bands and was an "opening band".... They had a record deal with a label and were sent in to a nice studio to work on their coming LP. The night before they were to pack up and go though.... Their guitarist went up to bed and started playing around. When he came down in the morning and found the other fellas cleaning up, he stopped them and played for them what he had written the night before.... Not long after the band, with their musical skills, had pretty much worked out this song!! They were so happy with it that they called their agent /producer and played it for him over the phone. That man was aw-struck! They released the tune and it went crazy on the radio! Request after request for it! The band quickly became the headline group of the concert tours from then on! This song went on to sell over 4 million copies of that LP release and still leaves them on the charts somewhere... I forget exactly. :-)

    Yeah they're kind of talking about a son or a daughter. That's out of control. And they can't reel them back in. So they're telling them carry on My wayward son..in order to get all that craziness out of them. And when they get all that craziness out of them there'll be peace when you are done.. we've all been there at one point.

    The changeups in rhythm and melody you heard, rather than the standard uniform rhythm and melody line through the whole song, is a main characteristic of 70's progressive or "prog" rock. Also for most part the musicianship in these bands is superior!

  • @The_Dudester
    @The_Dudester 2 года назад +1

    Classic rock is called that because it follows the format of masters-Beethoven, Bach and Brahms:
    Into
    First verse
    Second verse
    Instrumental interlude (intermezzo)
    Third verse
    Coda
    In the 80's the best bands that followed this were Kansas, Styx and RUSH. In a 2012 video (Man in the wilderness/Castle Walls) Tommy Shaw speaks of Kansas' Leftoverture album and how it inspired him in songs that he contributed to the Grand Illusion album.

    You can’t go wrong with Kansas, one of tightest playing bands in rock history. I’m sure your fans will point you toward “Point of No Return” & “Dust in the Wind”, but the entire catalog has merit in addition to Kansas’ top hits. They were one of the very best live shows in their day too. We recently lost the fabulous fiddle player Robbie Steinhardt this year. You hear his high harmonies on this classic. R.I.P. Robbie 🙏

    One of the greatest rock songs by one of the greatest prog rock bands of all time. Just an FYI, there are no tempo changes in this song. The tempo remains constant throughout. What you're hearing are actually time signature changes -- the song begins in 4/4 (a simple meter) and occasionally changes to 12/8 (a compound meter) and back and forth throughout.

    There was a spiritual presence to this song as was typical of so many of their songs. This one is one of my all-time favorite songs. It comes from my greatest year in music and it is my favorite by Kansas whom I've seen in concert about three or four times. Fun facts. The song was written by the lead guitarist who also played the piano. That awesome organ was the work of the lead singer. This genre of rock music is known as progressive rock or progrock for short. There were a number of bands from the seventies that pioneered it. Kansas is legendary in that field.

    I only rediscovered this song in the last few weeks. I vaguely recall it from my early teens back in the late 70's. It didn't really make a big impact on the charts down under. I guess it was overshadowed by the huge Abba craze, as well as the big 70's rock bands from the UK like Queen and ELO, at the time...having said all that, it is clearly a great prog rock song...love it.

    Many people who don’t know Kansas know at least one of their songs, and that’s Dust In The Wind. I recommend you listen to their live album Two For The Show. It includes many fabulous songs.

    Welcome aboard, youngsters! Another great band, from the 70's and 80's, such wonderful High School times. Kansas and Styx, were my brother Larry's favorite bands.
