Styx is a great rabbit hole to dive down! I think 4 guys from Chicago and 1 guy from Alabama! Where to begin! “Lady”, “Best of Times”, “Babe”, “The Grand Illusion”, “Crystal Ball”, “Long Nights (Blue Collar Man)”, “Show Me The Way”, “Rockin’ The Paradise”, “Too Much Time On My Hands”, “Lorelei”, “Renegade”, “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)” just to name a few!! Love what you ladies do and keep rockin!! 🤟🤟🤟
I was 11 when this song came out. So for 43 years I too have thought I heard whale sounds. Thanks girls for taking me back to when I first heard and immediately fell in love with this song.
Being in my early fifties, I recall this song when it came out in the mid Seventies. I listen to it and it takes me right back to that period with my friends and like it says, the dreams we had. Some of them have passed. Some have struggled and some have made good for themselves. Those lyrics REALLY hit home
Great song. It reminds me of Junior high school dances. I remember, we started out dancing slow and then sooner or later everyone began to rock out. Great memories. Keep up the good work and Rock on ladies rock on🤘🏻👍🏻🔥🎵😀
Styx is a great band. Check out Blue collar man, Too much time on my hands, Renegade, Miss America, Mr. roboto, Best of times, Babe, Lady, Rock'n the Paradise and more. A rabbit hole.
Welcome aboard, youngsters! Styx, is another great band from the 70's and 80's, my teenage years. Styx, has many great songs from some great albums. Styx, were blessed with two great lead singers.
Love your reactions, you two! And Mia, I love your transformation in just about a year and a half. You went from: "I'm really shy in front of the camera" To Singing freely in front of the camera. Lol! Rock on! Love ya, girls!
This is one of my favorite Styx songs. It goes through many changes and is so well constructed! I enjoyed your reaction (as I do all your reactions, but in particular, this one)! This song was a great choice for your introduction to Styx.
I saw Styx at the Iowa State Fair in August. They still got it! Tommy Shaw is in his early 70's and still sounds like he did, in his 20's. Phenomenal group. Please do more Styx! You won't regret
Great reaction! Styx is an amazing band. The song is so catchy, to see the two of you singing along is evidence of how addictive the chorus is! Loved it!
You girls are on a roll. "Come Sail Away" and "Carry On My Wayward Son" back to back. Both are great selections. Juliet, I'm sure the members of Styx would be very flattered that this song moved you so much. Some other great Styx songs include: "Lady" (their first hit) "Lorelei" "Rocking The Paradise" "Crystal Ball" "Suite Madame Blue" "Fooling Yourself" "Blue Collar Man" "Renegade" & others
@@danasfaith5738 You're very welcome girls. Keep those classic rock songs coming. You're both becoming such beautiful young girls right before our very eyes.
Please check out Renegade with Tommy Shaw singing. Both guitarists and the keyboardist take the lead singing on different songs. I grew up with Styx! Great band, lots of variety.
I have seen Styx LIVE 9 times and will keep going back as long as they tour (which has been for decades). They are even better LIVE. So much talent and energy for a bunch of old guys. This song never gets old. You should see the audience sing along LIVE. Check out some of their more recent stage performances. There is so much to explore.
This is progressive rock and it was huge in the late 70's. A lot of bands were doing this besides Styx, like Kansas, APP, Journey, ELO, ELP and others that don't immediately spring to mind. The sound of my youth.
You young ladies are joy to watch! Very insightful comment about the dolphins. The smiles on your faces demonstrated the joy you can feel from a well-written song!
Yeah that's always the problem when people request songs for those unfamiliar with the song. They often pick the shortened version, which in many cases destroys the whole vibe of the song.
I've heard this song hundreds of times, and it's still special.. Love the soulful beginning, mixing with the synth later on, and then the dynamic chorus.. lots of great guitar, synth, drumming action throughout... yes, a very special song indeed... It must really be special to hear for the first time.. I think you will enjoy for many years, moving forward... Thanks for the react.. G
Yes, I was blown away the first time I heard the song. It is indeed special. Maybe the only other songs from that era I would place in such rarified company might be Magic Man by Heart ❤️ and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Styx Grand Illusion was an awesome concept album. So glad to see someone truly get this song and enjoy it so much. The song Lady by Styx has a beautiful piano as well so I think you would like that one also. Space Intro + Fly Like An Eagle by Steve Miller has some pretty synthesizer sounds like this too.
You two have a rare opportunity, first time hearing these bands. I often wish I'd never heard Rush so I could hear them for the first time {again} and be awed again like with Styx, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath and so many others. You both have a lot more great music to get to. Rock On!
Thank you Timithie! Mia and I agree, we are very lucky to be able to hear these incredible songs for the first time and share our first-time reactions with you!
Man I’ve seen this guy’s so many times! They where a great Chicago band! They where huge in the 70s early 80s! The band is not the same anymore since they lost their original drummer and one of their original guitarist, and then they got rid of their main frontman! Dennis DeYoung! After that shenanigan the band never regained their popularity again! Great reaction young ladies!👌😎👍♥️🙏
YEE GIRLS 😍 absolutely great job... Okay sweet little future madam president. Play that piano LoL. Queen Joliet you got me emotional watching you get emotional. Great singing by the way
Another song by Styx to check out is "Suite Madam Blue". It's very similar to this song, starting out slow then kicking into high gear. For pure hard rock from Styx, try "Miss America".
Mia, the piano you loved so much is courtesy of Dennis DeYoung! If you enjoyed that you should check out "Babe" and "Lady"! They also have about a zillion other tracks to check out!!!
Really a great song. First time I heard it it just caught my attention. I may be crazy (I've heard that before) but a REALLY good band called Styx played at my high school in Dallas in 1970 or 1971, the year before the group put out their first album. As a lot of people at my high school had a LOT of money, this could have been true but I am trying to check it out.
YES! I love it. You're listening to songs I've heard a thousand times for the first time and I feel like I'm listening to them for the first time through you. Cheers 🍻🥂
First time I heard this was at a Farming Frontiers meeting. It was an annual John Deere show dealers hosted in the winter. They used this song in a short snowmobile film. It was simply epic to my young self. It still has that affect on. It is just a great piece of music.
I suggest “Crystal Ball” for your next Styx reaction. Mia, maybe you can learn the piano 🎹 part on this. Lovely whale image. And as always I love your singing along! Thanks a lot, sisters!
The song is really about longing to be in a better place then where you are now. Thus the sad, melancholic beauty of the beginning and then the powerful soaring emotion STYX is known for that really can and does make you want to cry. My favorite band by far and I'm thrilled to see the two of you react to STYX. You certainly chose the perfect song to start with. I also recommend "Renegade", "The Best of Times", "Lady", "Show Me The Way" or "Crystal Ball" for your next reaction.
Mine too The Grand Illusion Tour, which I think was 79.....Was up in the nose bleed seats in an enclosed arena.. I sure had the munchies after that concert!!!

This is such a great song by Styx and one of my favorite songs by them. Although I was never a huge fan of the band, they did have a unique sound and a few songs I do enjoy listening to.
