I love seeing fathers and daughters working together!
Awesome video having your daughter helping you out. She will definitely enjoy her room upon completion
A door under the desk into the center would give nice long space for storage. Maybe with a roller system for wood boxes or plastic tubs. My 2 cents. Looks good so far.
I love seeing dad's and anyone working together. Nice
Such a good dad, teaching his daughter how to do all these things, such a great video!
Watching your daughter swing the full size hammer reminds me of when I was young and nailing my Dad would always say "Do you want me to cut that handle down for you?" Lol
So glad to see your helper back with you. I remember when you first started your you tube channel and she was always out there with you with her tool belt on working just like today. Where's her tool belt anyway? Can't wait to see the finished room 😍
Great video. Been thinking about building my daughter a bed out of wood I may get some ideas from you thanks. Stay safe and God bless.
How nice! I’d really love to do such activities with my father. 🥺❤️ الحمدلله
Love it! She will always remember that ❤
Digging the awesome t-shirt! Teamwork makes the dream work.
Build the step to a board on the back of the step. Use a piano hinge so the step folds up and over for access under the deck.
GREAT VIDEO,LOVED IT TODD AND DAUGHTER!!GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY!!!🙏
Didnt get a chance of doing things like these with my dad. But im going to take in every moment doing things with my future son/daughter..
I love it and I love your team work I love it
Just a thought, could you put the plywood top on hinges at the back wall 2x4? Much larger access point if you treat it like Murphy bed style. Just take off mattress if you need to get in there and lift up the top. Just an idea if you're not that far along yet. Great build.
Make the stairs hinged to floor to fold out into the room to get that access. Or to fold up towards the wall when open then down to set on a frame closest to the framework already in place.
Floor. Put down that vinyl/rubber paint instead. The coating will be protective & take some of the cement floor chill that creeps up the wood out. And it comes in various colors now.
Just spitballin ideas.
That middle section could have a top opening.
A rope/chain pull of a couple storage boxes from either side of opening towards middle would utilize all the space.
Those gas shocks that lift RV beds might be useful. You could lift the entire platform surface with some of those if you wanted. I just installed a set in our camper. Seems like they were about $50.
I have seen a bed that is on some kind of lift, so it lifts up and exposes a whole closet, study desk area underneath, then closes when needed.
My thoughts exactly...
This reminded me of when my daughter wanted a playhouse at six years old she helped to make hers but get your daughter a bigger hammer but not too big
SSLFamilyIKEA. That pallet wood is practically pristine.
could you put long roll out drawers in the narrow slot and even under the desk just make them so they roll clear out you could use actual wheels on the back to support the weight
Hi, I am new to your channel because this video is exactly what I was looking for. I have a few questions which I hope you will answer for me. 1) did you have a plan for what you were going to build? 2) Do you have a list of materials you used? I really want to build myself a bed like this (with my dad), but I don’t know where to start and I can’t really find anything useful in Dutch! Thank you in advance for your reply! Have a nice day 😊
I'll be interested to see how many storage totes you end up putting under there. I' thinking the middle section could be nice with a access door too, considering it won't block access to any of the electrical outlets. God bless you all.
Love the stubby hammer!
How about an RV type bed lift area? Hydraulic arms with hinges attached to top to lift the bed area for easy access to storage. Arm strength obviously depend on bed weight. Plus I'm not sure how your topping this off...flush? Or is ply on top of framing? Those cross 2x4's make me scratch my head. Good luck. Looks like a fun project to do with your daughter. :) Go ARMY!
Just paint the floor and everything below. No need to do plywood or vinyl flooring. It will be hidden storage. And you could add power to the outside by using an extension cord to one of the outlets then mount a power strip or one of those 6 plug with usb extenders. Make sure to close up the power outlets with covers to avoid issues later.
is say before closing that in any more to extend the outlets out to the outer frame up into yjr frame work of the stairs, the more you close it in the harder going to be to turn them plugs into junction boxs to extend wires out, use metal cover plates with L16;s, and being a storage area you have to use BX cable, glade to see you nailing the frame work and only screwing the sections together so it can be taken a part down the road or changed, far to many you tube video them screwing everything, screws are bridal and brake unlike nails
Would running conduit through the frame be an option in the build? That would move the plugs out to an easier access point. Just the first thought I had when I saw the frame getting so close to covering the outlets.
I will be using some conduit to run some wires through the bed frame
Will you have ventilation under the whole framework? It's on concrete which has moisture. Need to control that somehow. Just wondering. Good job.
I will design this so that there is access to all areas via the trap door or access door so that should provide ventilation. If there is an issue I can always add small vents also
Looks Good cant wait !!
Did you have a master plan or just a rough idea of what you would end up with? Thats usually what I do and have to change on the fly, but is more fun that way. Keep up the good vids and be safe.
Nice jig
Excellent work! A ledger board on the back and side walls would have been easier to install, used way less lumber and consumed a ton less time. Also, removing the drywall before installation would have allowed you to attach directly to the framework of the home and you could have moved those outlets higher in the wall rather than covering them. Drywall is cheap and easy, rerouting electrical, not so much.
For the outlets couldn't you use the boxes as junction boxes and move the outlet to the side of the bed? This will be so nice! I see someone else mentioned the junction box idea.
I am planning to move the outlets to the side of the bed or upwards above the bed but you still have to have access to the junction box per code
@@SSLFamilyDad Well sure I should have known that. You are doing it just right!
I thought you cant use pressure treated indoors due to off gasing?
How tall is the platform?
Couldn't the stairs be on a hinge that can be latched when closed or swing open to the left for access, if needed? Kind of like a murphy bed concept but swinging to the left side if you are looking at it, instead of from the wall down. I am interested in what you are saying about a trap door. I don't know what you mean and am not visualizing it. Will keep tuned in.
It's comin together. What color has she decided on?
That is a good question......
@@SSLFamilyDad my daughter wants gray walls with one wall that's purple and gray herring bone pattern. I'm thinking, well that'll be a project...
why not just raise the outletts?
I'd be concerned about losing 3 outlet boxes? I'm sure you can use a junction box and run wire through the studs of the bed to the desk??
You need to install 2. 2 x 4s horizontal on top of the 2. 2x 4s you put on vertical. To support the plywood that the mattress will lay on. I hate to see you waste the center part. Put a secret hiding place in between the bed and storage?? Good luck.
Have you finished the ducting/water etc Reno?
not yet......
Put the stairs on a hedge and castors
👍
how tall is the platform
Where is the finished project
Have the steps lift up on a hinge for access rather Than a hatch on the top
Move the outlets up.
It’s pine wood?
That’s seems a bit overkill on the amount of wood you used! Lol! And defo would have used screws not nails, they will loosen over time and cause creaks! Nice video though 👍🏼
Not everything is 16" on center... depends on the build codes.
Don’t touch the outlets use a shirt ext cord she won’t be running huge machinery and when you remove the bed your outlets won’t look wonky and out of place. Rolling tubs under the bed would be much easier and cheaper than building all that. Just my view from projects I’ve don’t int the past. Hammer not heavy enough lol I got a heavier hammer so when I swing it actually drives a nail. Why didn’t you do the flooring first???
Time for some new socks. Treat yo self!
why a solid base and not slates also you will need lighting underneath for your daughter to get to her stuff I am gathering the storage areas are for her to store stuff and not you and believe me trying to find what you want in a black hole is no fun
Plug a night light in under there for lighting.
So.. you have screws???? Hahahaha.
Safety glasses or goggles?
I do have a pair for Kayla when she uses a power tool:) But I have my glasses which actually I don't think are "safety":(
OUCH!!! Wrong nail!
jesus thats overkill
I cringe everytime I see the saw come down. Your hand placement is terrifying.
Never seen a tiny hammer like that.
And how did your daughter get better than you at driving nails.
lol, I am not sure but honestly she did pretty good!
Screws work better then nails bud
Early reveal much? I like my knives sharpened and polished after the build.
He usually posts his content as he's working on it, semi vlog style, rather than saving it up for one big edited feature.
This is a "plan and build" that is where I build along with you guys and take your input along the way
This is a really bad design, for one the mattress has to breath or it will mold NO PLYWOOD. You would be surprised how much moisture the body throws off in a night. Another thing there is a lot of wasted space. SMH
Could you use screws for a job such as this? If so is there better reason to use nails?
I prefer screws in case I ever want to take it apart
@@SSLFamilyDad Thanks for the quick reply.
