  • In this video, I'm building a new bed frame for my toddler with some built in drawers for toy storage!
    Although I'm making this for my kid, this bed would be great for anyone who wants something simple and functional. This build is for a twin bed, but could easily be modified to any size. Let me know if you're interested in plans for this!

    Just what I needed to see! I own a RV and want to replace the sofa bed with a twin bed with storage. I really need that extra storage! This project seems perfect for my space! Thank you for posting this video!

    Was wondering why you didn't put drawers on both sides, then saw that it was placed against wall. Since you designed the top to come off, to recover that lost toy, I thought it might be a good idea to put the drawers on the back side also to use for some additional long term storage. Older kids for winter clothes, out of season sports items, or even Christmas decorations and such, but leave drawer pulls off. As to the center supports, my 4 year old granddaughter would require these for the S.H.I.T.S. bed jumping (she is not allowed to do, but insists is fun.) I love the simplicity of the design, and plan to build something like this. I will probably add a bookcase headboard to allow her to keep her books somewhere safe. As she grows I can add an outlet so she can charge her tablet and phone.

    My wife bought me that Worx work table a few years back as a gift. I had no idea that the clamps fit into work surface that way...I had been just clamping them vertically like you would do with a normal wooden top.

    This is close to the design I’ve been working on. Though I did decide to get fancy with my drawer joinery (quarter-quarter-quarter system, if you’re curious). How long did it take you?

    • @HouseholdHowTo
      @HouseholdHowTo  Год назад +1

      Nice! It took me a few weekends, however I was only able to work on it for an hour or two per day. It could probably be knocked out in 3 or 4 days with more dedicated time. Joys of having kids!

    After making this and having it for a few years, have there been any issues with leaving a 1/16" gap around the drawer face? Did it every swell or get difficult to operate?

    • @HouseholdHowTo
      @HouseholdHowTo  3 месяца назад

      One of the benefits of plywood is that it's more dimensionally stable than solid wood. I did end up selling it not too long ago during a move, but all the drawers were operating well at the time.

    The math is very easy. Here is the simple step-by-step approach…
    #1 IDENTIFY and name all the relevant variables …
    g = gap width
    d = divider piece width
    L = total Length
    #2 form the EQUATION that describes the physical situation …

    From left to right, we are constructing it like this….
    d + g + d + g + d + g + d = L

    Or we could have just jumped straight to this eqivalent equation…

    4d + 3g = L

    #3 Now we need to SOLVE for ‘g’ (the unknown variable)
    start with …
    4d + 3g = L

    subtract 4d from both sides, to get …
    3g = L - 4d
    divide both sides by 3 to get …
    g = (L - 4d) / 3
    This is our answer. We could have jumped straight to this, because it is just telling us the obvious, i.e. to “Subtract the total width of all the dividers from the total length of the unit so we are left with the total gap space; then divide that by three so we have three equal measurements.”

    • @davidbroadfoot1864
      @davidbroadfoot1864 5 месяцев назад

      You can also do it by lining up the pieces in a different way to the way that you did it and taking only one measurement: line up all the divider pieces at one end of the long piece and measure how much is left. Divide that by three.
