I really appreciate that! Thank you--that's exactly what I'm aiming for 😊 So glad you enjoy the videos and I truly appreciate you watching. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a very Merry Christmas!
I built one very similar to this almost 20 years ago for my son. It's still in his room and he sleeps there when he comes home. He'll have it forever and will be able to pass it down to his children
A friend of mine milled his own oak. We took a slab of it out of his barn where he had it drying and cut all of the trim pieces with it. Plywood was used mostly
I made a farmhouse style bed (queen) about 10 years ago and it turned out so well one of our daughters "stole" it. I wanted to put drawers in it, but alas my experience with drawers has often been a struggle. You make it look so simple and yes, I have watched your drawer video a while back and eventually I will try again using your guidance. As always, awesome creation. Thanks!
Kids are good at “stealing” the good stuff. I’ve done that to my parents many times 😅 that’s a testament to how awesome your build was! I hope you give drawers another go in a future build. You got this!
I love watching your videos. I also love the fact that you show your mistakes. I think it is important that everyone knows that mistakes are part of the process. You have inspired me to make many projects. Thank you for your great videos.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy the videos. Mistakes are definitely (a very important) part of the process--they're where you learn the most and have to problem solve. I truly appreciate you watching and I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a Merry Christmas!
Excellent job, it looks great. I built my own king size bed a long time ago with doors and drawers all around it. It was a fun project. Nothing gives you more satisfaction than creating something in your mind, then building it and it turns out great. Keep building.
Bob Ross was a wise man haha! This definitely was a happy accident. I’m glad it worked out! Thanks so much for watching and I hope you have a great weekend!
I have always wanted to build a bed frame with the built in drawers. That would nice in a smaller bed room. And just to let you know, jig saws, you are not the only one that struggles with them. It looks really good Ms. Shara
Anywhere to add a little storage…that’s usually a win! So glad you enjoyed the build and it’s good to know I’m not the only “jiggy” cutter haha. Have a great weekend and a very merry Christmas!
Thank you! If I don’t break them down simply, I wouldn’t be able to wrap my head around them 🤣 I’m glad you enjoy the projects! Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Shara, I built a single bed with drawers. The drawers I cut were about 760mm length and 400mm wide and a depth of 200mm. I used 3/4 inch plywood. What I found is the drawers are very heavy. Got 3/8 inch plywood, removed the 3/4" bottom, cut dado and installed the 3/8 plywood. What a difference in weight. Looking to reduce weight further by using 1/2 plywood. Also using the Kreg pocket hole. Regards.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked the wood and trim choices. I was pretty hesitant until I finished it and I was like, okay yeah, that worked out well haha. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a wonderful weekend and a merry Christmas!
Orange cats are the best ones! Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video and it gave you some ideas. Happy building and have a great weekend (and merry Christmas!) 😊
always killin' it Shara! you're the queen of hand-holding pocket hole joints while screwing them in and not having them walk....i don't know how you do that lol. i use clamps when screwing and they still walk on me a bit.
Thank you so much! Those little trim details really added some nice dimension. I’m glad that worked out so well! 🙌 I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a merry Christmas!
Thank you! They were fairly straight, but still a little jiggy 😂 No worries--perfection wasn't needed there ha! I appreciate you watching and hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you so much! I’m so excited you enjoyed this design and are eager for the matching pieces! I haven’t 100% nailed down how I want them to look yet, but I’m excited to make them so it’ll be soon!
I designed a queen size bed similar to what you have there. The problem I have is I have no room to build it in the garage. So it was put on hold indefinitely.
There is a store named Builder's Surplus where I live. They sell new doors and windows and od lots too. They buy discontinued moldings. Also carry the ame current ones. There is a huge supply of different wood species in most sizes. But sometimes it's a limited amount. I like the fir or douglas fir when they have it. I'm considering using 5/4 pine or poplar in the bed frame.
Awesome !!! Turned out just beautiful !!!.....But, what amazes me the most is.....watching you lift that 4x8x3/4 inch plywood board !!!!! How can you do that ? !!!!! 😮
Thank you so much! I was definitely unsure about the oak, but it turned out really nice! I'm glad I went with it. I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas as well!
I'm so jealous of the workspace - I can only do little kits in my (fully carpeted for some reason) apartment. Liked the tips on assembling the drawer slides!
This is a fantastic video. I have also built many beds but you still gave me several new ideas on how to do certain things. I don’t ‘love’ oak either but this bed turned out beautiful. Great work Shara!
Absolutely outstanding result!!! I've been putting off building a new bed but mine has gotten so uncomfortable that I think I need to do it as soon as possible. I just found your channel and I am definitely subscribing!
Shara, I'm currently sleeping on a bed I built (a long time ago!) but watching you're video makes me think maybe it's time for an upgrade. Yours turned out beautiful. Certainly a good size project but well worth the effort. Merry Christmas. Thanks for Sharing!
Shara, I think you should know I had a conversation with my Sister today and my Wife yesterday about your Bed and I suspect one of us may be building it soon, like at the beginning of the New Year. @@WoodshopDiaries
This design is very nice and the storage is a great idea! Bub made a great appearance too! Lol…. I always cut ‘jiggy’! Have a great weekend Shara and thanks for sharing such beautiful work. 🎅🏻
That turned out super nice Shara! Now Lucy can have her own bed with storage drawers for her toys or you could pull out a drawer, add a blanket to it and let Bubby use it for his bed. 🤣 I noticed you are dressed warmer so the weather must be cooling down a lot there. I'll have to send you some of our warm AZ sunshine. Happy holidays to you and your family!
That's a perfect idea! 😂 I'm sure Bubby and Lucy would love that set up haha! It's definitely getting chillier and drearier--the sure signs winter is coming. I hope you are enjoying that sunshine! Happy holidays to you and your family as well! 😊
Beautiful build, Shara! The finish looks much better in the bedroom. As you were applying the finish, it had a bit of a greenish tint. Merry Christmas! Hope Santa brings you everything on your list!
Thank you so much! I actually think the stain does kind of have a greenish tint. I was really concerned this bed would look red, so I found a stain with some green tints so it would tone down the red and make it more neutral. It did look much more green as it was being applied than it did once it soaked in and dried. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend and a Merry Christmas! 🎄
I enjoy ur building it looks so easy when i try building things mine dont turn out so well theres always something off lol i guess i need more practice hopefully one day i get to build as great as you because i do enjoy it
Well done! I also loved your, “happy little accident” with the footboard trim. What was the final cost for the bed? How many hours? Finally, I’m really impressed that you have resisted the urge for a domino.
Thank you! I didn’t keep track of the time. I work in the shop sporadically as I’m able, usually working on multiple projects at once, and filming always makes everything take ten times as long. So I don’t really know how long it took to build. Couple of days working a few hours a day-ish 😅🤷♀️ I also didn’t figure total cost but I’d estimate with the oak about $400 in lumber. If using pine, it would have been about 150-200 less. Also, it hasn’t been hard not to buy a domino-there’s never been an urge to resist ha! 🤣
Very nice build Shara! I just built a toy box with the same material. I am not a fan of red oak when it comes to working with the room. It's really pretty when it's done but it's hassle to cut
Hi! I absolutely love your channel. Thank you for sharing your work with us and teaching us. Would you be able to link the 8th inch spacer blocks you used to install your drawer fronts? Those look super handy

What a gorgeous and useful piece of fine furniture! Love the design (including the serendipitous trim details). Can't wait for the matching nightstands. Your design choices are a perfect balance between economy, ease of build, strength, and utility. (Hmm... sounds like an engineer? 😁)... However, I think that some of your loyal followers may have to get together to stage an intervention with you and your attitude towards routers (and maybe we'll throw in a session on door hatred as well 😂🤣😂). Last, in your Shopify segment, there's a brief glimpse of a doggy in a sock hat... I'd pay good money to see that recreated with Lucy on your site!!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thank you so much! I’m so excited to design the matching pieces. I haven’t really nailed down how I want them yet, but I’m ready to build them 😅 Try as you might to make me grow to love my router and doors, but I think you’ll have a hard time convincing me 🤣 I’m a little (a lot) stubborn ha! You’ve given me an idea to try with the hat…I’ll see if I can get Lou in board with it 😉😆 I truly appreciate you watching and following along and I hope you and yours have a very merry Christmas!
Hi, love how accessible you make your videos and builds! What are the black vertical panels on your wall that hold your tools? Looking for vertical storage like this myself
I've been looking for a twin size daybed for my attic room, but the sides are always too tall. This way I can make one to the exact height I need, thank you! I don't like the supports on each slat because it makes it hard for the robot vacuum to get under there. I hope you have included the center support option in your plans.
So happy you enjoyed the project! The plans include the build the way it’s shown in the video. However, you can certainly add the center support instead like I’ve shown by running 2x4s between the pieces of the headboard, across the footboard, then between the two.
"Hey sweetie, this lady's Video started w/ a diagram she made, let's go w/ this one vs the other 15 guys who eyeball it." Why are there so many people who hate to measure on RUclips telling people how to build, but are afraid to measure before they start. Thank you for some good ideas, and props on the many things you did well.
You have to best affordable/approachable beginner+ style videos on RUclips as far as I'm concerned. Really cool bed!

I just have to love your giant workbench.
Everybody builds these tiny 2-foot-wide benches that just aren't big enough to do anything with.

This is an amazing build! I actually really like the trim pieces in the panels, it looks like it was there by design!
Hi Shara, I built a single bed with drawers. The drawers I cut were about 760mm length and 400mm wide and a depth of 200mm. I used 3/4 inch plywood. What I found is the drawers are very heavy. Another good build Sara, gave me the idea of just building some storage under my existing bed.
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it! 🙌
This bed is beautiful, Shara. The oak is striking. I agree with you. The extra trim pieces add a nice little bit of pazazz. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked the wood and trim choices. I was pretty hesitant until I finished it and I was like, okay yeah, that worked out well haha. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a wonderful weekend and a merry Christmas!

This is great. Would also love to see a video on building a Murphy bed out of an existing cabinet.
