    Proud owner of a VP9L. Outstanding 9mm pistol, and in my top three as far as Polymer Pistols go.
    It’s certainly in my top 3 along with the 5” Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 and the Sig P320 XF with the 4.7 Barrel.

    The grip of the VP9 is not "much more modular" than that of the P30; while the parts are not interchangeable, they have the exact same placement options. Though it may be subjective, I prefer the P30 texture, which is a tad more aggressive than on the VP9.

    • @K-bob_45

      P30 grip does feel better. For me it's mostly the beavertail area being sloped vs straight back on the VP9.

      Nope, the gunshot is still much, much louder. It is amusing to note, however, that I sometimes shoot a rifle with a Surefire open-tine muzzle device on steel at about 300 yds, and it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the ring of the flash hider from the muted ring of the steel at that range.

    Recently got a VP9 Tactical, haven’t shot it yet. My other is a VP9 LE, and I have shot it many times. My big advice is not to use a lollipop hold, you will be shooting way low. Where the dots line up, that’s where the bullet goes in terms of elevation. Once I learned that, it shoots very well, and the trigger gets even better once you put a case of ammo thru it.

      I haven't really jumped on the pistol optics bandwagon myself yet, but I'm with you in agreeing that HK should at least give us the option on their hammer-fired line. I believe he has a video already on the Mk24 pistol. Exact same thing, except the lever is decocker only, instead of safety/deckock as with the v1. Oh, and a threaded barrel is standard on the Mk24, which doesn't really effect handling at all.

      @@ja4414 Yes, and I forgot about the magazines, which will make the grip and balance feel a bit different, but you can swap those around at will. As for the barrel, I can't notice any difference in the way it feels to shoot threaded vs. non-threaded, but that's just me; YMMV.

    • @doktorfaustus
      @doktorfaustus 3 года назад +1

      @@ja4414 Bought mine as a tactical, but later got the flush-fit barrel for carry. I typically carry with the 8-rd magazine in the pistol, but 10-rd "Elephant Foot" magazines as reloads. I've shot with both the threaded and flush barrel and never noticed much difference, but granted I usually take one or the other to the range and don't switch and shoot back-to-back. I can definitely agree the 10-rd magazines make the thing feel different, but I suppose I'm not recoil sensitive enough to care that much. It's a tack driver with either magazine or barrel in it; I shoot it about as fast but more accurately than my 9mm HKs for some reason, which is not supposed to make sense.

      Don’t discount HK’s 45 knowledge. They put in lots of research in designing the Mark 23, and learned a lot. The various USP45s were the best USPs, and their knowledge was combined with improved ergos to give us the HK45s. The o-ring barrels really work!

    • @doktorfaustus
      @doktorfaustus 3 года назад +1

      While it is popular to describe the VP9 as just a "striker-fired P30" there are significant internal differences. The P30 uses basically the same internal engineering as the USPc, along with the P2000 and HK45(c). For the P-series pistols (and the USP) the operating surfaces on the underside of the barrel interface with a caming slot which is part of the recoil guide rod assembly. The guide rod is itself fixed in position relative to the frame by the takedown pin (axis of the slide stop). This is in contrast with the VP9, which is built in a much more similar manner to Glocks in this regard, where there is a dedicated locking block affixed into the frame. Making the locking block part of the guide rod is a system, insofar as I know, unique to the hammer-fired HKs among current production pistols. Obviously the fire control mechanism is completely different between the P30 and VP9 as well.
      Other than external cosmetic similarities, they are very different pistols, which you can see easily if you field strip them next to each other.

    I wish HK kept the prices high and built less overall. They compromised their quality and reputation with this pistol. I still want one but I feel like I need to buy two in case something fails in the other one. It is so strange for HK. I would pay much more money a gun with USP build quality and striker fired like the VP9. Please do this HK. Price is not a concern. Random springs being out of spec installed from the factory, polymer guide rod. Though HK has been great rectifying small issues as the gun ages, these issues should never have left the factory but no high demand made the quality suffer. Glock can do it because they’ve had the infrastructure to do it for decades now.
