    Serious props to your cameraman. He does a great job of framing the shots, choosing what to zoom in on, and when. He makes you look good, and makes the guns look good. It's easy to forget that what happens in front of the camera is only 50% of what makes a good video. Well done to both of you.

    Thank you, sir! Great review! I was at an indoor firing range today and the RSO showed me her H&K VP9 with a 17 Round Clip. It looked very sweet. She asked if I wanted to shoot it, but I politely declined as I had to go. I told her I would do my homework on it. After watching this video and reading the reviews that I could find on this handgun, I'm going to be buying this gun, period! Thanks to this video. I also learned the difference between a hammer fire and striker fire pistol. Additionally, I also own a Sig Sauer. However, it is an older model P228 with a 13 Round Clip. Love the Sig though! When it comes to buying a handgun, it's all about the quality and workmanship for me instead of the cost. However, if i can buy it for less then that's like having my cake and eating it, too. Again, thanks for this video!!! 👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂💯💯💯

    Took the VP9 out to the range, and they had a P320 for rent. The VP9 shot circles around the sig in my hands. I was very excited to shoot the P320, and I was let down by it. Needed a light at the end, and the recoil impulse with 124 NATO was definitely noticeable. The P320 isn't that accurate. Maybe the twist rate? Maybe the lockup? not sure, but the VP9 clearly out performed the P320. I really wanted to love the P320, and I like Sig. But they need to rework this gun.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903 9 лет назад +1

      Ryan Tong Could be, but honestly my inputs felt right. I'm going to rent it again and see if it happens again. I'm going to put 100 rounds through a PPQ, my VP9 and the P320. See which of the 3 does better. I was disappointed that it didn't shoot as well as I expected.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903 9 лет назад +1

      Ryan Tong Yeah that's a good point. I do want to be 100% sure it wasn't just a bad range day though. I don't want to be wrong about it. It could also just be a bad sample. I love the VP9, there's no doubt about that. But I want to like the P320. The rentals are cheap for me, and I have the ammo. I think if it's bad this go around then I'll just leave it as it is, and move on with my life :) But I want to make sure I think. Want to make sure I'm giving it a fair shake.

    I have carried the VP9 since September, and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed by this gun. For me, the ergonomics on the VP9 beat any other gun I've handled, and the trigger is simply a work of art. Now...
    I have not had a chance to shoot the P320, but I will say the trigger on dry fire is also a work of art. No question, the top three striker fire triggers in my opinion are the VP9, P320 and PPQ. All are superb, and far superior to every other factory striker fire trigger offered. The ONLY issue I have with the P320 at present is the grip. It's a little fat for my smaller hands, but outside that, it certainly feels like standard Sig quality.
    That said, having put a couple thousand rounds through my VP9, I'm sticking with it. If you have not shot one, you owe it to yourself to do so. Nothing will beat Glock in the market for a long time to come, but let there be no doubt these two guns will certainly carve their own niche in this market. I got my VP9 with the LE package (night sights and three mags) for $699, and the standard gun runs $599. The P320 runs $525. Great guns!

    I've had both for several years now and the VP9SK I have is the most accurate handgun I own, probably due to the sights being easier to see with my old eyes. I quit shooting the P320 Carry for a while until I recently upgraded it with the Sig Pro Cut slide and AXG gripe module. The bright green front X ray night sights on the Pro Cut slide are much easier to see in the daylight so I can now shoot it almost as accurately as the VP9SK. A big advantage of the P320 is the ability to upgrade everything if you don't mind spending the extra money. The upgrades turn it into a completely different gun.

    My 1st Sig was a 229. I took a P250 in trade and loved it except the 3 mile long double action trigger. Couldn't wait until the P320 to come out & I've been carrying a STOCK P320 Compact every since.
    Both are fine pistols but I can't find 1 thing that I would change with the Sig straight out of the box.
    I started with the P320 Compact (15+1) & added a Full size conversion kit (17+1). Have been thinking about adding a Carry frame which ends up giving me 3 different versions for less than the cost of 2 pistols.

    I'm a new potential gun owner. Been window shopping, taking intro classes and firing a few rounds (100 total to date). My final four after looking at over a dozen (and researching them all) were the Glock17, S&W M&P9, the Sig p320 and the H&K VP9. The Sig and the H&K made my final two after firing today. I like both in how they feel and handle. What may swing me is the ambidextrious mag release on the H&K as my wife is a southpaw. Going back for another class this weekend, want to shoot both one more time and then decide.

    • @NeonVars
      @NeonVars 8 лет назад +1

      You have to note the HK vp9 has a European style paddle mag release. Many shooters including the most experienced are thrown off by this configuration when they first pick up an HK since they're mostly used to the american button press.
      If you buy a sig, the reloading learning curve would not be as significant as lets say the HK when you begin training on another platform (glock, M&P). Going from button press to another button press is easy. Going from paddle switch to button press and vice versa can be challenging. So take that into consideration when you're choosing between the p320 and VP9.

    • @RaginCajun77346
      @RaginCajun77346 8 лет назад

      Thanks for that info. I hadn't thought about retraining on a weapon down the line. I was thinking about the initial learning where it wouldn't be a big deal since it would be the "initial" learning curve for me anyway.

    • @NeonVars
      @NeonVars 8 лет назад

      +RaginCajun 77346 Which brings me to another point. Both systems have their pros and cons. The pros for having a button press is quick learning curve on other platforms since there's so many on the market with the same setup. The main con is how easy it is to activate, either when gripping the gun or simply laying it on some surfaces.
      I believe the biggest advantage the paddle mag release has over the button is how easy it is to locate and activate while still being in a secure area to make accidental ejections near impossible. I can also see new shooters with no experience in either setup being a lot more proficient with the paddle. The cons, it can break under high stress, unlike the button setup. And as I said before, can be challenging to switch between 80% of pistol's button press and the European paddle switch.
      Sorry for the long comment but I hope this helps.

      VΛRZ well these were my final two. Another training class today and then 100 rounds through each option. Liked both a lot. Solid trigger feel on both. On target was a slight edge to the H&K. Decided to go with the VP9 in the LE model as it just felt a bit better than the Sig and then the edge in accuracy; again very close. Would have been very happy with the Sig but really happy with my choice.

      My p320 allowed me to switch the mag release to the left side. That's why I bought it. Well, that and it's an awesome shooter.

    I own and have close to a thousand rounds on each of the VP9, P320 Carry and Glock 19. While they are all great shooters, I'm not a fan of the Sig night sights and I do get the finger pinch as well if I don't wear a band aid. I love to shoot these guns on the range but I carry either a G26 or G27. Great analysis, Mr. Hickok. I could not agree with you more.

    I got my VP9 a few months ago and I have to say that the only thing I don't absolutely love about it is the price ($700 out the door hurts, but it's worth it, to me). It's beautifully made, feels excellent in the hand, and shoots like a dream. Reliable and good-looking at the same time is a match made in heaven. The only thing I'm going to change on mine is putting some Kryptek pattern tan Cerakote in a few places.

    15 rounds is for reliability. I have some used magazines for P30L (same magazines as a VP9) and they must have more than 30000 rounds from previous owner and I shoot another 10000 with them without any single issue. And the springs are still original. So that´s why HK put 15 not 17 or 18 like others.

    • @hickok45
      @hickok45  9 лет назад +7

      MKabarCZ Could be. Of course, they could have gotten some advice from Glock as to how to make a reliable 17-rd magazine. Even for people who do not like Glocks, it's pretty impressive how they've come up with magazines that just work every time.

    I have a 320C in 9mm, and you are right to change calibers runs about $400. but if you want to stipple your grips, and mess it up, it's only $40 or so to get a new grip. I've considered getting the .357 SIG caliber change kit, but not sure I would gain too much.

    Picked up both the VP9, and the VP9SK today. Got a screaming deal, $424.99 each, plus Arkansas sales tax, which brout the total to just over $900, out the door. They both shoot great, and both are great compared to my Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm. Love the trigger response, and short trigger reset. I still prefer Hammer style firearms, like my Beretta Model 92, but I believe I will be carrying my H&K VP9SK, as my concealed carry.

    Hickok I traded my fullsize P320 for the compact/carry 15+1 this weekend. Put 150rds through it and function just fine. Main thing I noticed it don't feel as muzzle heavy and had less felt recoil muzzle flip. Probably due to the beefy built dual coil recoil spring setup. It's right in the G19 size you like.

    Just bought a vp9 over the 320. Everyone thinks because the army picked sig that it's a better pistol. That's not the truth. Being interchangeable is why it won. And it's cheaper than the beretta. If the gun breaks, you just take the inner workings and put it in another 30 dollar frame. I love sigs but spent the extra 100 on the hk. It's a better pistol

    Never shot the VP9 but I have a 9mm P320 carry model and man oh man is it an awesome shooter. The trigger is so good on the P320. When new it is a bit heavy but after a few hundred rounds the trigger on mine is very very nice. Shooting the P320 so much is making me shoot my Glocks worse!! Never had issues with my G19 and G43 until I started getting used to the awesome trigger on my P320. The only drawback is it is a little bigger than my G19 especially since I got the carry and not the compact but all that BS about bore axis is a joke. The P320 to me shoots softer than my G19 which has a much lower bore axis. I wish Sig could have found a way to lower the bore for size purposes but other than that Sig did a good job on the P320.

    I had both. I kept the VP9 for target shooting and traded the 320 Carry for the venerable Glock 19 as a carry pistol. The P320 was just way too big, fat, and heavy for a polymer pistol. May as well just buy a P229. Not to mention Sig parts are expensive and never available. Sig should come out with the exchange kits before the next decade begins (hopefully) for you Sig people.

    Hi Hickock45 :) You don't seem to be happy with the H&K mag release. I'm just wondering if you've tried releasing the mag with your trigger finger? I find that way more comfortable than the thumb (zero grip adjustment). However, I'm a n00b shooter, so I might be doing something wrong... Lemme know either way :) much appreciated. Cheers!
    P.S. I get the pinch issue too, wonder if the trigger ought to be a touch longer or shorter? hmm...

      +Tom Arjannikov That's how I release all paddle-style magazines. I have had 2 P99's, a PPQ, and the VP9 which use that kind of release. I find it much easier to release it that way and the PPQ seems as if it is designed to be released that way, without having to adjust the grip of your firing hand.
