Love the vid Sam, I’m a bit of a tart when it comes to touratech. It looks like I have crashed straight through the front window of touratech accessories shop😂😂
Hi Sam. Great vid. I know I'm late to the party but the bottom of the display mount has a bolt on the left side, then staying of the left you push a rod through that acts as a nut/axle thing, then you can remove the display
Great video. I have just sold my Honda Africa Twin and had the XT on it. Also have a Ktm Duke 890R and use the XT on both. Couldn't be bothered with the cradle, just take it off and pop it in my pocket. Got a new BMW R 1250 GS Triple Black coming down next month and the Zumo will be mounted on that too. I did read somewhere that you can set the timeout to zero as the XT has an internal power timer thingy so 0 should be fine.Hex ezcan will be fitted to the BMW too👍
Thank you! It's a great piece of kit isn't it. Would be nice to swap between bikes like you! Just need to get myself another bike haha. You can set the timeout to 0 seconds on Hex. I haven't checked the Zumo yet though. Enjoy your new bike!
I've just bought a Garmin zūmo XT, and, I agree, the mounting system doesn't inspire you with confidence! It works, but there's only one small clip holding the whole unit in, and if that is not attached properly, your lovely Garmin zūmo XT will go bouncing down the road! Have you thought about getting a couple of pin Torx security bolts for the sat-nav bar, you need a special pin-torx bit to fit them, which makes things a bit harder to steal?
The lockable Touratech case with the metal mounting bracket behind the TFT is wayyy better! The one from KTM wobbles around but the Touratech one is rock solid. Also makes it a bit harder to steal. I've covered up the bolt ends too just to make it less obvious there's bolts that can be undone
@@SamVBikes It certainly looks more robust than the KTM offering! I sold my adventure bike and went back to a sports bike, and I'm wondering whether the Touratech case might take up too much space. The only place I can fit one is on the handle bar, by the ignition. At the moment, my unit is attached using the supplied 'U' bolt with the ball joint clamp mount. But, it's very easy to take it off because of the convenient thumb knob Garmin supplied, meaning anyone could walk off with it? I swapped my one out for a bolt and nut, meaning it's now locked it in place, and you need a couple of spanners to remove it. I don't think Garmin really thought the mounting options through, very well. The unit is for a motorcycle, but they've provided a suction mount and power lead for the inside of a vehicle? Why not spend more on a secure mount for a motorcycle, with a better fixing system - one that can't be nicked! I've wired my unit up to a INNOVV Power Hub 2, which is an excellent little unit. It controls everything, LED spots, heated grips, a couple of USB outlets, and there's one spare plug. Everything switches on and off in 10 seconds, so it gives the same functionality as your bike. I'll was thinking about fitting a GPS Handlebar Mount, and then fit the Touratech case to that. It would probably be a neater solution, because even the 'U' bolt and the ball joint clamp mount takes up a bit of space. It would be more secure, meaning I don't have to keep removing the Garmin from the bike, or worry about it falling off! And, you can also bet that one day I'm going to forget to remove the thing. In the meantime, I'll stick a spare safety tether to it, because I don't really don't trust that Garmin mount. 👍

Agreed! It would be nice. I reckon in the next generation they will. BMW have just started doing it, so it will come. Shame Honda has had it for years haha
It seems really easy and solid. I Will mount it in a few days, thank you for the video! One question Sam, do you think the GPS block is safe enough? It seems really easy to open and stole the Garmin.
Do you have links to all the parts buddy? Looking on their website, I think I need to buy 3 separate parts…over £300!?!?!? Surely not?! My new Adventure S arrives next week.

Nice one Sam, that touratech mount is a well made bit of kit, a big improvement over the KTM offering.
Cheers mate! The KTM one works well if you're happy without the security but the Touratech mount works well for that extra weight!
@@SamVBikes security is a big issue with such expensive gadgets, I would be much happier with a Garmin under lock and key and it sits level too.

Wouldn’t it be nice if KTM just integrated Apple Car play into the TFT so we wouldn’t have to buy a bunch of additional equipment for navigation

Good job,thanks.
