    I am a fan of this system but I got a unit with some hardware problems. You find out about a company when there are problems. I'm genuinely pleased to report that my first problem was fixed quickly. My biggest problem was sending the unit back as I live in Brexitainia. I had to send it back a second time and the Czech company said they'd send me a new one as I really didn't trust the device anymore. I'm happy to say this company, both in Portugal and Czech Republic are decent and honourable. They're also pretty responsive when there is a problem so my takeaway is this. A good system from a decent company. I had a bit of a crappy unit and the backup was honest and honourable.

    For many years, I used a Ule ruggedized mobile just for navigation on motorcycles. It worked well with predownloaded maps, IP68. Connected to my motorcycle battery. But it was just a ruggedized mobile. Washelpfull, till it fell off from the RAM mount, and realize only when I stopped. This seems great product to have. I have picked up a Tomtom and have been using it ever since.

    Great intro, Robert, and I hope it gives Garmin a wake-up call. That being said, I also have My Route App, which is also up there with the latest developments. I will, however, carry on with my 'old fashion' XT because all I really need is a map and direction to follow. The rest with all the buttons could be too distracting from enjoying the ride and views. I think GARMIN is the simple and easy solution, and you know exactly what you got, or maybe surprised you don’t get more. Either way, for navigation on road and down in the big city’s, I have had great help in GARMIN. But i really need to take a closer look at this option for future adventures. Can’t you just switch to google maps to get directions? Really well made video that explained a lot of the questions i had about it. The controllers look great when you learn where everything is. For many years I have been using a Garmin 590LM, coupled with Garmin VirbXE cameras. Although one can only pair one camera at a time, I had the ability to control the camera from the GPS unit. This makes it much easier to poke a button on the screen to take an image or start a video. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and I "upgraded" to a Garmin XT2. I was extremely disappointed to learn that since Garmin discontinued their Virb camera line, with the exception of their backup cameras, deleted camera control from the XT series. As a part time RUclipsr, I relied on camera control to produce my videos.

    My question is... which screen is brighter during day light and direct sunlight? Garmin Zumo XT or the Caper Iter Pad?
    If they are at least the same, I will change my setup to the Caper Iter because Garmin sux. Planing a trip is a pain and most of the time it does not find the address I need, at least not in Portugal where I'm from.

    I really like the entusiasm and the work you put in to this. A great ambassador for the product. I have followed the development more or less since the start, and bought the lifetime access and controllers. And how much I really like to like it I am so far quite disappointed about the map it offers. Very lacking and not much help offroad. I always go back to locus where I can use topographical maps from lantmateriet in sweden and CNIG in Spain.
    I use the DMD/2 as a main screen on my mounted tablet. It is a nice main screen for bikes for sure, helpful to get a overview and easy access to the other applications. But for me the type of tablet and the maps I can use are more important. So I always start and navigate through the locus map, there is just so much better setup and user friendly.
    I know about the restrictions of the map use and that is why DMD uses the free maps. But if it could have an option to load your own offline maps it would be a whole package. Lets see in the future.
    Keep up the good work and ride safe.

    Hello Nomad Sweden. I've watched many of your videos on the Carpe Iter (CI) and DMD and would like your insight. I'm planning a cross-country trip across the U.S.A. and possibly down the Pan American on a DR650. It would be as much off road as possible. I've previously only used my smart phone and a TomTom Rider 550 for navigation, and both have worked well enough. But with this trip ahead of me, I was in between the Garmin Montana and the CI. The Garmin appears not to have POIs and city/highway navigation as a base map. It would be something I'd have to purchase. For the CI, it comes with Locus and you can really use any downloadable maps. What has been your experience with city and highway navigation without using your phone/sim data? I understand it is great with off road so I'm not worried about that. I'd like to use it offline or without data as much as possible, both in on and offroad. Thanks, Sean

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! DMD2 works very well offline. The main difference is that you don't get the super detailed directions like which lane to use etc. It shows where you need to go, that's all, but it's enough.
      Instead of the CI I would get the new DMD T-865x which is sold by Thork Racing. It's brighter, lighter and is made by the DMD2 team.

    • @seansterr7236
      @seansterr7236 5 месяцев назад

      @@NomadSweden Thanks for the response! I just watched your video where you compare the CI to the DMD tablet and phone. How would you compare the holder and mounting brackets from CI and DMD. The DMD doesn't look like it locks it in as much as the CI does, though all reviews say it is very sturdy. And when you look at included offline maps, the CI has Locus world maps and the DMD would have their world maps included? And with that DMD world maps, you can search for any address or POI? I've been playing around with Locus and can't seem to do basic searches for addresses. For example, I can find a street but cannot look for a specific house number. I would like to understand the full specs for each map interface before I pull the trigger on a purchase.

    • @seansterr7236
      @seansterr7236 5 месяцев назад

      Another question: I see you bought the DMD phone also for your Africa trip. Could you have taken your CI tablet and just hooked it up to your rented bikes battery or accesory plug? Or would mounting have made that too difficult since you have the special T7 mount on your personal bike? -Sean

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  4 месяца назад

      @@seansterr7236 yes I loaned the dmd phone to test on the tanzania trip because it was easy to install and could run on usb. The big tablet would have been a lot more to install and a soecific mount fir handlebar would be needed. The phone was perfect for rented bikes

    • @NomadSweden
      @NomadSweden  4 месяца назад

      @@seansterr7236 Choosing between CI and the DMD-devices you need only to look at the hardware. They are both android tablets and both can run DMD, Locus and any navigation app you want. When you have the tablet you can then choose which software you prefer.
      The DMD2 app works well offline but I am not sure about house numbers offline. You have lot's of POI's available in offline.
      I find the DMD T-865 more "refined", light and the new version is even brighter than the CI.
