Everything Wrong With The Amityville Horror (1979)

- Once upon a time, they made a third remake of The Amityville Horror. In anticipation of that, we wrote sins scripts for the first two. Then they delayed the new one for, like, years and we just sat on the scripts waiting. Then they dumped that new remake into theaters sneakily for a few days in the Fall of 2017, and we were like... "Sh*t, we can't just waste these scripts." And Christmas week came along and we all had plans and didn't want to write sins, so we dusted off the Amityville stuff! So... there you go.
Tomorrow: Literally another Amityville Horror sins video.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Pretty much the finest thing I’ve ever heard.

Cinema sins: makes horror movies watchable for scared people since 2012
Joris spanjer "sins". It's literally right there. And its people not poeple
saya dubre i am not from an English speaking country, so sorry
Joris spanjer you are so right! this is the only way I will watch horror movies!
+saya dubre you shouldn’t be so rude to people. You don’t where they’re from or if English was their first language. Don’t try to shame people who are doing their best.
Horror movies should have a blooper reel at the end for people that get scared.
"Is this your first house?"
"We just got married."
"That doesn't answer the question!" -- actually, in 1979 it does. It was rare for a couple to buy a house together unless they were married.
It was rare, not unheard of.
Damnit I had to erase the exact same comment.
1975 to be more specific
Once upon a time it was even illegal to live together unless you were married.
It wasn’t a rarity in the 70s. Young adults were teens in the 60s-free love, drugs, etc. co-habitations was pretty common in the 70s, I was there. My parents weren’t married and a large portion of my friends parents were unmarried. Some of ya’ll act like you think the 70s was still old fashioned, it wasn’t super conservative by the late 60s early 70s.
“Was she really in the rain long enough to get THAT prune-y?”

From the looks of it he didn't want to worry about a library card
Well this is...festive

Movie Sin #4 really can't be counted as a sin, since that actually happened in real life. The whole creepy mystery behind the murders was that no one woke up. That's something that has to stay intact in every iteration.
There's no fact that no one woke up, only the killer can verify that and his oldest sister was shot in the chest
When mentioning how the family in the beginning must've been heavy sleepers to sleep through those gunshots. It should be mentioned that the fact that they didn't wake up when the gun shot off and they were all found lying on their stomachs in their beds, (if you've seen the photos) is actually a real mystery as to what happened during the real life Amityville Horror
ArtisticStyleIcon Not only that none of the neighbors heard any of the gunshots and the autopsy revealed they were never drugged or moved by anyone else that sounds scary, creepy, and mysterious
with a marlin rifle at that...but the lone nut theory keeps getting used in every improbable crime that had to have multiple killers
There is nothing weird about it. The neighbours probably did hear the shots but didn't know what they were and disregarded them and promptly forgot. That's how t works in the real world.
cannedbollocks I can see one or two marlin rifle shots not waking them maybe but there were nine shots fired.
cannedbollocks Yeah the neighbours heard them but the family didn't? 😂😂😂
The opening is based on a true story where DeFeo did gun his family down in their sleep....so yes they must have been the heaviest sleepers in existence.
TGOTR is either that or all of them were on sleeping meds and the boy that shot his family just didn't take his.
TGOTR My bet is one or two did wake-up, but didn't leave their bed
@@Doctor_Odin nope no meds autopsy was done and all was found laying on their stomachs as well.
@@madelinebryant9851 Nope, autopsies were done. They had all been drugged with sedatives. Two of the siblings did wake up, but were unable to get away because of the sedatives. Defeo killed everyone, took a bath, cleaned up the scene, then staged it to look like they'd all still been in bed.
@@Doctor_Odin Defeo had drugged them all with sedatives.
I know I’m dating myself here, but as someone who was a kid during the late 1970s - those grocery bags were two weeks of groceries. Back then, grocery stores offered three different sizes of paper grocery bags (one that was big enough to hold a lot of groceries). The bags seen in the movie weren’t the right bags, but they were technically claiming they were. I know this might be an unimportant fact to some, but for those people who weren’t born then - I thought they might find it interesting. Here’s another fun fact: grocery stores didn’t start using plastic bags until the early to mid 1990s.
I used to work for a now defunct grocery store chain when I was a teenager in the the 1990s. I remember when the store first received plastic grocery bags, and how we were encouraged to offer these bags in place of paper bags because 1) They were cheaper for the company to produce and 2) The first public movement to ‘save the trees’ became a national headline. This was when the world took steps to preserve what was left of the rainforest. It took a long time to convince customers that plastic was better than paper, but it eventually happened. But once everyone adopted plastic, the environment faced another dilemma: the plastic bags the stores were told to use were not biodegradable. But once recycling became a national program, that issue disappeared.
Dating yourself? I thought that was illegal
You've had such an amazing and exciting life! Have you ever been to the dentist also? Could you tell us about that? I remember when plastic bags came out too! WOW! I also remember the late 70's. Remember the time before plastic 2L soda bottles? The glass ones that would break in the store parking lot? Soda tastes so much better now with polyvinyl chloride. Mmmm Yum!
Plastic bags aren't recyclable
SarahJae LuvesCupcakes The new plastic bags are recyclable. They’re made from recycled plastics like soda bottles, etc.
World of Retro Gameplay just cause they're made from recycled material doesn't mean they're recyclable. They're single use
The whole point of them NOT waking up is what makes the real story freaky af smh
pretty shitty job and if you were actually scared by this movie, you shouldnt be allowed to watch any type of moving picture at all
@@crownedroyal738 you’re a tweezer
@@crownedroyal738 Coming from a hardcore horror fan, this movie was pretty scary, and what makes it even scarier is the fact that it is based on a true story. That murder at the beginning of the movie really did happen so it is pretty freaky that the family didn't wake up to the gunshots.
To be fair, that only works if you know the real story. If you don't, it just seems unrealistic. Even if you do know the real story, Cinema Sins has always operated under the idea of movies being self contained. For example, if something is not explained in an adaptation on a book, and it is explained in the book, it's still considered unexplained for the purposes of sinning.
Yesterday, My mom was talking about how she saw this movie in theaters. Today, you release a CinemaSins on it. Now that's what I call creepy
Griffin Spencer Your mum is the cinema sins guy, it's the only explanation.
The universe exists only in your mind and the rest of us are just phantom images... Here I am a phantom image telling you that. But I only exist in your mind. BOO!
Why would I name you Dern Vader though

Fuck you guys IT was good.
YDK Marshall no orgy with the kids in the end *ding*
at 4:15 they missed a chance to make a "Shining" reference. Maybe something like "Kathy shouldn't be making stuff up around her crazed husband with an axe. If history has taught us anything, it's that families staying in haunted buildings while the husband wields an axe is never a good thing to people or to doors."
Unlikely, considering The Shining novel is from 1977, and the more popular movie came out one year after this one
He has made out of time references before. Not to mention that I am basing mine on the fact that this "review" is made long after Nicholson's version.
Too wordy
Torbjørn Mikkelsen no Steven King hated the shining movie he hated it so to him it wasn’t successful and the book is better
The Amityville Horror (1979). The Shining (1980).
I Don't know what he's so happy about? He didn't get to finish. Best line
They don't take Eddie Murphy's advice. **DING**
New Message Trying not to say you are everywhere but it's hard
You're literally on all the RUclips channels I watch. And that's the real literally.
But this was a bit different. Carol Ann wasn't in the television set.
He was talking about Poltergeist... but it was funny. "I would just tip the fuck out the door"... lol
"Well, Mr Murphy, didn't you try to save your daughter?"
"I did. I turned the channel, shit didn't work, I got the fuck out."
Still waiting for The Outsiders
Eh, I'm upset that they missed some key parts of the book, like at the end when he starts to write his story, there is a reason for it in the book, but they just left it out because they felt it wasn't important. Maybe it's just me, but I felt the ending would have been stronger if they put in why Pony Boy was writing the story.
Cheyenne Stevenson yeah that’s a good movie and a great book
Doesn't make it not a good movie.... LOTR was dope and it missed a shit ton same with Harry Potter
“The books do not matter” It wouldn’t be a Cinema Sins video if he sinned book-to-movie adaptation mistakes.
theallaroundnerd I’m pretty sure the first scene is pony boy writing for school. I agree it would have been good for them to go back to it but they did include part of it
“The windows in this house were built w/ razor blades in them” 💀💀💀💀💀
"Isn't God damning your house the whole problem?" 😂😂😂😂
Everything is wrong.
Ok
Bad day?
You just made my day and yesterday I was almost kidnapped
These movies are about people and families going insane. If you don't look at it as spirits being real but rather an escalating form of schizophrenia and hallucinations, it makes much more sense and more enjoyable. Some things that happen to the characters need to be interpreted figuratively rather than literally. People should buy my "Impact" a James Grider novel on Amazon so I can afford a used car. I interpreted that these movies are stories of escalating madness based on Stefan Molyneux's claim that magic in fiction is representative of madness. It makes sense why the power of the spirits escalates throughout the movie. The same way mental illness escalates.
What is the name of Moby's third album?
I feel so proud because I just watched "Its a Wonderful Life" and I got the George Bailey reference and now I feel special, thank u Cinema Sins
Lizzie Equestrian what reference I missed it??
Tessa R. The knob falls off the bannister railing. That kept happening to George, too.
The Lickable Wallpaper part had me crying at my desk.
I'm still waiting for this guy to make a movie because he obviously knows what a good movie is
comes around he wrote a book maybe he'll make a movie adapting that book .
True true very true
Being a critic is different than being a producer, so he'd probably not make the movie itself but just the script and plot or something. What I'm trying to say is that he's good at pointing out flaws and correcting them but that's about it. Good but not enough for everything.
It is easier to destroy than it is to create.
You don't need to be a gourmet chef to know when your dinner tastes like shit.
No Amityville For Old Men. Lmao!
would have liked but then you said lmao
*Because references*
Saw this comment just before the video started. Thought he made it because Josh Brolin’s dad was in it.
Comment sin used the same comment for both of the Amityville videos fail lol
Is it me, or does the beard make James Brolin look a hell of a lot like Christian Bale?
A young Kris Kristofferson.
I was about to comment the exact same thing.
+V Morrisey ~ lol, I thought about making that gag, but I'm not sure he would. Considering the year the movie came out, James Brolin was famous enough to not be a "discount". At most maybe a "Discount Christian Ba... HOLY SH*T they dragged poor James Brolin into this!"
What does that have to do with physical appearance?
"House is clearly possessed by the ghost of George Bailey"
I was not expecting that joke 😂
The real sin here was the incredibly unnecessary, unconnected number of squeals this film spawned over the decades. That and the fact it was based on a paperback book of lies the Lutz family perpetrated with writer Jay Hanson. The book itself sold an estamated 10 million copies.
That's probly one of the biggest reasons I've said it may nor be real and that he would never verbally speak about everything he would say stuff like it's for my kids toonor etc. But ull write a book and go on tv shows?
It spawned squeals?! Haha
A lot of people have a fascination with the paranormal. The Lutz family did manage to lure Ed and Lorraine Warren to the house to "investigate" the claimed haunting in an attempt to give their story credibility. The show "Ghost Adventures" also did an "investigation" there making another attempt to give credibility to the story the Lutz family told. Not sure anyone outside of "paranormal" circles actually believe any of the stories though since other families have lived in the house since the Lutz family, apparently without incident.... The Lutz family lawyer admitted that the stories were fabricated and Ron, who committed the murders in 1974, keeps changing his story in regards to what actually took place. Only the Lutz family and "paranormal investigators" are still maintaining that the stories are factual. The church refused any services because they failed to find any evidence of a demonic presence. The fact that Ed and Lorraine Warren were involved in the propagation of the story, pretty much proves it to be a hoax.

EWW a horror movie the day after Christmas... perfect 👌
Agreed as a good one too.

While left out of the movie, the Lutzs did live in the house over Christmas 1975, from December 18-January 14.
Yep
"This is a sound a cat would make if you played it through a Casio keyboard that was being strangled by an Atari 2600"
Kkkkkkkkkkkkk
69th like 😎
George luz did actually look like the defao father and son mix lmao
Just a few things:
The DeFeo's (the family that was murdered in the house) were all shot in bed and (aparently) never woke. There was no evidence of drugs in their system and none of the neighbors heard it either, something that has not been explained.
The "one month later" was their moving in day, not that they had been living their for a month.
Jodie (the invisible evil friend) was said to be a pig in the book and the Amityville story seems to have made popular the "not so imaginary 'friend'" trope.
George Lutz was not the same person as Ronald "Ronnie" DeFeo, aka "Butch" who shot and killed his family in the Amityville House November 13, 1974. In the book they are said to resemble each other though George was about five years older, thicker in build and had lighter hair and eyes, but they both wore similar beards and shaggy 70s hair. The movie exagerates their similarities but they were not the same man. George died back in 2006 and Ronnie is still (as of this point) in prison and he has been the whole time.
nicholas king I saw a documentary with one of the sons talking about George Lutz saying that he was glad that he was dead and that he was abusive to them
My ant went to the same school with that dude
so did my beetle.
In the "In Search Of" documentary with Leonard Nimoy, he says Jodie could appear as pretty much anything, and implies he/she/it often took the form of Missy Lutz's toys. Maybe Missy Lutz just liked pigs?
Hell, MY dad looked just like both of those guys with his black shaggy hair back in the 70's. That was kind of the hippie-ish wild look that was in style when you wore your plaid shirt and bell bottomed, super scrotum tight jeans.
Please do everything wrong with the Mist
I would love to see that one.
I even called and asked them to do that one, I think it's going to be awhile before we get that.
Mist is a German word for poop.
I would love that!
Brian Bell probably will be a hentai joke about the tentacles
If I've learned anything from horror movies its that you do your research before buying a house.
Or horror movies are a work of fiction.
They knew exactly what happened. Did you pay attention at all?! She said it to James Brolin in the beginning! She even dreamed about it. Shut up
A friend of mine knew the Lutzes, and pretty much concluded (like most people) that they concocted the story so as to market it and get out of the massive debt that they had gotten into. Turns out that I went to a party at a house just two doors down, and I was a bit dismayed when I saw the horror house. Gone were the creepy attic windows, and this neighborhood was nothing as depicted in the movie. This was a crowded suburban street, and the so called "lake" was a small canal behind the row of houses. A funny story about the horror house is that a group of gay guys wanted to buy it, move it to Fire Island, and set it up as a horror themed dance club! (It did not happen).
Ironically, the shotgun killings of the six family members was the only thing truthful in this movie.
Well it followed the book almost exactly, which is what it's based on. So for a movie adapted to a book this is actually really faithful especially when compared to other adaptions. And for one story they are on... what 17 movies plus a remake or something like that. dang.
Gary debatable
TheDinoSir pretty sure most of them eventually admitted to it being a hoax
Ner' Zhul Don’t think so
The Lutz' never fully said it was a hoax; they maintained to their deaths it was real. Though others involved have said it was a hoax. The wife, Kathy Lutz went on some show and said some stuff really happened and some didn't. But murders of the DeFeo family are totally real. Fun fact the Warrens (from the Conjuring series) were a real life couple who went to the Amityville house and even said it was not a hoax.
Sin #4 is something that has never been explained in the real life murders either.
You mean sin #5
brainflash1 yes it has. If you believe Ronnie DeFeo's claim that his sister helped him before he was forced to kill her in self defense
Ronnie DeFeo has changed his story so many times, it's very unlikely that the sister actually killed anyone.
The Spanish Inquisition thats why i said " if you believe his claim".
Yeah it is believed his father was an abusive man, and the reason his siblings did not move was because those who live in abusive homes tend to stay still and silent to avoid being targets as well. They were all found face down meaning they were most likely pretending to be asleep when he went in and killed them.
Rip Margot kidder
“Good news! Your death house struck oil!” XD
0:24 Cinemasins just sinned real life because the family really did sleep through the gunshots.
I wake up when I hear gunshots *outside* how the hell could they miss them *IN* the house? There had to be some type of silencer used. No way
Your Favorite Crazy Sadistic Lover How often do you hear gunshots outside? Where do you live, Chicago?
A rifle silencer barely reduces the noise the rifle makes. Contrary to films and video games, a silenced weapon is just better at not being heard from a great distance, not completely silent.
Whatever the case, it's clear that nobody knows why the people stayed where they were.
Either it was the "Deer in the headlights" reflex, or... Perhaps it was something else. Whatever the case, we can only theorize why.
I once slept through my sister knocking down a bookcase down next to me.
Two of them woke up in real life. Look it up.
PLEASE DO EVERYTHING WRONG WITH FINAL DESTINATION!

I'm rolling with this one. THE BEST EVER🤣😂
I know, me too.
The keyhole comment and the blue ray player freezing up, I was rolling 😆😆.
Dude you totally missed out. Right after your first Back to the Future joke it went to the "Save the Clock Tower" lady!
I noticed that too! I was just waiting for him to say something about the clock tower. Kinda disappointed that he missed that one!
You should do everything wrong with the Star Wars holiday special. I've got to see that sin count.
But who can argue the pure raw sexuality of Bea Arthur? Step aside Marilyn... Bea's here... We don't say she's hot, we say she's 'Bea Arthur Hot.' By the time you got to Princess Leia singing, the counter would be destroyed.
It would be one sin. "This. All of this."

Next idea Everything wrong with Monster House
I think he already did it.
long overdue
Andrew A He hasn't!
Monster House is a great film!
I thought they already did that, I could be wrong though.
My mom took me to see this with her when I was only 8 yrs old. I haven’t been the same since.
Also, the real estate lady was the "save the clock tower" lady in BTTF. Just sayin'.
Tenderfoot Prepper nothing more evil than real estate agents, I assure you...greedy, lying and two-faced.
@@231mac maybe you should check it , because you're the one that's wrong idiot lol
@John Lester interesting that Margot kidder played a devout Catholic in this movie in real life she was a devout ATHEIST..rip margot kidder..wherever you are

That glass harp is called a waterphone. It's an actual instrument mainly used in horror movies.
By the way, nuns do need to wear that getup all the time.
Just like the hijaab, those women think they're sinful sluts if they ever not have it on in public. Total religious brainwashing if you ask me. But beliefs are beliefs I guess.
I have two aunts who are nuns, they wear regular clothes around family, and most weekends when they aren't "working".
@@justinhackstadt6677 Uh, no...
I lost it at the "Is someone taking glass harp lessons in the living room?" notion. That was great!
Also, since this is a horror movie, it's more like the demons turned Father Delaney into Darth INSIDIOUS. Mwahhaha!
D.J. Rose hilarious
D.J. Rose I see what you did there.
I can't start laughing...
Never seen this movie still enjoyed the video
House is clearly possessed by the ghost of George Bailey.... I smiled hard haha

The scene with the glowing eyes looking in the window scared the shit out of me as a kid!
That real estate agent knew what was wrong with the house but, sold it to them anyway😄😄😄
Laura Prezzomolo They don't have to tell you by law, unless it DIRECTLY affects the house. Of course, real estate agents will lie if they think it'll pay and they can get away with it. If you ask them, they're supposed to be honest, but don't rely on that. Get it all in writing.
Laura Prezzomolo Think she was afraid to miss out on her commission regardless of what the house’s history was
Winds of March Journey/Perry tribute band didn’t she tell them though? The wife mentioned wishing all those people didn’t die there. Also, I think they have to tell you if it happened within the last three or five years
Winds of March Journey/Perry tribute band actually real estate agents r supposed to let u know of any death (especially violent death) on the property. If they don’t u can sue the real estate agent.
Laura Prezzomolo, really?! I can't imagine a real estate agent - or a used car salesman - ever doing such a thing! 😜
Sin #4: It's well-established that people can sleep through just about anything: gunshots, tornadoes, hurricanes, fires. I laughed at more of these than usual. Well-done!
Exactly i didn't see why there was a sin for it since it happened
I am an excellent example of someone who can sleep through anything.

Ive been subscribe to cinemasins for awhile now and I recently realized I haven’t seen a single cinemasins video in my sub box. Damn you RUclips
I've seen this movie lots of times and I have never noticed the eyeballs in the window. Now I have to get my DVD and check it out.
hi cinemasins, do you guys think you guys could do a sin on White Chicks?
But then they would have to actually watch that... I wouldn't wish that upon anyone. Waterboarding is preferable I'm sure. Watching that movie? Now that's torture. I also hate movies where the premise is dependent upon something that would never happen, no one would think they were actually white chicks, they look like black guys in white chick makeup - pretty gross.
They Don't do black movies

John Gooch that's why they would do it they don't work hard here

That’s what’s weird about the real life murders . They were all found , shot, face down in their beds . Except for the youngest girl who was found in the closet . Maybe they really were just deep sleeping
Clearly the Lutz’s account of things was either a heap of shit or grossly exaggerated or both. However, the fact that the entire family who occupied the home beforehand were all murdered without any of them waking up from the gunshots, with all their bodies unmoved and remaining in their respective beds, is frightfully eerie and just downright fucking bizarre...
