- For this review I hope in for some KDM love. Finally getting behind the wheel of the Genesis Coupe thanks to my friend Richard, I had a blast driving this on the lovely back roads of my area. At first I thought the FRS/BRZ/86 had perfect styling, but that was before I noticed this car. It has the look I like about the FRS, but a touch more interesting and aggressive while still being super clean and sleek. Let alone how it's more powerful as well! Great lines. I can't believe I like a Hyundai this much.

I still remember Saabkyles white 3.8 Genesis. Great car, I almost think its a more modern version of the 350Z. Affordable power compared with RDW nice design and great V6 sound.

Just bought a genesis coupe and I work for Ford, driving mustangs all day and I think for a v6 the genesis is a great buy, maybe won't keep up with a gt but hey that's what turbos are for, make up for displacement
Did you end up keeping the car? What are the pros and cons in your experience?
Hyundai shoulda put a turbo from the factory on the BK1& BK2 3.8 or put the 5.0 sedan motor in it
I remember watching this before I bought my second gen coupe, when i got my 3.8 track stock, and now I have an intake, custom catback exhaust, stage 2 competition clutch & flywheel and a tune.. really changes the car and I love it

The car looks good on the outside, especially with mods. Never been a fan of the brand but if they really want this car to appeal, they should have separated the coupe from the sedan entirely. I true performance car shouldn't share a chassis with a sedan (i.e. Corvette, Mustang, Viper). Just my two cents.

I hate when people try to compare power figures with Genesis Coupes, because this car wasn't built for speed, not even close. Like David said, it's an all-around balanced car. Plus, this is a first generation Genesis, and Hyundai has vastly improved the second generation's overall quality, including horsepower figures. Is this thing going to beat a Mustang in a straight line? Probably not, because it was not designed for that purpose, so stop hating on it just because it's a car that wasn't solely designed for power power power. I love my '13 Genesis Coupe 2.0T, I've had it for almost two years now, and it's a great daily, but also has the subtle adrenaline boost if I wanted it. Just need to add a few mods, and the car will completely suit my personal needs. But my point is though, don't hate on the car because it isn't the fastest; if you want power figures, sure the Mustang will be the best choice, but for overall satisfaction, the Genesis Coupe is the best bang for your buck.

Even though I'm more of a V8 guy now i have a soft spot for Hyundai, used to have an 04 Tiburon GT V6, cool little car sounded sweet with ssa headers and y pipe and greddy catback

I've always had a soft spot for this car but the Hyundai brand never appealed to me. I'm wondering how tough the stock motor is for a bit of boost. A gt35r on that car with low boost would surely be fun.
I have seen a few videos of getting pretty good numbers with the stock motor.
Check turbokits (dot) com. They have a kit running on 6 psi that makes about 400whp and is very reliable. I will say though on this car (I'm the owner), the AEM CAI, Ark Grip V2 cat back exhaust and the SFR custom tune really elevates this car to 1000 smiles per gallon. This state in tune makes it a mid 13 sec car on street tires, low 13 with a sub 2 sec launch on street legal drags. Anyhow, I love this car!

Richard Boettcher Jr. If I wasn't so upset with mine at the moment. I would do much more to it than what its at in its current state. I have had to many issues with the car though, which aren't technically the cars fault. Had a total nightmare happen when a drunk lady rear ended me at a red light several months ago. And now it just doesn't drive right any more. At least, thats how I feel about it.
Garrett Martin Thanks man! Much appreciated and yes 300whp is plenty fun for the streets. David didn't mention it but it actually returns great gas mileage on the highway (30mpg) and decent city. Dive it like you stole it and well, it's thirsty. lol.

Hey David... awesome choice by Richard on the Ark Performance Exhaust! No I don't work for them, but I have the same exhaust on my 11 STI and it is great! Quiet on road trips, but gets peoples attention when you want it too!

Some kid totally ruined the look of his Genesis Coupe at my school. He painted black racing stripes on it, as well as painting the trunk black. He has some off brand bbs chrome wheels that are way to small probably 15", smaller than stock wheels. The car is a brighter silver color.

+Tom Chesterflats Yes the motors, transmissions, etc. But I was talking about the look of the car. The taillights are looking better on the 2013+, but like I said, when you put a 2010 and a 2013 together, the 2013 looks more upmarket. My friends with their 2010-2012 doesn't get much attention and people often think it's a Tiburon. But with a 2013+, I bought it this summer and about 10 people stopped me in parking lots to ask what kind of car was that, two different guys thought it was a Porsche and it's funny when you see people looking at your car, then they do a step back and remove their sunglasses because they can't beleive it's a Hyundai badge ahah. Now I got the Genesis badge and people are even more cunfused. On my trip to Toronto, I went to the gas station and a little kid stopped at my car, his dad said keep going to school if you want to afford this kind of car...his Honda Pilot cost about 10k more lol. Anyway, the look of a car is subjective, but it's very funny to see how people thinks it costs a lot of money.
+Genkoup people do ask me all the time what kind of car mine is, it's a 2011 2.0t, I think Hyundai did great making the Genesis coupe

This car is just soo...commuter racecar, its the RWD civic Si but with outstanding luxury and style. Good for Hyundai, and finally some KDM, keep em coming David.
my ex gf has a Genesis coupe. not sure which model it was, but that thing was fast as hell!
I think the Tiburons were dope cars. they had style and didn't require a body kit! they didn't even need to be lowered. throw some deep dish 17" rims on them and they were nice. the Genesis is the same way, very stylish, I like it.
I just started working for hyundai about 2 months ago, and they have gotten their act together in the last few years. I've seen more than a few modified gen coupes come through the dealer, and the brand new gen sedan is fantastic. And the Equus has a full foot rest in the back seats. their definitely becoming a brand to keep an eye on
I had a V6 track edition liked the car really liked driving it in the corners the suspension made for a very fun ride but I had a GT mustang also so I traded the Genesis for a F150
That's it. Tomorrow I'm scheduling a time to go look at that 2011 coupe track edition
Best review on here. I have a 2010 Track same color and 3.8L (i replaced the "flashy silver with the 2011" plastics!

I own a 2010 2.T premium auto with the paddle shifters cause I needed the Nav. for business and it is the same color as this. I have a stage one tune and basically it is stock other than that.
I drive it like I stole it every day and have that same smile on my face 8 years later like a 13 year old with a go cart.
Ilove the original front and rims too. Couldn't find anything I could add to make it better than how this looks already. "The Art of Speed" literally

Nice ride! My ride is very similar. He mentioned that you put 1.5 in performance lowering springs but i didn't catch the brand. Eibach Pro Kit would be my guess. Also it appears you have the stock 19 in OEM rims. Did you use spacers? If so, what size?

Always wanted to own a Genesis but I've been waiting for specific improvements to be implemented until I get one like the interior yeah they stepped it up in the 2013 refresh but still needs fine tuning oh and let's not forget the exterior with those front ends I like 2013s alot better than the 2011 any day of the week but it's still ugly and needs absolute attention in the next iteration IMO a biggest thing that needs attention is the transmission and focus on how the car puts down power. The manual tranny isn't the worst but it needs attention too clunky and in the latest gen sometimes if you push it the shift hate will randomly lock you out for a brief moment when you shift 3-4 once these issues are fixed I will be glad to own one great review as always bro love your vids keep up the great work
Been looking into getting a 2011 one for the pure fact that the car looks so much better and... the 13s and up are out of my price range. I cant wait to get it... *finger's crossed* The one I have my eye on is still going to be there when I have the money.

this car reminds me of a the supra body lines. If you read this you should start looking for single turbo supras to review !! love your reviews! it would be a good way to get some honest views aswell.
I'm thinking of getting one of these after I get a promotion. Any ideas which is better with mpg and for just daily driving? How's the repair bills? Just questions that would be nice to know. Great video!

They are a steal. Not the most comfortable for a daily driver but the smiles per gallon outweighs that.
Bought a 3.8 2011 2 years ago, still going strong and i beat the shit out of it lol, i really love this car so far. I would not pay the price for a new one, but a used one? fuck yeah, 300hp for less than 10k$ im good with that.

Haters gonna hate! I break necks multiple times everyday. I have a 2013 2.0T and the second generation of the Genesis Coupe definitely is more refined and WAY more bang for buck compared to the first generation in this video.
I drove a '14 Genesis 2.0T manual...and I was very unimpressed. The turbo-4 had no guts at all, and I absolutely hated the transmission. I would like to try another someday though, this specific Genesis seems really sweet.
Also, I'm really not a fan of how the Genesis usually looks, but the subtle changes this guy made to the car makes it a real looker. The modest drop, quad exhaust and whatever else he did really makes it stand out.
The 3.8 really is the way to go. It makes a great noise, and it makes plenty of power to have fun with.

I'm not a fan of KDM at all but I have to admit Hyundai did a good job with the Gen. I've got two friends with them and I really like them, especially the 3.8
Exhaust note on the Genesis is very similar to Infinity G35/G37. Driven all of them.
you should do a 2013 4 cylinder genesis, i have one and id love to hear your thoughts on it.

they make a turbo kit that helps these things make 500-600 hp with only 6 psi. That gives it a power to weight ratio of a hellcat, but more surprisingly, an an Audi V10.
